Exo Terra 30cm Cube Mini Paludarium Build

Using the 30cm cube exo terra from my last video I decided to make a beautiful mini paludarium in it. The result was absolutely stunning in my opinion and is my favourite tank so far. I plan on adding perhaps a pair or trio of cherry shrimp into the water section although I'm probably going to have to raise the water level a bit more. It took a lot of time and effort but I had great fun making this paludarium so I hope you enjoy watching this video!
Also sorry for taking a such a long time to upload but it took quite a while to film and edit. I'll try to upload more consistently next time :)

Thankyou so much for this video! It shows the steps u took very clearly and easy to understand. I have the same exo terra and im in the early stages of creating my palidarium. This video gave me some great ideas. Keep up the great work and thanks again!

I liked it. I didnt think I was going to but I actually reeeeally ended up liking it. You did a few things different than me but that certainly doesn't mean it was wrong. I very much liked the waterfall...loved the root idea. Overall a big 👍

This tutorial is better than 90% of the other terrarium builds out there. I've watched most build tutorials on RU-vid and you do a better job than almost everyone else. Seriously, you are on par with Troy goldburg, even a step up from Serpa. Good job. Personally I think the plants are a bit too big for this build, but that's a matter of your taste. Thanks for sharing the process!

Thank you! This is currently the only thing I set up with plants so far (excluding aquariums) that's been growing well, all the plants in the other vivariums have died lol

Awesome build! This might seem like a silly question but how does the water pump work for the waterfall, it seems you put expanding foam all over the long tube right down to the bottom, so I don't see how its pumping the water?

The foam only went over the front of the tube and the sides are left open along with the rest of the eggcrate base so there is constantly a layer of water all around the bottom of the tank

Thanks! I think it would be a little bit too small as the minimum tank size for a vampire crab is around 10 gallons I believe?

For the expanding foam I used touch and foam landscaping foam while for the pump I just used a random pump I found on amazon

what kinds of animal can live in here ? or is this just a plant build ? i have this exact exoterra i want to make into a paludarium but i don’t know if i can keep anything in there so i can focus on a theme for them or just make it into a plant only. i love plants so that’s not a problem either. i also want to put live plants in the water portion

For an tree frog to live in an enclosure like this how often would you have to change the water? Since I’d assume they’d use the water bit for bathing ect? Or would you have a separate dish in there anyway that would be changed daily? Or would you stay away from having a set up like this? But I do want a waterfall though! Be glad of any advice you could give me! Thank you!!

I'm not too sure to be honest as I don't have any experience with tree frogs or using a waterfall with a frog. The enclsoure I used here is too small for any tree frogs but you could just scale it up I suppose. I would think that a waterfall may not be the best for a tree frog enclsoure as frogs absorb stuff through their skin so bacteria that may grow in the pump if a dead cricket or something gets in there would be quite dangerous. I have seen people successfully keep frogs in paludariums with waterfalls though so I'm sure that it is possible. I would ask around on reptile forums, reddit or the Amino app on how to add a waterfall in a tree frog enclosure as they probably know more about this than I

The water area is very small so I'm not too sure. Maybe I'll add a few cherry shrimp babies and see how they do

I didn't see the point in testing the pump saying you were worried about it not working seeing you built it to be removed anyway. Great build though.

That is true but at first I wasn't sure how to make the pump removable then later realised I could make it removable so it ended up not being a problem. Thanks for watching the video!

Maybe poison dart frogs? Or tree frog? Idk I don’t have a terrarium yet cause my parents think it too expensive :C

@@marcoplayzz6728 thanks for the suggestions! If I get anything then maybe I'll use this as temporary housing for them when they're little. Terrariums are a little expensive to make although it will be much cheaper if you buy used a used tank, spare soil, plants etc

There is as little "nature" in this thing as in a garbage dump -.- I always thought an aquarium / paludarium / or terrarium should contain as much nature as possible.

Perhaps it isn't completly natural, and I do agree tanks with almost pure nature are absolutely beautiful (took quick a look at some of your videos and I love your aquariums btw!) but I'm quite happy with my little artificial background paludarium sitting in the corner of a spare room for the moment. The plants such as the baby tears and java moss have completely taken over and covered all the foam and mesh now which is nice though. Maybe one day I'll try making a no artificial (other then the tank itself of course) paludarium. If I do I'll make a video of it 😀

@@greensapling342 maybe that was a bit too harsh. But there must be another possibility than all this chemistry. Of course that looks nice for people, but whether the plants or the animals in particular do not damage the outgassing of the substances over time? I'm just looking for possibilities because I would also like to have a paludarium (but only with plants on top without animals) and small prawns come in at the bottom, but I want to use as few artificial substances as possible

@@feldartillerie1620 I don't think it was too harsh so don't worry about it :) I agree there are other ways to go about making paludariums without the use of expanding foam, egg crate, etc. and I have found a few really nice looking ones on Instagram which seem to do this. I would love to try making a similar paludarium to those. A natural, planted paludarium with small prawns sound lovely! What species do you have in mind if you end up putting your plan into action?

i dont know if this is a good idea this PU foam is toxic for humans while working with it or breathing it in and in contact with water the chemicals will release into the water over time. Dont think this is a good idea for animals which are sensitive.
