Thank you so much for the advice regarding internet because I am one of those people whose job has been made remote as a result of the pandemic and am seriously considering relocation to the Lake Chapala area. I am nowhere near retirement age, but have nonetheless become enraptured by the siren call of this area. Internet is essential to my job, so checking with the realtor AND signing up with multiple providers in order to have a backup is great advice and I have taken note. Thank you so much!

Best to join a local Facebook page for the area you’d interested in. You can get lots of input/opinions that way. Some people just move with suitcases. Most houses come furnished.

Sorry for the slow reply. I wanted to talk to a moving professional to try to verify my answer. The company I talked to says that, yes, they do all the paperwork and you just have to sign, nothing more. She did indicate, however, that not all moving companies operate that way.

@@RetireInLakeChapala Thank you so much for verifying this..it's wonderful to know that their are companies that can take care of everything especially fees/duties..

Sorry, Is there anyone who would like to exchange language practice in your expat community? I live in the southeast of Mexico where non native speakers are, and I would like to keep my English up. Please espread the voice with your members and si if somebody is interested.

@@RetireInLakeChapala Hmmm, good question, then I would say whoever speaks standard English, speciallly somebody who likes reading. No need to have teacher background. I studied Engineering at the University but I also like fiction and non fiction reading. I am in my 50s and I can spare some time to help others to learn Spanish as well. Thanks a lot for your reply. I look forward to hearing from you!

Great interview! Hey, if moving to Ajijic : do you think it is better to drive down there from the states, or to just fly down and buy a car once in the Guadalajara area? Thank you!

In the long run it is far better to sell your vehicle in the states and buy here. If you go with a Permanent residency visa you'll need to import your vehicle into Mexico. If allowed for your particular make and model it will cost $3-4000 and a day at the border. Under a Temporary visa you can have it here with a Temporary Import Permit, same with a Visitors Visa. Bottom line, if you are really going to stay here, buy here.

I will be at Chapala Haciendas in a couple of weeks to pull permits to build a small house. My plan is to go there In The summer time for now, eventually retire there. I'm Very excited. I still need to meet with the Arqui.. very new at this, kind of scary. I've got my life savings and a loan on this project. I come as a new expat, my husband of 30 years is returning home, to his lindo Ajijic.

Where in your opinon is the pride of ownership areas are? Where people take care of landscaping and there homes
@RetireInLakeChapala
@RetireInLakeChapala 3 года назад
That's a tough question to answer as homes vary so much. You can have a old dumpy place beside a super nice modern one. I would say besides the gated communities, look at neighborhoods La Floresta, Chula Vista, Villa Nova, Brisa de Chapala, Vista del Lago, and Raquet Club.
