I loved this series. It started slow and I wasn't won over until the later episodes, but as a Hong Konger, as a mother to a toddler, as one who had a parent very much like Margaret, as someone who'd lived the expat life in mainland China and know the gilded life in HK well... I found it an excellent and accurate portrayal of life in HK and the life I know. I know some people don't get why new characters like the activist and his mother were introduced late in the show. IMO, that was important given the political landscape and tensions in HK at the time. It would be inauthentic to have a story unfold in those years in HK and NOT show how the demonstrations impacted daily life there. I loved it. Thank you for what clearly is a work of love.

Sarayu Blue is the best part of the show....I never thought somebody can even overpower Nicole Kidman but she did. Everybody are good though.

Hillary's storyline is the most interesting. I realized that during the elevator scenes with her mother.

I cried in Ep 6! The whole cast was wonderful and convincing! I was drawn into the story further as each episode went! I felt the pain of what the parents were facing! Margaret was looking at the positive side and kept her hope on if Gus was still alive, also understand why Clark would pray for the death of Gus when they identified the body because he wanted to end the suffering of Gus! I love all the details were put in like the, the weather, street scene and noise background for a native Hongkonger myself. Thanks Wang, you are a good story teller!

I didn’t understand why there were new characters introduced in episode 5 that had nothing to do with the characters already introduced. We didn’t need to see the HK woman leave that guy and the young man and his mother who didn’t want him at the protests.

I just wish Mercy was a bit more likable. I understand wanting to have someone who’s grey and complicated but she is straight up unlikable throughout almost. I feel like we need to feel for her more to really feel that ending connect more than it did for me personally. I like its more realistic ending actually. I’m guilty of wanting another season though lol. There’s a lot to milk from these characters and their lives I think.

She was an immature character that didn’t take enough responsibility for her actions. When you are in a busy night market, you need to hold the boy’s hand if you are looking at your phone. I hated how she stopped to text in that kind of environment.
