This video is about American Expats in Mexico. We discuss the many reasons why Mexico has become the number one destination for American expats and retirees. Perhaps it the lower cost of living in Mexico than the US, the network of other expats, the great climate, delicious food and culture, or perhaps the close proximity to the United States.
After spending a few weeks in great cities like Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende, we confirmed why so many expats and retirees from the United States and Canada think Mexico is the best place to live in retirement and now call this home. It is one of the few countrie in the world where we would consider international living, at least on a part-time basis. The climate is incredible, natural beauty all around, reasonable cost of living and an established community of expats already living there. Even if we don't decide to move to Mexico, we can envision many trips to incredible cities like San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, Merida, and more.

I retired to the Lake Chapala area of Mexico almost a year and a half ago, and I love it here. The culture, the friendliness of the people, the sense of community, the quality of the fresh food and the quality of life in general is unsurpassed. As a single woman, I always use common sense, but I have never felt unsafe here, unlike in the States. This move has afforded me a lower cost of living and more resources to pursue my passion of travel. Great video guys. Hopefully, you'll visit this neck of the woods sometime. 🙂

Nowadays only the very wealthy can afford to retire in Mexico as the Mexican government has increased the monthly income requirements more and more. However, there are plenty of other countries in Latin America which are much more welcoming than Mexico.

The current requirement for temporary residency is either a monthly income of $4,350 or savings/investments of $73,200 (at 17 MX pesos per US $). As noted in the video one can live quite comfortably on $30K - $40K US annually. I’d hardly call that “very wealthy”.
