This can't be taught..and is possibly the most extraordinary 3 minutes on YT! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! She is fierce! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).

So many great songs from Angelina.....try "I'd Rather Go Blind", "Feeling Good", "Born to Die", "Million Years Ago"... or anything she sings really, you can't go wrong with Angelina.

I've confirmed my belief by searching out the names of other singers, both young and old, who have also performed this and listening to those performances. Thanks for this amazing and shocked reaction with Angelina, NJ. This is the homage of Angelina to Screamin' and isn't an imitation, rather a tribute to a singer she has much listened to and admires. Not all adults know this great performer, but certainly the only girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing his song without any fear, is she. It's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 ❤️ This is Angelina, the incredible magical little girl and this is probably one of the best reinterpretations made by a singer in over 60 years of this song.

Angelina really on fire here! Her inspiration was the original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins (1956). It had been recorded after Jay and the band had a few beers (quite a few), the result was something more like theatre! From that Angelina extracted a song, gave it her twist. She made changes to the musical arrangement (notes at beginning of the video). Her interpretation of the song is incredible, desperate love! This was a one off performance, a concept version if you like, later she evolved a more refined version, but still with the passion and emotion. She performed it was she was 11 in a concert in Seoul, Korea and in Germany in Little big Stars. Certainly a song with a message, she delivers it like no other. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind the world that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

She taught herself, with the help of mom and grandma Mery, from infancy just by listening to the jazz legends, esp Billie Holiday. Of course she attends an arts specialty school, and has had voice coaches since perhaps age 7. In an interview from about this time, she said that aside from singing classes at school, she "sings at home about 1 hour a day". Not really that intensive for that rate she's developed.

The Barefoot Princess is only 9 here, some say ten, but the dates prove 9. You should hear her from Norway's got Talent, Bang Bang. here she was 7, and she went on to win.
