Great explanation and overview. That's awesome you are reviewing both this and the Wen saw .

Great in-depth look. Love the way you’ve got the worlds best tracksaw and you cut OSB 🤣

Lol! A sheet of Baltic birch costs about the same as Wen track saw I reviewed. I’ve been expecting this comment since the vid dropped. Thanks for watching Ian!!

'world's best' - by what measure? Have you tested it against them all, including the Mafell? OSB is actually a good test of a track-saw- its tendency to tear-out is high- surprised you did not find that during your testing...

Having used both Makita and Festool I.m staying with Makita. Festool is good but underpowered, especially on hardwoods

The Festool works well- but so do all the other major brands, at a lower price point. Festool often create the first product of a type (or buy the company that does) and sell it at a considerable premium. A few years ago they were fined several millions by the EU for price fixing. They rarely upgrade their products- most of their cordless tools are still not brushless. Breakdown analysis shows there is nothing unusual about the construction- standard technology and mainly aluminium and plastic. The plug-in power cord is a nice feature- which I have fitted to all my tools (using a superior quality plug and socket for less than Festool charges). Personally I chose the DeWalt track saw- I like the cantilever plunge. Amongst other things, it means that the riving knife is the correct depth to match the blade. No track-saw has all the features- but they can be added. Splinter guard and score cut I added, and the DeWalt already has anti-kickback built in. I cover these modifications on my channel.

I was very impressed with the Festool track saw but not $800 impressed. I’ve always been fascinated with they’re ability to charge 2-3 time more than a good quality brand like DeWALT. Thanks for the comment!

@@ProjectsForAllReviews I think it is a combination of the collecting gene and the jewelry aspect. You can buy a watch for less than the annual service charge for a Rolex that is more accurate. But that does not seem to harm sales... Those that cannot judge for themselves follow fashion, and assume that paying more must be better. It is also an attempt to buy status- 'DeWalt and Makita are used by carpenters- I am a cabinet maker!'. The systainer (moderately good when first launched, but now eclipsed in functionality by Toughsystem II and Packout to name but two) is the badge- line your workshop with them! Even though toolboxes are the worst form of workshop tool storage... Annoying as it is, you will not change their view- faith is not amenable to analysis.

Festool has always been a bit overpriced for what you get. You’re just buying a name.
