Hey there my Canuck friend!. I think your budget is very realistic and spot on. I came to Surath at the end of April. I transfered 6000 cad from my savings to my checking account before I left. That 6k cad covered all my hotels, meals and beers and other basic living expenses for about 15 days. That 6k included my first and last month's rent for my condo at 370 cad per month along with everything I needed to purchase for the condo such as a nice quality mattress topper, bedding linens, towels , pots and pans, a bit of cutlery and groceries for an entire month including all of my transportation, 4 airline tickets for my retirement visa to Pattaya and taxis since i first arrived in Bangkok. The visa itself was another 1500 cad beside the 6000 but they take care of everything and I mean everything. The company I dealt with drove me to the bank where I opened a Thai Bank account. After that I was driven immediately to immigration where I by passed all of the lineups to have my picture taken. The only downside is that I had to leave my Passport with immigration witch in turn means I cannot fly anywhere for a month witch is the time it takes to process my visa and receive in the mail at my condo. I hope this helps your viewers because I think it's important that with help each other out when it comes to budgeting for an actual permanent move here. Till the next time, living my best Life. Cheers😢
Great video, Dr. Mark! I definitely took notes from this video for my next trip to Thailand in October. Your videos are the best for Thailand bound travelers. Continue living your best life ever, Doc! 👍🥂
Hey thank you for watching I'll be posting more frequently I have been a little busy with some personal issues But I promise I'll be on here regularly from now on Thank you for your support
Hi Mark, Hope you are well. You remind me of a friend who despite being a multimillionaire livers a very humble lifestyle and uses most of his money to help others and that is indeed what he enjoys and would not be happy spending it on himself. I think what is beautiful about life is that we have different values and there is no right or wrong way to spend your money. One golden rule however is that our income has to be at the very least equivalent to our expenses; if not bad s**t will happen. Peace
Hey Mike my thing is mate I want my money to last as long as I live,,,, I have had all the things that money can buy, and all the things people THINK they need ,,, Experiences and memories are way more valuable than possessions. Thanks for watching and commenting Cheers mate 🍺
@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabeanexactly, same. I have had nice things but they just become a burden and an anchor. I want to make the move to Thailand and have nothing but experiences. Can't wait 👌
Interesting analysis and close to right on. My food expense last month was 8600 baht. Just discovered Moreno’s last week…. ( overdue ) Lovin’ the night market for inexpensive eats. Thai food 100 - 200 baht and delicious. Keep rocking with good content Mark…..
I recommend a weekend trip to Vietnam once a year to freshen up your wardrobe. The factories making branded merchandise provide local small shop retailers with item and the deals are phenomenal.
As I said before , I am ok on 35000tb , well so far anyway haha , nice condo , nice food, nice girlfriend, visa , insurance , travel , laundry , toiletries, clothing
I never spend more than that either, my budget is higher but I'd rather save it, I have a wife and 5yr old daughter and we live a good life on our budget and manage to save half most months and I don't earn much here, about 50k baht a month on average and it's more than enough for us, I think it really depends on age and what you want, we have months where we'll spend 15k all together if there's no travel that month and still live okay, you get sick of most the tourist things and areas after years living here, I've only found it cheaper and easier with time and I love having the savings for if things change

Hi! I use a Gillette fusion razor almost every day. I found SHAVE SECRET SHAVING OIL, it's in a little one ounce plastic bottle on a placard or in a box. I now change blades twice a year, usually at nine months. I've been told common baby oil works just as well. Changing blades twice a year is better than twice a month! Give it a shot.
I bought a whole ounce of weed for 1400 baht and the most I paid per gram was 300 baht. Weed here in Bangkok is super cheap and if you use electronics for consuming over smoking it, you will spend a quarter of what you would spend drinking.
I know a lot of people down here in the South especially Phuket are complaining about the prices of the cannabis.... as far as consuming less with electronics I'll have to take your word for that I would have no idea. Cheers mate 🍺
@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean It seems cheaper to fly to Bangkok and buy weed from a store here then fly back then actually paying the prices you were talking about.

Hey Reaper I am going stick to my 1k budget I just wanted to show people what they should budget if they want a different lifestyle from mine,,, Cheers mate 🍺 How you're well.
I don't smoke or drink and am not into bars or clubs or girls. I live a modest and healthy lifestyle. Living stress free financially is important. I think $2,000 U.S. dollars a month seems good enough for at least two decades.
It really comes down to do people know how to spend money intelligently regardless of what they can afford. Being in a new place often is difficult for some to stay on a budget. we just need to put some thought into how we spend our money.
Hey Mark, love the vids man, but just a heads up on conversion for 60,000 baht or 3000USD. It’s $1737 US get you 60,000 baht, you just might want to correct that written text at the end of your Video.👍
Hey brother thanks for the love,,, And yeah 3-4k a month you'll live an incredible life,,,. the best thing is after about 2 months when you're tired of partying and spending like one of the tiktok kids,,,, you'll start saving and seeing just how amazing life here is That's awesome bro Congratulations Thanks for watching and commenting
Good video mark. I know everyone is different, but here is how I save when I used to go Thailand a lot. I had one massage in 40 trips, didn't like it as I'm tickerlish , so never again. I do all my own laundry in the bathroom and hang it out to dry. I had a brilliant thin lizzy tour shirt once and the laundry lost it. So after that I do my own. I'm bald like you so shave my own head, no need for a barbour. Drove a motorbike one time in pattaya and said f that never again. So no motorbike hire. Mostly used to go to pattaya and chaing mai and udon thani, so I'd walk everywhere. Except the odd Bart bus or tuk tuk. I used to go shopping in the big c and get my own things to make sandwiches. Go to eat at Thai restaurants too. Never fallang fast food. So I used to save a lot of money. And hey guess what, being a stupid falling I'd blow it all on Thai chick's lol. Had some good times Mostly, but not always.. its all swings and roundabouts.
That's absolutely classic!!! and yeah you know what you can see a ton of money if you want to it's so easy I myself personally can't make food or cook food at home cheaper than what I can eat out for I just can't do it... I will be completely honest I'm way too lazy to wash my own clothes I don't even want to go to a laundromat to do it I would rather just pay someone and again the girl that I pay to do my laundry it's so cheap that it's foolish... Cheers mate 🍺
@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean I found washing my own shirts in the shower a good thing to do. Kills the boring times and gave me something to do. Plus I couldn't take the risk of loosing my rock t.shirts. they are big money on ebay. I have so many. Wrnt to so many concerts in 70s and onwards. Going to sell them and raise money for retirement
Hey bro love the handle Yeah I'm actually going to start going next month Yup I'm gonna be one of those..... Lol Cheers mate 🍺 Thanks for watching and commenting
Perfect video Dr. Mark!!Thank you for the useful information you give!! I want to ask ,what is the best method to find a condo in Phuket for rent about 12 to 15 k Thai baht?
Great work Doc and good editing work, As you said a lot of variables to account for, Personally I'm looking at taking a month at a time and moving to different locations, Chang Mai and the north see great or 30 mins below Hua Hin, or Chumphon both of those have a great stretch of coastline, yeah they don't have bells and whistles but I did 5 years in Thailand 30 years ago and I'm looking for a more chilled adventure type of thing this time also when the visa run comes up I don't mind taking advantage of Malaysia's 90 visa on arrival, i'm not s big drinker of alcohol So that's a winner.... So many options. Which ever way you do it doesn't matter, just do it guys!
Thanks for the compliment I truly appreciate your support,,, And yeah there are so many amazing options here I've loved Thai Mueng these have been 2 fantastic months... Cheers mate 🍺
Hi Mark. For those wanting weed, try and avoid the ships that sell small amounts bagged up. Look for the sellers with jars and haggle. I got 5 gram of sevita AJ47 for 1000 baht in April. Most will drop their prices as there is now so many sellers and independent growers and sellers. 300 or 400 baht a gram for top grade buds and the more you are willing to buy the bugger discount that you will get. Most take 100 baht per gram off for buying 3 gram. Hope this helps any who are interested. 🍻🍻🍻

Thanks for the video, to live full time in Thailand, I need at least $3K per month PLUS whatever extra savings I have for emergency & only going out with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week without any barfines & lady drinks. Eating only Thai foods at the market with no farang foods. I don't even smoke cigarettes/weeds & chew tobacco at all.
Great info, btw, im hoping to come back in January, if you are still there apparently fusion razors and stick deoderent is what people should hook you up with
Found your channel and loving it. Visiting Thailand mid July and looking forward to the rainy season. No bars or girls - just great street food & culture. What affordable rentals would you suggest in Pattaya with a gym?
Hey mate welcome to the channel. If you're not looking for bars or bar girls why Pattaya? I would personally look at Jomtien or Hua Hin. . If not those two, Ao Nang in Krabi Province is my favorite place in the world Best way to find monthly rental deals is Facebook Marketplace or Airbnb Cheers Mate
@@americatalkliveLA Hi! You should check out Dusit Grand Park 2, in Jomtien. The value you get for 10.000 baht a month rental there, is incredible. Very cheap, and 5 star area and pools. To be guilted into an interpersonal activity requires self categorising into a moral community which arguably is difficult given the circumstances, but the influence is possibly inflation of self identity through clever devices such as cultural memes or tropes around masculine duty. These folk are seriously clever.

verry informative. what % are really intent on moving vesus % want to just scout it out? individual tastes seem to be a diffiult subject for vlogs because who knows what are some of the personal criteria (beyond budget)? to me, the baggage.we are lookiing to add to our lives starts with what our trip agenda is. of course, when oouu guides show us something awesome, they also never neglect to take us shopping to spend more of our money. i have a few nice keepsakes, but i’ve never seen any vlog investigate what others are valuing.

Hi Mark, I’m planning to move out to Jomtien in two years from UK. I have some private and state pensions, I’m trying to find out information about how to manage that money coming in, is it best to have in a Thai account or use my normal account? Also how do expats manage the variation in exchange rate?any advice you can give would be appreciated! Cheers Mate
if you're coming on a retirement visa or an education visa anything other than a tourist visa you can open a local bank account and that's what I would suggest doing.... that way you're not paying any type of transaction fees at the bank machines because they can get a little high.... As for the exchange rate here's what I do when the baht is really low I go in and get a couple hundred thousand at a time....
Is 15k enough too live in Thailand?? I'm not into clubs, drinking, girls or smoking. Honestly just food and shelter the necessities to live like travel and phone. I'd like too leave the states And Thailand seems it might be for me
@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean I'm thinking I want too be a permanent resident So I guess the question is, will 15kusd get me settled in and possibly established enough, to be a permanent resident
Hey Bruce I guess it all depends Brother on what type of income you have every month or if we're talking just a flat 15,000 and that's it... If you would like to reach out to me on Facebook instead of telling your life story in the comments so everyone can see it please feel free to and I can talk at greater length Facebook Mark Sabean
I am thinking either Bangkok or Phuket or Jomtien. Somewhere affordable and quiet but convenient and close to shops and restaurants and around $2,000 USD a month.
You guys living on 1000 a month will learn real quick when prices of goods and services rise AND IT WILL happen. So all you guys thinking you guys living good now will soon have to come back to the states and start all over again. If you guys living on 1000$ a month y’all better have 3k minimum coming in consistently. Cuz this notion of pension pay and retirement will quickly fade. Not saying you can’t live a good life witch you can however you must have enough to adjust to inflation and not have it affect you a tad bit.
First off you're 💯 correct that prices will raise, however not as drastically as you would think. good example is that nothing has really changed in Cambodia for the past 10 years except the tourist sites have gone up about 10% Food drinks and accommodations are the same if not cheaper in some areas... Same goes for Thailand Now, for the all you guys will have to come back to The United States and start over again?????? Why would I go to The USA, I'm Canadian Mate 🍺 Also I'm doing ok LOL ,,,,,so not sure what I have to start over for,,,,. As for how much you need monthly,,,, Well that is up for debate. It really depends on your lifestyle as I have been showing by living and loving this life for 2 years!!!!!! 3k(would be perfect no question) but even if you can't get that much at least 1.5-1.8k a month is more going to allow you to keep living an incredible life. Tell me honestly what type of life you can live in The States with fifteen hundred bucks????? The key to it all not spending more than you being in.... Pretty simple That allows you to have a cushion later in when things go up, as they will. What you don't waste today, you have for tomorrow The trouble is most people don't understand the concept of s budget and living within their means..... And again as for all of us having to come back and start over,,,,, Don't lump us all together,,,, BECAUSE,,,,,, I'msorry but guys who have actually been here to Thailand and LIVED here know the truth about Thailand,,,,, they won't need to crawl back to The States or any other country,,,, The guys that are running around like they're on vacation and trying to impress everyone,,,,, yeah they'll be back home broke and miserable...... Not guys like me, or guys that are smart enough to follow my life advice...... Also keep.in mind,,,,,, just because someone choses to live on 1k a month doesn't mean that's all they have,,,,, Cheers mate 🍺 Thanks for watching and commenting *PLEASE WATCH MY VIDEO COMING IN A WEEK ABOUT WHY I LIVE IN THAILAND LIKE A HOBO....... I'm sure it will change your perspective
My phone plan is 350thb a month, you don't need home internet, just use your phone and tether to your laptops and tv if thats your thing and even the worst rooms usually have WiFi and yes, the newest crap electronically just isn't needed, I've been the same Samsung for 4yrs now and still manage my workload between it and my laptop, you can save so much on things like this here if you don't care about your tech being a fashion accessory which is just stupidity to me

@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean yep I pay 350 baht a month for the 2 phones, there's cheap plans if you just go into the store and ask, I know a few people that pay over 1000 for exactly the same plan, they only have to go in and ask and they'll reduce the price to keep you as a customer

60,000THB is reasonable for most single people. But that's about the minimum. You can do it on $1,000 but you won't thrive. As some of my Thai colleagues say, Thailand has enough poor people of their own. They don't want to import poor people from other countries.
That's a great point the Thai people make.... But just because you live on 1k a month doesn't mean you're poor!!!!!!!! Let's clarify that! Some people, such as myself have decided not to waste money and have found simpler ways to live Is it for everyone? Nope,,,, but I've proven it can be some and it can be amazing if you love life.. and take advantage of all that Thailand offers,,,,, But If you're the type that parties at the bars etc etc no you can't do it If you can't be alone for 5 minutes,,,,, nope Keep in mind that if one is coming to retire there is a minimum threshold that the government requires you to meet I'm order to qualify for a retirement visa,,,,, and it is damn close to your 60k suggestion!!!! But just because you have 69k or more,,,,, doesn't mean you have to spend it every single month!!!! Cheers Mate 🍻
