Lord have mercy! That’s some garage bill. Labour is the hefty part. So the major service I’ve just done myself. All oils, engine, gear box, transfer box, both axles, all filters for under £200 and about 4 hours work. Some of the other jobs I’d have a bash at, but not all are in my ability being an amateur. RU-vid is your friend and you could have easily halved that bill if you had a go with the easier bits and left the difficult ones for the garage. Think of the content😉
Its also worth considering that a defender is not really going to depreciate in value, compared to a modern car. Even with those servicing costs, you're still financially better off vs if you bought a discovery etc.
not wishing to sound smug but I'm so glad I can do all of that myself! parts aren't expensive but like you say labour is the biggest! the transfer box "O-ring" if it's the one on the intermediate shaft, is quite a big job probably why they had to take the transfer box off the gearbox (new seal added) that job alone is likley to be 4/5 hours labour so probably 1/3 of you labour bill alone. might be worth you trying some of the easier stuff yourself going forward. if you havent already, buy a diagnostic tool for it :)
WOW thats a hell of a bill, But LR motors is correct me if im wrong part of the Twisted group so all the work will have been done right. Now that's piece of mind..
thats not a bad bill haha, I'm taking mine in not for its mot but for general running repairs in a couple of weeks i need all the springs and shocks replaced for a heavier duty as mines sagging a lot and wheels are rubbing the arches lol, ill be getting all new flexy brake lines as the springs will be taller too, then i found out the other day my clutch release bearing has started to knock so they have to take the whole steering column out to replace a £10 part :( new cam belt, new wheel bearing and swivel housing offside front to top it off iv recently started getting a major case of death wabble.... godda love em
Wow that’s a big bill. Worth it but serious money. I’m declaring my defender 110 SORN it’s got so many issues while I save up to fix them all. Once it’s all done it’s getting sold. Amazing cars to own but a ball ache to keep on the road imho
The way I look at it is to maintain any vehicle is going to cost from time-to-time, but when it’s done, you have an awesome vehicle and not some boring piece of plain transportation. Plus imagine how much you saved by not taking it to Land Rover for the servicing.
Good to hear that you got it all sorted. Whilst that is a large amount of money count yourself lucky that you haven't been quoted close to 4k for your latest round of repairs like me! The old girl is still in the garage now and might leave me having to arrive at the LRO show in a volvo! The shame.
@@ScoutTheDefender Thanks man. The issues include but are not limited to: broken water pump (broke on way to garage), new cam belt (expected maintenance), Knackered clutch, very worn gear set and a bunch of new seals around the gearbox area, and finally a complete front end rewire. I expected some of the issues when buying the truck so managed to save up for them but it doesn't make it a pleasant bill. Wolfie isn't just my first landy but my first car lol. Despite the cost thus far, I still don't regret my decision .... yet!
Hi - Just found your channel today (26/08/22) - Binged watched, and wanted to say thanks for the content - great production values. Been a long time LR owner myself - All Discovery's until now - and just about to go 'Proper' with a 110. looking forward to pinching your ideas and adding upgrades. thanks.
You could save money by doing fluid change yourself. But I guess you have no space? I think everything is possible to do on your own but only if you have covered area. I am doing on the side of Road and traffic noise and people walking pass drive me mad! Also it was cold windy day. I was just replacing transmission brake on my 300tdi but because of environment, my brain was not working at all. I had so much trouble putting them back. I also know I have cracked one of adjuster arm as well by tightening adjustment nut too much! So It need to come apart again. I will not taking out transfer box or transmission on my own for sure.
Time to get your hands dirty young man and learn to do some mechanical work yourself. The Landover community is great there's always help on hand if you get stuck or are not sure but have a go.
Trouble is you've spent thousands on making it look how you want instead of putting money into the mechanics. It's a 2007 be aware. It's not about the outside.
