We had no idea what to expect heading into this movie and man did it deliver! I could not have guessed anything that happened We do not own the rights to this movie, this is simply a reactionary video.
After writing The Exorcist, William Peter Blatty wrote a sequel called Legion. The Exorcist 3 is the film based on that book, so this is the natural sequel to The Exorcist movie!
The locust swarm was actually the part of prequels later made and the legion is actually exorcist 2 in the dominion the locust swarm was actually seen in the dominion is the perfect true prequel of the original flim exorcist 1973 and the origin story of the demon pazuzu and how pazuzu escaped Africa and backstory of father lankester merrin.
Actually this isn’t a sequel to The Exorcist movie it’s a sequel to the book of the Exorcist. Blatty didn’t want Jason Miller to play Karrass because he wanted it to be separate from the movie
@allegedly "Actually, The Ninth Configuration (a masterpiece) is the true sequel to the first" I just got done watching Ninth Configuration and remembered this quote I read by you yesterday. I can understand that it could be taken like Argento's animal trilogy, in that they aren't really a trilogy, nor sequels, but they have animals in the title. But Ninth Configuration is not a true sequel to The Exorcist. It's along the same lines of the philosophy as the third, but has no actual horror element within it. I formed a question as the movie ended I wanted to press towards you: How is Ninth Configuration a true sequel to The Exorcist? You've mentioned the underlying ideas as the reasoning, but that isn't truly what a sequel is. They are vastly different movies, both The Exorcist, the book, and Exorcist 3, Legion being the book. Twinkle Twinkle "Killer" Cain, although I haven't read it, is a less fantastical look at those ides set up in the former and latter movies. I do agree, however, that Ninth Configuration is pretty much a masterpiece. And I was wondering WTF is going on in this movie until the end. I think Blatty is a great story teller, and his knack for comedy is genius!
The Gemini's raving monologue is one of the best in all of film history. And he's delivering it to General Patton, himself, George C. Scott. This has to be Brad Dourif's greatest performance of his career. Oh, and speaking of movies that deserve more attention, you need to check out Jacob's Ladder (1990) directed by Adrian Lyne, starring Tim Robbins and Elizabeth Pena.
When ''Kinderman'' is talking to ''patient X'', he sees the whole time ''Father Karras'', but we as the audience are actually seeing ''The Gemini Killer''.
Brad Dourif is indeed a phenomenal actor and a beloved genre actor. He's a favorite at scifi and horror conventions. And yes, he was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He was also Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings, the Exterminator in Night Shift, Deputy Clinton in Mississippi Burning, the Doctor in Deadwood, and he also voiced Chucky in the 80s Chucky slashers.
What works for Brad is that he is truly an incarnation of the accuser. Believe me, I have first hand knowledge, having known his contemporaries from Huntington, WV. Avoid him at all costs. I ran into him at a restaurant in LA, and wound up in a serious car accident.
@@plus_sign True, but only a few select people know his true nature. As I said above, he is in league with the Accuser and possibly, the Antichrist... The Vatican has been following him (Dourif) for years. He's protected by immensely powerful people and entities. 2029!!
See my comments below. Indeed, a phenomenal actor, but a threat to the souls of humanity. He's manifested his true black hearted nature and is set on the Black Path of the Son of Morning. The Living God will endure forever and soothe the agonies of those whom He has called. The time is nigh, as those whose eyes are clear of illusions can plainly see.
Oscar’s a BS They base it on the movie not just the performer and nowadays it’s all political. These days winning an Oscar is like running for an election, you have to bribe, lobby and ass kiss😂 It’s not meritocratic anymore, if it was Brad would have at least been nominated but I’ll wager exorcist 3 didn’t even get sent out to the judges as an option. Joe Pesci won for Goodfellas that year, no saying he didn’t deserve it but compared to Dourifs Gemini killer……… Also love Pesci for giving the best Oscar speech of all time. *Collects award* “Thank you” *then walks off*
The “padding the job” line was Kinderman getting a lazy coroner to do the thorough job he’s supposed to do in a witty way. It helps justify why he’s so angry throughout the film if EVERYONE around him is trying to make his job difficult.
That scene with the jump scare and the nurse... that has to be one of the most well-crafted scare scenes ever. Just everything about it was perfect. You can know about it and still jump lol.
The buildup is what makes the scene. You KNOW something is about to happen, but you don't quite know when. So the suspense grows. Finally when the music blares right at the scene, it hits you really hard and fast. That's how you make a proper jump scare.
The zoom is the best touch. The camera does what your eyes would do? Quickly zoom in on the action as a reflex. Our eyes are drawn to moving objects and especially when we’re on edge. The scene did with zoom lens and brass note exactly what your eyes would do In real life when we’re startled. Remind you until the studio mandate ending there was no violence in this movie only people describing it. Also Jeffrey dahmer used to watch this to get pumped up for a murder, he even made his victims watch it Sometimes. I feel bad for artists who just wanna entertain but then some lunatic goes looney and now we debate their responsibilities over the actions of people they never met. If dahmer didn’t show his victims exorcist 3, it would have been something else but th end result would be the same.
He didn't see him change.... when he changed he asked the Detective what he saw, and he said he saw Damian... the Gemini Killer then said "If you looked with the eyes of faith, you'd see me." Meaning it was the detective's lack of faith that prevented him from seeing the change
Yeah, Gemini replacing Father Karras in the straightjacket was Blatty's war of showing that Gemini was in complete control of Damien's body when he's giving his monologue -- it's why he changes back to Damien at the end, kinda a metaphysical way of hanging up the phone
When Kinderman said he was padding the job, he was being sarcastic, he was actually being very thorough in the investigation. He was being a bit short towards the forensics guy that asked why he wanted to look for prints in both confessional booths, which is the same guy he was berating for being immoral and racist earlier in the film.
The bit with the nurse is probably one of the greatest jumpscares in the history of film. It builds up for SO long, has a false payoff, builds again...and BAM! And you can't even make out who it is! Just that they're holding a massive pair of shears.
16:50 yeah it's Brad Dourif. He is one of the most underrated actors *ever* in my books. He steals every film he's in. As someone already commented you definitely should delve into the Child's Play / Chucky films, it's my personal favorite horror franchise. He shines with his voice acting of Chucky on those movies. I'm sure you'd have fun with them.
I definitely want to do reaction videos to child's play because Chucky scared the shit out of me as a kid. I avoided him like the plague. I think the tiny villains scared me more as a kid because they could fit and hide anywhere and that was terrifying 🤣
That hospital corridor scene should be a required course in film school on how to build tension with a master shot. No fancy camera moves. just the simple blocking and choreographing of the characters. Exorcist: Legion is not a perfect movie but I enjoy how it progresses the detective and the priest's budding friendship at the end of The Exorcist. The late 1970s re-release had it end without that banter (just a view of the steps accompanied with Tubular Bells playing). I'm so glad the existing cut furthered that relationship to carry over to Exorcist III. That confessional scene was also effective. The dialogue between Scott and Flanders is very much like the director's (Blatty's) humor in his movie The Ninth Configuration. And that movie is highly recommended. For the majority of the film you'll be wondering "what the heck are we watching" until it all comes together.
The bit that give me chills is when he is talking to the old lady who talks to her radio, you then remember that in the first movie when karras's mother was committed to hospital his uncle says she was found talking to her radio!
After having lighting reflexes like that and saving her granddaughter from decapitation I think the mother-in-law earned the right to turn the tub into an aquarium every time she visits.
It's a very underrated film and the performances my the main characters are very good. Brad Dourif was brilliant as The Gemini Killer and should of won and award imo. Laughed when your wine wasn't topped up enough and when poor Emma froze when the nurse was about to be killed Great vid as always. Can't wait for the Midsommar watch
Yes! I completely agree how underrated this movie is for sure! Brad Dourif stole the show! I'm going to try and do Midsommer sooner rather than later because I am very intrigued about that one and I don't think Emma or Elizabeth saw that one either!
Am I the only person who despises Midsommar? I went to see it with a friend, and while she loved it, I was just nauseated by it. Just hollow, edgy torture-porn with a big effects budget.
Detective Kunderman is Jewish(per the novel), the thing with the Carp where its bought live and kept in the tub for three days was something done by both Eastern European Jews and Christians in the past. Carp are bottom feeders and take in mud when they eat. Keeping it in the tub for three days was supposed to get the mud out of its system before you killed it and cooked it.
I love this one - its both genuinely unnerving at times, and an unintentionally hilarious illustration of one old man getting grumpier as the movie goes on.
When the Detective played by George C. Scott said he wanted to "pad the job" he was just being sarcastic. It didn't mean anything beyond that. This movie and the first were written by William Peter Blatty, who, for years, wrote comedies (books and scripts in Hollywood) so it wasn't a stretch for him to put in so much humor in this film
Awesome movie - a rare case where studio meddling actually paid off in the end because I don’t think the original “director’s cut” is as strong as the theatrical version
This film is more of a cerebral thriller than a traditional horror movie. It makes the audience think for itself rather than everything explained to them.
The guy who turned into the other guy is Brad Dourif he’s famous for the Chucky franchise he plays Chucky’s voice & he was also in both of Rob Zombies Halloween movies as the sheriff also was the father of Annie in the Halloween movies but yeah best known for the Chucky movies
Kinderman is the creepy detective from the first film and his priest friend who died was the same priest he met at the end of the first film. The story takes place at least ten years or more after the end of the Exorcist. So the two had been friends for awhile. It gets confusing because they really don't acknowledge the events of the first film (other than Damien). Legion wasn't really written as a sequel but more as a story that just had some of the same characters. The director was forced into calling it Exorcist 3 because the producers felt it wouldn't sell without it.
Exorcist III is my favorite chapter. At the end of Exorcist I the demon left Regan's body and went into Father Karras. When Father Karras fell down the steps, the Gemini Killer entered his body before he "died ".
Yes! I definitely want to add strangers to our list because I heard good things about that one and have always been really intrigued but obviously too scared to watch it 🤣
I seen this in the theater when I was 11 This movie by far was the scariest I’ve ever seen it was done all in one take . The nurse scene this lady screamed loud af in the theater. Scared the shit out of everybody
My All time fav movie! Ive literally seen this hundreds of times and can recite every word..Scary,atmospheric and brilliant in every way.George C Scott is the greatest in this movie!!
Brad Dourif's character (The Gemini Killer) is only intended to be visible from the viewer's pov. The person Kinderman is talking to,who "looks like Damien Karris" is actually Damien Karris. Kinderman is more confused than dramatically alarmed for the same reasons Karris was when communicating with Reagan; in spite of appearing at least to be Damien Karris, he is speaking with the Gemini Killer's voice. And because he is a hard nosed detective is more focused on his investigation and gathering information rather than explaining or understanding his findings.
The thing with the Gemini Killer was that he was executed the same night Karras exorcised Pazuzu from Regan at the end of the original Exorcist so Pazuzu took revenge by putting the dead killer's soul in Karras's body to torment him and force him to watch as he killed more people. Then after Karras was committed the Gemini possessed more people to kill again.
The devil kept possession of Damien's body as a recipient for a legion of demons, which is why Damien ended up in an insane asylum. The back and forth shapeshifting into the Gemini Killer was supposed to be apparent for the audience, but not the Detective, all he saw was Damien's "look alike", but the demon that apparently also possessed the Gemini killer was manifesting throughout their conversations, still on a killing rampage coming in and out of Damien's body, making him claim that he was the Gemini killer, who like Damien was supposed to be dead, very sinister and brilliant premise IMO. George C. Scott and Brad Dourif were both absolutely magnificent and their performances are my favorite thing about this movie, and of course Damien's little cameo. Thanks for this reaction, definitely a creepy classic, much like the first one.
You ladies are so pretty! I just had to say that. I love this movie! It was such a good sequel but really underrated film. George C. Scott is a mountain of an actor! Brad Dourif was incredible too! Great flick!
Amazing that in a sequel of "The Exorcist" that the scariest part of this third film is the jump scare that happens after a nurse investigates à noise that turns out to be ice cubes melting in a glass and the patient yells at her. 😆 LOL I actually found this third film pretty outstanding due to George C. Scott's acting combined with the suspense of the psychological thriller aspect 👍 ❤ 😱 🎥 What I also liked about this third film was it was creepy scary without any of the foulness of the original film.
btw the gemini killer is the voice of chucky and is in lord of the rings two towers as wormtounge. He also has a condition that makes him tear a lot. You will find every role he is in at some point will include him tearing.
When the Gemini Killer changes from the priest (Jason Miller) to himself (Brad Douriff) it's supposed to be a symbolic change; seeing his real self that's possessing the priest. In real life, Jason Miller struggled with alcoholism and had trouble remembering his lines so they took what they had and edited the two together. Also I remember the commercials for this, they recommended that pregnant women not come to see this movie.
Oh shit I did not know about Jason Miller having a drinking problem...that's so interesting and also makes sense to why the detective wasn't freaking out like we thought he should be 🤣
Brad Dourif is one of the very few actors that can pull off such dramatic & intense monologues.. After that Lord of the Rings paycheck, he didn't need to work much anymore.
Glad you three appreciated this movie so much. It's a very underrated thriller, but a true classic among movie thriller/horror fans. It actually says something about how underrated this movie continues to be that your Exorcist reaction got over 100,000 views and this so far has got 5,413 views!!!
Anyone on here that wants to watch a movie of someone watching a movie🤦 how did I get here? Ladies making this......wow....glad you have a life. How did I get here?
Brad Dourif knocks it out of the park and into another one. Then knocks it out of that one too. Also, we're seeing Brad Dourif because that's the identity of who is speaking-that's the Gemini Killer as he looked in life. Also, cause originally Jason Miller wasn't in this, it was going to be all Brad Dourif, till the studio wanted Jason Miller back.
A pity that Brad Dourif is getting on in years. One of the greatest missed opportunities in Hollywood history is that he never got the chance to play the Joker. I cannot think of better casting for that character.
You are right, that was Billy Bibbit from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Also the voice of Chucky since the late 80s lol great reaction to a classic!
Yessss I can't get over how underrated this movie is!!!! Thank you so much for the support! It's greatly appreciated and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos! ❤️
The Gemini isn't changing shape in front of people. When he died, he possessed the corpse of Karras. Switching between Karras and the Gemini is just to show you who he's talking to (and also the fact that the whole part with it being Karras' body and the exorcism at the end were forced reshoots by the studio to make it more of an Exorcist movie; the director's cut put together the parts they still had that featured a lot more of Brad Dourif and a different ending and he definitely didn't want to waste Dourif's performance if he didn't have to). "How did he know?" was asked of the priest showing up. He wouldn't. It was a dumb bullshit reshoot forced on the movie by the studio and added in. It served no purpose and didn't make sense. That said, this is still the only good Exoricst movie and a great movie in its own right just for the dialogue that was scripted.
When Kinderman goes to the main town Priest (forget his name), they talk about how the connection between the initial murders is the Regan exorcism from the first film. In that same scene, they talk about how the hospital's priest, Ft. Morning, is seeing the patients there. It's implied that Morning knows what's going on because he visits all the patients and may have recognized Karras or deduced he was possessed anyway. It's sloppy, but it's there.
This is a massive improvement from the exorcist 2. 16:52 that's brad dourif the voice of Chucky the killer doll he's an amazing actor. You should watch the Chucky series from Childs play 1 , 2 and 3, bride of Chucky, seed of Chucky, curse of Chucky and cult of Chucky since the TV series is coming out in October
There aren't many films based on novels that are written and directed by the author, but this is one of them, and it is one of the finest horror films ever made. It is very late.
20:14 Saw this in a theater on a military base. Every airman, sergeant and officer in the building (including me) shrieked like a banshee sitting on a hotplate.
took me a while to figure out that the guy in the cell was damien karras the priest from the 1st movie, apparently when he died at the bottom of the steps in the 1st movie, the gemini killer was executed in prison at the exact same moment and his soul went into the body of the priest so in theory he didnt actually die at the bottom of the steps apparently, he was taken to the morgue but his body went missing.
@20:14 This scene makes the whole movie for me, I love it! Also, George C. Scott is one of my favorite actors. The first scary movie I ever saw was The Changeling, in which he was the protagonist. I saw it in the theater when I was 5, didn't sleep for a week, my mom was pissed. 🤣🤣🤣 Brad Dourif, who plays The Gemini Killer, has the unique talent of being able to shed tears on command, as you might notice in his scenes here. It also is seen when he plays Grima Worm-Tongue in the Lord of the Rings trilogy: he sheds a single tear as Saruman reveals his army of orcs before the Battle of Helms Deep in the second movie of the series. Also, the "Malfoy" priest was played by Nicol Williamson, who was also well known for the role of Merlin in Excalibur (1981) I am sure you have been asked this before, but when you get the chance, a review of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining would make for a great reaction video. I hope you like it.
Amazing and under rated movie. If you notice in the start of the movie, in the priests dream/torment with the black boy holding the rose, you see a robbed figure running back and forth. That is the nighf when the priest from excorcise 1 gets possessed by the gemini killer. The priests body is in a vegetable state for decades for it to repairs its body and brain. I liked how they didnt make this too gorey and used dialouge to scare you. But i wished they kept a few deleted scenes that where gorey. For example there was a scene where you see the priest holding his decapirated head in the confession box. Another scene at the where the demon keeps morphing into all the people he has possessed or killed (eg regan from exorcist 1)
Been waiting for this one, glad to see you all together reacting again. This movie was a psychological horror that actually didn’t show you any of the murders but let your imagine them which was very effective mixed with the creepy images and one biggest jump scare of all time!! Loved the reaction
Late reply but on the demon speaking for the detective on the phone to his wife scene: My sister had a similar incident at my grandma's house. She was speaking to a friend, the line went silent with some static, I think. Anyway when she could hear the friend again he asked "why would you say that?!" very angrily. Apparently some horrible things were said that the friend never repeated since he hung up after. A lot of paranormal events happened in that house. Another relative brought over a girlfriend who immediately felt negative energy in the house. She read palms or something, but yeah.
