In this video I compare the $500 Line 6 G70 and $150 Xvive U2 guitar wireless systems. I look at the size, features, range, tone, and noise in this detailed comparison. Will the U2 hold up to the G70? Watch and find out!

THIS is how a comparison should be done! I especially appreciate the spectral analysis starting at 10:27. It is impossible to hear the subtle nuance of any instrument when using RU-vid. The sound is affected by the digital to analog conversion, bit rate acquired & WiFi connection. Using the spectral analysis shows where and how much high end roll off, scooped mods or boosted low end actually occurs. Excellent video

Good to know! I'm still rocking my AKG Guitarbug wireless system 10+ years after they stopped making them. I hope it never dies, nothing out there today is as good and/or compact as the Guitarbug!

Dude! I used to have the same wireless. No idea why I ever got rid of it. Maybe because the locking tab on the battery cover broke. That thing was awesome!

This is a very helpful comparison. However, I have to say that the rating may be subjective because at the end of the day, it's a question of preference and context. The U2 may be enough for small venues. Likewise, G70 is preferable for bigger ones. I guess traveling with rigs is also a factor as these U2 units can literally be carried in our pockets and the G70 is ought to be treated differently. Nonetheless, a lot of factors mentioned here in this video are very insightful. Thanks, man!

I recently purchased the U2 system and used it at a gig last week. I play into a Helix and then to the PA. Playing hard rock, I use a lost of high gain sounds, and I was worried about the noise that might be generated by the U2 system. My worries were groundless. The system is incredibly stable and quiet (quieter than using cable), and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. I am glad I took the plunge. If you are considering buying the U2 system, go for it. You will have no regrets.

Great analysis...especially on tone. You need to add a 'cost' category to your chart. You do mention cost quite a bit, but at more than three times the cost, the U2 would have had a better end score in relation to the more expensive unit. Nice job!

Only 191 views? Mate, that's by far the best wireless comparison I've found on youtube, and then in the other hand there are famous RU-vidrs like Steve T or Music is Win doing stupid videos, not actually comparing the wireless... and they get thousands of views. Can't understand it. Really good job dude!

I purchased the U2 system two days ago and tested it out at a large venue using my Sterling MM StingRay 5 and my Rumble 350. I didn't notice any dropouts or latency issues when I walked off the stage or went backstage. I have an old Nady which would dropout on me whenever I was out of range.

Bro., I know I am tardy, but thank you for being one of the first reviewers I've seen that didn't do a RU-vid sound comparison. I agree that often it is hard to discern differences given the manipulation that has occurred by the time it gets to our ears over RU-vid; moreover, sometimes I wonder if many of the guitarist are you using those comparisons to highlight their playing ability...lol....

Awesome video on this matter. Just to point out that It would be even better to have made the comparison between two of the same brand products. I mean, you could pick the Line 6 G10 instead of the U2. I think, the results would change. I tried a few of the cheaper systems and Line6 are best by far. I don't know wich is the difference between the expensive ones, but if you compare the G10 with the U2 you'll notice a big difference between them. But anyway, is a great video. Thanx for doing it.

Very helpful comparison, scientific and fair. However for my home application, U2 is just enough since I just use it to prevent having any electrical stung from any leakage from the power supplly. Cheers from Indonesia.

Great video. On the cable comparisons for frequency analysis, The low frequencies are not even frequencies the human ear can hear, so no worries there. The high end differences are worth looking at, especially for clean, sparkly tones. I have a Line 6 G30 that drops out like mad at the venues I play and I've stopped using it. I like the channel scan feature of the G70 and might have to give it a try. Thanks for the great vid!

Also to mention: The G70 is 1.5ms latency. The U2 is 5ms latency. Since you don't want more than 15ms total latency, in order to play in time with your bandmates & in order to experience music in real-time, without feeling weird delays, this means you can connect 3 additional devices (like digital pedals or effects) to the G70 setup, but only 2 devices max to the U2 setup.

I've been using the Xvive U2 for just over 2 years now regularly. The battery life on the receiver has diminished to around 3 hours. In fact, the system has failed on me for the last 3 gigs. I'm not knocking the Xvive, it is a very good and easy to use system. It's just something to be aware of.

How about sensitivity to interference. I know the U2 uses the same baseband and wifi and this can be a problem. Having said that, I have a U2 and have never had an insurmountable problem. In fact, 3 of the guys I play with use a U2 and I was pleasantly surprised that 4 channels was enough to avoid drop outs.

I don’t understand why you didn’t address 2 huge categories: 1/frequencies interferences. The xvive is on 2.4ghz so it’s gonna be bad in big venues 2/the latency: again, because xvive is on Wifi, you’ll get 5ms vs 0ms for a radio transmission

Try the U2 with a bass or guitar that has active electronics. It transmits a high frequency whine, which makes it unusable unless you add an extension cable and wear the transmitter behind you like a conventional pack.

Only significant difference I could see are range and price. I think most people would rather save $350 and get a couple nice pedals that they've been pining over.

Not sure when I would need to be 100 feet from the receiver? Playing the national anthem at sporting events? Playing at Tokyo Dome. Can't really give points off for something that is not really applicable.
@ManBunMetalHead
@ManBunMetalHead 5 лет назад
You make some good points. One thing to consider is you're rarely in direct line of sight to the receiver. So a longer line of sight should yield longer obstructed line.

First nice review, But still not comparable because G70 is just outdated and way more to do to get it to work. The U2 is just plug and play. Better battery and who the hell gonna play 100ft away from his band. Thats just pathetic. So if people fo reviews on something it should be a realistic one.

DUDE!!! The only sound that counts is when you are playing! No one cares about the nose when nothing is happening on stage. You have hate for the U2 because you are in love with the big clumpy system.
@ManBunMetalHead
@ManBunMetalHead 5 лет назад
The underlying noise is still present when you are playing and can be amplified by other pedals in the system or your amp. This may not be a big deal if you're playing through a heavy distorted channel, but as soon as you play anything clean, the noise becomes very apparent. Whether or not noise is an issue for you, you can't discount the differences in tone when tone is king. I do not "hate" the U2, I am merely providing an objective comparison of the two systems.
@Firebrand911
@Firebrand911 5 лет назад
He gave it a good review for what it is. There are reports of the sound cutting in an out at 10' if furniture is in the way, etc, so, the U2 is more of a toy that could be used for gigs with caveat emptor; and the G70 seems like a reliable gigging device.
