Nov 6, 2018 I flew to Texas for a gig and brought my Boss WL20 with me. It's awesome to have my amp/fx in my HX Stomp (TINY Line 6 Helix... amazing), and a super tiny wireless. At the gig, it did work for me, however, if I moved more than 10 feet from the receiver, it did start to drop out. Again, that's the environment and unpredictability of 2.4ghz. Especially for events where there is a lot of bluetooth and wifi. It wasn't a high energy gig, so standing by my HX Stomp was no problem. But I had my backup cable ready just in case. Always plan for that.
Jan 20, 2019 I was fortunate enough to have a one-off gig in Costa Rica. I brought my Line 6 HX Stomp and my Boss WL20 wireless. It worked great, but when I would go to the front of the stage for guitar solos, it would cut out a little bit. I doubt anyone but me noticed, but it started cutting out around 20/25 feet. I think for the next travel gig, I’m going to bring my nice Shure wireless and let my singer use the WL20 on his acoustic guitar. Maybe it’s something with my guitar? I dunno, it always works for my singer’s acoustic and also works when we send click from our iPad using an adapter. I dunno. I’m still glad I got it, but it does have limitations.
March 9, 2019 - final update. I took my Boss WL20 to Jamaica for my singer to use with his acoustic guitar. Zero problems at all for him. He never has issues when he uses it, but I've had a few issues with it, and I think it's because my guitar has a midi pickup in it? I'm not sure. Every now and then I get issues with it, so I've switched over to the Sennheiser EW 112's (which are basically two body packs running off of AA batteries). Those seem to work great, but they are about 4 times the price of this one. I still say these are great for simpler options, but every now and then I have issues with mine, so I just bring my WL20 for my singer, and bassist sometimes, and we use it for one of my bands to run a click track from an iPad to our mixer to our ears, and have zero problems with that. I use the Sennheiser EW 112's when I need a portable one (which is for my flying gigs) where I use it with my HX Stomp. But it seems to work really well still for everything else. Cheers!
10/15/19 - Bonus update. I just got back from a 2 week tour in Europe. I was playing metal music, and there was a backline provided. I only needed a distortion tone because we didn't have any clean sections. I ended up not bring ANY pedals, and just went direct into the amp. I wish I had a boost and delay for my solos, but I only had 3 so I figured I could go without it. Being able to just plug the Boss WL20 directly into the amp made things SUPER easy. I had no problems all 2 weeks except for a little bit in Munich. My nice Sennheiser ones I could use everywhere except for in Germany, and we had 3 shows in Germany. The first 2 were in Germany, and I ended up just sticking with my Boss WL20. I still trust my Sennheiser's more, but man, the 30 seconds set up and tear down with the Boss WL20 was amazing!

Very useful, thanks. My Xvive has only dropped out a few times - once when someone left a phone recharging right under my receiver in the footpedal. Using it on a violin with an active preamp, I do get some whine and buzz (they do say don't use it like that, so I'm not blaming them!). Using the noise gate in my multi-effects cleans it up fine, though.

Hey Scott it's Mat - just thought you should know I bought four sets of those Boss WL-20L units after seeing this video. So much more convenient for quick acoustic plug'n play type gigs. I can go wirelessly in and out of my VL3, which is now battery powered, into a battery powered amp. Essentially I now don't need to be even CLOSE to the drunkards. Hope all's well mate! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us ants...

@@ScottUhlMusic yes I was worried about the same thing but - touch wood - no issues of any kind so far using two sets each in close combat. The manual claims up to fourteen pairs can negotiate around each other, but I think if you're at that point, you really need a guy who rigs the stage for you, anyway! In other news, I'm starting to like SampleTank a lot more, but I'm struggling to find specific sounds like the classic orchestral stab, or some big tubular bells. Seems like I'll have to do some random purchasing and just hope for the best.

I've been using the Xvive for a year now with both passive and active guitars and basses. Not one drop out, at least I didn't notice any, no interference and noise free. I've played at festivals and small bars and never had a single problem. Maybe I've just been lucky so far.

A lot of people seem to have your experience. A friend of mine who gigs every weekend only has one venue where it doesn’t work. Anytime I lend it to my singer, it works fine (except once). But the GLX Shure mics (which also run on 2.4ghz) cuts out quite a bit. Even when we are not using these. It’s really interesting. The plug-n-play part of these are amazing. But there is always a downside to it. Still, these are great units.

I love the xvive is amazing ! I bought it thinking it would be okay... but it's incredible... I've found the xvive lasts longer than 5 hours. Not had issues even though i gig with yamaha air fader

Cheers, thanks Fred. Have you used these in Spain? I recently was on tour in Europe and I brought the Boss one with me. I only had problems in Munich if we got too far away from my amp. But in all other spots (Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Belgium) I had no problems. We didn't play Spain though.

@@ScottUhlMusic I do not have them, but my friends, musicians, and the only one who gave them problems was the Xvive U2 by connecting it to active pickup guitars that didn't sound (EMG) the other devices at least to my friends without problem. sorry my english is very bad use google traslator, I hope you understand me. I have the G10 and it's a winner. However I really like the Boss setup. I took about to years off from gigging and just started back. I'm a tone snob and I can not tell the difference with any digital system I've ever used. I might have to give that Boss a try. It would be awesome for outdoor battery powered stuff in the old street cube. Great review. Glad I found your channel. That is how to do a review. No BS well done sir 👍

I've been using the AKG wireless bug for yrs. Like it so much I bought 7 systems used. Could easily run 5 at 1 time if I needed to. 2 guitars, bass, Mic and acoustic through P. A. Never done that yet though.

@@ScottUhlMusic Well on RU-vid here is a In Ear Monitor video. And they suggest using rechargeable wireless units. So I got 2 of those also. Now I use 1 AKG wireless bug that's all AAA battery powered and we use my rechargeables for other on stage stuff. Just eliminates 3 cables around on stage. Also another benefit I never knew they boost the signal of my acoustics guitars so I use less volume on the guitar itself for cleaner clearer acoustic sound. I didn't know this until a dead recharge happened and plugged in a cord. Went from like 2 on the guitar volume knob to 6 to get the same loudness. And of course lot more unnatural acoustic sound. The rechargeables I use are 5.8 kHz and are Getaria brand. Only $50+ on Amazon . Real nice surprise. This is for a weekly outside performance with a rechargeable power generator that We're trying not to max out too much. We run 2 rechargeable mics and 1 rechargeable bug for keyboard and battery bug for guitar. Then other rechargeable goes from mixer to powered speaker. Only things in generator are the mixer, keyboard and powered speaker. Sometimes a fan. Part of being in So Fla during summer. This is an outdoor church service. And everything takes about 2 hrs

Scott here is something of interest, me and my bass player use line 6 G10.If you plug into your guitar and his bass at the same time it will search for the best signal and you or your bass will get each others signal in each others amp

If the guitarist goes first, searches for FQ and then plugs in with bass following only after guitar is set, is there still a problem of hearing each other in both amps at the same time?

That was very helpful. Thanks very much. Quick question - do you think that the Boss would get in the way/be annoying if used with an SG? The reason I am asking is that the jack on the guitar is about 1.5" from the bridge pickup's volume knob. Initially, I was thinking that the Xvive would be the most versatile of these three, but given that it seems to be the most vulnerable to interference, I am thinking that the Boss might be the best bang for the buck.

Not sure my new Sire MM P7-5er has active pups, it is active/passive. I'm getting slight buzz that stops when I grab the transmitter w my hand. I did try the receiver/transm in my pedal board, in and out put, still buzzy. Maybe the bass' cavity needs shielding? Will check all that. But once at playing volume, wasn't an audible issue. I have the Line 6-G30 that works fine. Just wanted to try this type system. Will mostly will continue to use the custom made Bayou Cables I bought several years ago. Very good review here. Great video. I’m a busker. I was hoping to get a Bluetooth adapter for my iPad (backing tracks) and one of these devices for my guitars..but not if they’re going to be fighting each other.... And getting one of them only, would not be beneficial.

If you have 1 Bluetooth device and 1 of these 2.4ghz devices, that’s not too bad. Just don’t put it by a WiFi router for sure. And I did just release a new video of a plug-n-play wireless on the 5.8ghz band, which is awesome. Check my channel or check the description. I predict that more companies like Boss and Xvive and Line6 will start to make units in the 5.8ghz range because 2.4 is so crowded right now.

Curious, when you used the Boss units with Wx mics and Wx router, did you allow it to find the best frequencies AFTER turning on all other wireless units?

You mean the GLX mics? I honestly cannot remember which "scan" we did first... but the GLX mics went down, and the Boss WL20 kept working. It was definitely the venue though, because we've done the same set up at other venues without any problems. GLX are great mics, but for more reliability, I would get the GLX Advanced with the antenna combiner.

i have the Xvive and the boss i started getting problems with the Xvive with conflicks when we upgraded out pastors headset to line 6 and all the channels are screwed so i went ot boss and never had a problem sence, the Xvive distance i have gotten 150 feet fromt he Xvive and 53 feet from the boss, the boss for sure is the best so far i have also got the Joyo jw-01 and it was my first wireless they can be a pain in the ass when using more then one set of joyos, your problem with the boss on the guitar you showed is the nut for your guitar jack has to be flush so add some extra washers like i did and no more problems happend on my 2018 les paul and my telecaster so i added in the washers on both and the problem was cured ,,

Yeah when you buy cheap you can use very little wireless all at once. To use a lot of wireless all at once, you need more expensive wireless models 👍

To me Xvive is the one that is more practical since you can fold it so it less likely for you to knock it while moving around. I have the Line 6 one but i accidentally knocked it twice while on gig and i had to replace the transmitter twice.

I do personally think that the G10 sticking out so far does kind of look ugly on stage for sure. Not the biggest deal breaker for me, but I agree, it doesn’t look great.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention about the power issue with the Line 6. The USB cable does NOT like to stay connected to the base/receiver. I have my cable duct taped into the base so I don't lose power and charging.

When you take the G10 outside the US, can you charge it just like you charge your phone? If I take my iPhone to the EU I can charge it any number of ways but don't need anything more than a US to EU pwr adapter to get into a wall socket. Same thing with the G10 since it uses a usb charger?

I brought the WL20 on my Europe tour and it worked great. I had one outlet in my bunk on the bus. I had to get an adapter that turned the EU plug into an American one but it also provided 2 USB plugs so I could charge it when I needed to. Anything that you need to convert to a US plug you’ll need to bring the adapter

I have never had my Xvives cut out. On my Yamaha SL200 I got some hum--all I had to do was move the transmitter away from the body. The problem I have had is battery bloating. They still work but it's a bit scary.

Hi Semih. If I’m understanding you correctly you want to use it almost as an inear monitor system? If so, I’ve done that before with this actually. I used the Boss WL20 to plug into a Behringer P2 headphone amp and mixed my inears that way. It works great!

One more question, sorry. I was looking through my buddys old YT videos and he was using a Line 6 G30 wireless unit. Only difference on that unit is that you must use a pack on your guitar strap

Yup, the G30 is not just a plug n play like the ones in my video. And they are on 2.4ghz as well. I would go with a plug n play one for ease of use, or get one in the 470-600mhz band if you don’t mind the pack for the strap. The one I use 90% of the time is a Sennheiser one like that.

Cannot find this infos: is the WL20 a stereo transmitter/receiver? Can I plug it in on a stereo guitar (mag + piezo) and split the signals at the receiver with a Y cable?

Would be a problem for any of those systems if everyone in the band are using in ears? Wondered if some interference could happen, cause there is already a lot of wireless stuff on stage already, in ears, mics, etc. So though it could be a problem?

The more wireless you have, the more of a chance they are to interfere without an antenna combiner. I made that mistake before as well with cheaper wireless. When you buy more expensive wireless, they have a higher frequency range, so there are more channels available, but if you have too many antenna's around each other, you can get interference. With these 2.4ghz ones, we use the WL20 to send a click track to our ears (from our iPad) and a Shure GLX wireless microphone. Once we start adding more we seem to get issues, because we have a lot of wireless stuff. Every system is different. If you are using a lot of wireless, you have to spend the money to be sure they can all work together. These cheaper ones are great if you don't have a lot of wireless units

I had the G-10 but sold it to get the Boss WL-50 ,the best in my opinion. I have never had a glitch in the last 3 years but I gigged with a guy using the Xvive and he was in real trouble and had to revert to cable.

About the cut-outs... Do you configure routers to always use the same 2.4 GHz channel?

This is a good solution if you are in charge of the routers. However, I’ve played at multiple venues and bars where 2.4 cuts out. When that happens, I cannot configure the router. But this is a good solution if you run your own IEMs and use a router!

Plan to just use this on acoustic guitars. Specifically a Yamaha slg 200, a martin with lr baggs anthem and a traveler guitar with 9v. Will the boss work? I have the g30 for my electric needs.

My experience with the xvive is it blows... Nothing but static whatever channel. Though, I get a lot of noise in my house. Its made outta adamantium or mithril or some shit... So Im gonna try the boss or line 6. Awesome comparison, btw, thanks!

I'm really glad to hear I'm not the only one who has an issue with the XVive the most. I have another friend who uses it, and every single gig except for one place he plays at it works flawlessly. I think it's because of my midi pick up I have installed on my guitar. The Boss one works better for me, but still not flawless. But when I lend it to my singer or my bass player, they have zero problems with it. I ended up getting the Sennhesier EW112 (which are meant for lavalier mics, but can be used with anything... I use it for my PA actually when I need to put the speakers far away). Definitely way more expensive, but they run on AA batteries and work with no problem. But for the easy-plug-in-play ones, I recommend the Boss one

I have a Bose S1 Bluetooth amplifier And I normally play backing tracks hooked up to my phone through Bluetooth so if I use this Bose wireless system will the Bluetooth mess with the Guitar signal?

I had the G10 for a year or so...ran into the active pickup situation, went back to store and returned it, and then asked a tech friend that worked there...well, wish i would've known the simple fix...he ended up swapping two wires inside my guitar, but it worked (hopefully, i don't run into problems down the road)...so i bought another one...used it for about a year, no problems...i still think it's a great entry level wireless, but they should've made it 9v power...the micro usb port on the base/receiver went bad...so i just returned to using a cable for now.

bnoyz3 hey I got the same problem as you. I just changed the USB cable and it works perfectly. Maybe you can try that. My other problem is that it doesn't stay in the jack input now. It pushes out. But other than that it sounds great. Peace

Yep, I had those same two problems with my electric violin. You can use a simple mono adaptor to get round the problem (I think they even supply one with the G10 now), but obviously that makes it less neat, so I also got my violin modified. My Micro USB port also failed just under 2 years, so got a replacement unit under warranty. I modified the replacement to remove all strain from the onboard micro USB port. They are bringing out a G10s which is of metal construction and does have an additional standard 9V DC power input socket, so you might want to look out for that.

I can't understand why on earth they didn't put a normal 9VDC power socket on the G10. That is the dumbest shit I've ever heard of. Plenty of people complaining about the micro USB being flimsy.

Yeah that’s unfortunate. Most of the newer wireless don’t have that problem with active pickups. I love line 6 stuff, but the G10 isn’t great and is too expensive for sure

The most convenient and easy wireless system is Getaria 2.4, its range 90 feet, very clear sound for 4 hours. The best is the price , 40 dollars in Amazon.

Yeah these have come to my attention after posting this video. When I made this video, these were the main 3. I just saw that the Getaria and other companies like Ammoon are making ones in 5.8ghz. I'm really curious to try some of those out as well to see the difference. I swear I'm the only person who constantly struggles with 2.4ghz. Although I do have more wireless than most.

Yup the WL50 does have the pedal board connector. But I prefer the portability of the WL20. And I would be at least 10 feet from a router

I was a tone snob for years. At the end of the day, the sound guy is probably going to butcher your tone anyway, and if he doesn't, the house gear will. I switched to a modeling head and DI to FOH. Not even worth it to carry a stack anymore, and when you're good enough for it to matter, there will be roadies to load that shit for you. Best thing I ever did. I have two of these, one going from guitar to wah, one from wah to amp. Couldn't resist using the battery for the wah to be super cool. Now all I have to load is a 6u rack case, pedal & amp switch, and guitars. Love it! Only other tone snobs can really tell. I'm good with that.

Let the sound guys worry about what the audience hears. You worry about what they are sending back through your monitors. Stupid fucks blame the sound guy, who tends to understand the actual physical or process. You need to get drunk and worry wether your song is worth a damn. The amount of times I have acted like I was adjusting audience levels by moving my hands to gesture, but not actually touching a pot, while asking" how's that" and getting a positive response is all the proof I need. Automatic mute means it shuts off it it’s not in use for a certain number of minutes. So if it’s inactive for an hour, it shuts off to save battery life

I stopped using my xvive. They would not activate tuner in line6 amp (No pedals)also on a korg multi effects pedal(from guitar into pdal). Now i just use them at home where i have a tune in line. However I have walked all the way through our church with no drop out till about 200 feet with full charge. But it was all line of sight.

There isn’t a Bluetooth wireless for bass/guitar that I know of. And if you did it would likely have latency. But if you have a speaker that accepts 1/4” or 1/8” you could use one of these types of wireless (you would need an adapter for the 1/8”)

It would help yes, but the best option is to just move it about 10 feet or more from the router. I've played shows where it DOES work next to a router, and I've played shows where it does NOT work next to a router. So just better to play it safe.

My experience with the G10..the micro usb port is weak and will break..had it happen twice, line6 replaced under warranty. It works great, even for gigs...but the USB port will break and the unitl will be unusable.

It can for sure depending on the lights. Remember that these are cheap wireless. You always can buy a nicer system by Shure or sennheiser if you need a much more reliable system.

Between these 3, my personal choice is the Boss WL20. However, I have now discovered the Ammoon 5.8ghz wireless system for only $65. It’s incredible and doesn’t transmit on 2.4ghz. Although Ammoon does have a 2.4ghz as well for $40. That 5.8ghz one is my favorite, but between the 3 in this video, the Boss one is my favorite.

I have had my Xvive for about 2 years. During that time it has worked very well. No dropouts or other issues. It fits my strat very well and is never in the way. HOWEVER, after 2 years the batteries are failing. I now don’t get even 2 hours of use per charge. The manufacturer tells me they cannot provide replacement batteries, nor will they service my unit. My only option is to buy a new set. Baloney with that. I am now researching other options. Both Boss and Line6 seem to have the same problem after they age a bit. (Read their forums.) Does anyone know of a good brand that uses replaceable batteries?

The fact that you got 2 years out of it I would consider a win. However, that is the way these built in batteries are designed. They can only be recharged so many times before they just don’t hold a charge anymore. To my knowledge there isn’t anyway around this. This is also why I recommend the $40-$60 Ammoon or Getaria models. $150 I feel is too high priced for something that will have to be replaced eventually. However, I do think getting 2 years out of it for $150 is not too bad. If you want to have a really good system that lasts basically forever (unless the frequency is bought by FCC), you’ll need to get ones that take an external AA or 9V battery... get those as rechargeable batteries, and then replace just the batteries every 1-2 years and keep the unit. That’s what I do with my sennheiser and Shure wireless. Hope that helps!

I used the xvive with no issues for about a year, no sound or tone loss......but after charging the batteries they started to lose charging capacity and eventually after a year or so the sound got crackly, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious way to replace the rechargeable batteries as it’s like a smartphone inside. I emailed support at xvive with no response. So unfortunately I had to bin them and I’m looking for new system that is more sustainable and won’t crap out on me. Great unit very simple but long term the batteries can’t retain charge

That’s the way some of these with built in batteries are. Any battery eventually doesn’t hold its charge when you recharge it enough. So you’ll have to get a new one when that happens. That’s part of buying cheap though

I bought a Relay G10 in December 2018 and the power port is a real killer. I have moved the unit to different locations for practice sessions maybe a dozen times in less than a year. I was aware that the USB port was exposed and potentially fragile (also it never quite "clicked" in place), so I was careful with it. Not careful enough, it seems, as it now frequently cuts out as the connexion is loose. Everything else about the device is great. But if it has no power, it's irrelevant. Supposedly Line 6 improved the design to be more sturdy in 2017. Well, I bought mine a year later and this one ain't sturdy. I would discourage anyone from buying one of these unless the unit you are looking at is definitely improved to feature a sturdy power connexion. Massive disappointment.

Agree that the G10 USB power connection is rubbish, not reliable enough for gigging. I got round it by using a clear epoxy glue to permanently fix the USB lead to the receiver, not pretty but it works! 🙂👍

use 900mhz ones beccaue the 2.4 and 5mhz are internet router signals and it will mess up and no one uses the 900 band anymore becauuse that was for cordless phones back in the day. That was the one thing i loved shopping for andd settting up and figurinng out all the bells and whisles they wouldd put on cordless phones. miss the late late 80s-2006 for phones. the only phonne i ever lost was my favorite still to this day and that was my sidekick. I swear if tmobile woould just make one with stock android and either speakers on the ends after it fips out and when it does there is another high def screenn that is the same size and you can do everything and yes it might have a slice though it unless they can get it to bend and twist that many times idk i just really hope a sidekick is comig out again and i can afford it also that another thing. needs to be like 600 bucks but not slow and slowly degrading junk. I know it will work becasue i can see most of it in my head i wish i had a 3d printer. Pretty sure there will be a line when the twe sreens meet but you will nneed that if you are using them sepertate but if you use them together your going to have to deal with the split but maybe it would be so thin it wont be that bad. wow sorry for going donwn the rabbit whole i just did

You have to have the base unit powered by the power cable for it to work. The transmitter on the guitar has a rechargeable battery inside it but the base unit does not. This is a constraint in the best of conditions, but a not a deal breaker. But it is a real pain when the micro USB port fails, and it seems they are famous for breaking. Mine cuts out because the connexion has become loose. Avoid.

The g-10 works good but it is easily broken. The plastic around the jack on the receiver breaks easy and then you will need a new one. the power connector is also kinda flaky and the box is a pain in the ass. Where do you put it. It becomes a problem sometimes.

I think Line 6 will eventually release one that is just the plug wireless transmitter and just the plug wireless receiver like a lot of these cheaper plug & play wireless companies are doing. That's my guess. I would pass on the G10 for now until they do something like that personally.

I just bought a cheap one from Guitaria ( I think all the cheap ones are the same one actually, it came in a box marked "Airbridge") it works Ok for forty bucks but I am playing through a Katana and I have been using a EVH preset that has a few effects including a flanger a boost and delay and when I plugged this in the noise level produced in the background went way up. so much I ad to kill the boost. So... I'm waiting for the next generation I guess.

My wife bought me one for an early Father’s Day present. Unfortunately I have WiFi in my house and so do my neighbors. WiFi renders the WL-50 completely useless. It cuts in and out constantly no matter how far I place the receiver from the router. Even when I turn my WiFi off this system starts cutting out as soon as I go to another room, even with line of sight. I’m probably going to have her return it if I can’t make it work properly. I feel bad because it was a gift but if it doesn’t work then I would rather my wife get her money back.

That's the problem with 2.4ghz unfortunately. Especially in that situation you cannot use it. It works great about 90% of the time, and for this price point that seems reasonable to me. But if you want a very reliable one, you gotta spend more unfortunately. But still, I use my WL20 a decent amount (or let other band members borrow them) with good results. We still use the WL20 to send click from our iPad (with lyrics and charts) to our ears as well. So it's a good investment!

I got a free G10 Relay with my Pod Go and my God the amount of noise I get when playing is crazy. I could be in an empty room and I hear 50% feedback noise and 50% guitar. I have Gibson Dirty Fingers and no active pups. Maybe that's why they're giving them away right now.

The Xvive does not work well with active pickups either. They have confirmed as much. I also have a buddy who owns the wl-50 and it does not pair nicely with active acoustic pickups.

For active pups and acoustic guitars with pre amps boss has the WL-50L model. It's basically the same thing, but designed for active guitars.

Yeah, the WL-20L is for active pickups but I haven't confirmed yet if it eliminates the interference. All I can find is that the cable simulation isn't on the L model.

@@5urg3x Oddly enough though, the G10 is 2.4 Ghz and I have never had an issue with it. Rock solid. I do think Line 6 needs to realize how good the G10 is an simply upgrade the power connection. It's such a simple modification but without it, the mini usb connection often breaks.

Scott Moreau You’ve gotten lucky. And yeah lol. I’ve looked into this and for manufacturers, for a USB Type-C connector, it’s only about a 20 cents more per unit cost on their end. And the connector is of much higher quality and will last orders of magnitudes longer. Sucks that not a lot of companies want to use them. Do you know if the g10 has replaceable batteries? That’s the problem with the Boss one, they use a proprietary non user replaceable battery, so when the battery dies on just one of them, it becomes a $200 plastic brick / paperweight. Horrible move on the part of Boss.

I have a wireless security camera system at my home. It uses 2.4ghz. I also have 2 dual band routers with 2.4 and 5 ghz. I have the xvive U2. I seldom get drop outs, but... it DOES interfere with my security cameras..... EVERYTIME. Why has NO ONE developed a 5ghz wireless guitar system? 5ghz is a MUCH wider band of the spectrum and MUCH less susceptible to interference.

the mini usb input in the line6 is not premium quality, and the connection becomes pretty wonky over time. also, the firmware upgrade line6 released last year will Destroy your unit. Do not do the firmware update. Just don’t.

Xvive U2 sucks. I have had 3 pairs. First went dead pretty soon and they sent me new ones. Receiver went dead, couldnt charge it anymore and I bought new ones. Now its up to luck if they work or not. Thats why I ended up to this video, looking for new/better ones than Xvive U2. I finally believe that they really dont work even I like them otherwise.

Some people have great luck with them and others don’t. Mine worked well for a while, but eventually didn’t

WHY WHY WHY would they use 2.4 Ghz!? UGH! Wifi signals are ubiquitous, that spectrum is just way to overcrowded. Sigh...

Nick K I agree. I don’t know how it works, but it seems easiest to make these plug and play ones on 2.4ghz. As soon as they make one that is in the 400/500mhz I’m getting one. My Shure PGX (the old ones) always work. I have 3 of them because of it. These are really nice for traveling and to just throw in your guitar case. They work great 80%-90% of the time. But they are unpredictable. I used it yesterday at a gig where it has ALWAYS worked and it wouldn’t work for more than 3 minutes. Wireless is weird and you get what you pay for. These are great for the price

2.4Ghz is more affordable (right now) to produce. So these lower end wireless systems commonly use it. But I agree, it’s a shame. The more expensive systems are much more reliable

I believe the main idea of using 2.4GHz is that it is license free and can be used worldwide unlike most other frequencies.

Stefan Sjöberg You’re right, but that’s the reasons why it’s so overcrowded haha. There’s gotta be some solution that doesn’t involve dropouts that doesn’t require huge expensive transmitters like a Shure wireless system. Even Bluetooth is capable of low latency and high quality audio with proper encoding. I’ve never tried the AptX-LL standard but it was designed for gaming and to have sub 30ms latency I believe.

Just found that Ammoon makes one on 5.8ghz. Pretty awesome, and I’ve used it multiple times with no problems so far

MicroUSB is a shite connector. Wish mfg's would start using Type-C. IT's only a few cents more per connector for them, bought in bulk, and will last a LOT longer.

i have the line6 g70 and the micro usb power is the biggest pain in my ass in th world. wh ythe hell would anyone do this

Nick K only the G10 receiver needs to be plugged in while playing. The Xvive and Boss need to be powered via micro usb, but neither the receiver or the transmitter need to be plugged in while performing.

@@5urg3x Both micro USB and USB C by themselves are not a good idea for gigging, they are too fragile. The next gen G10, the G10s has an additional standard DC power connector, which is more robust and able to plug into standard pedalboard 9V DC power supplies.

Stay away from xvive. Won't last for more than 1 year, awful support and a terrible experience for the price you pay. There are cheaper options with better quality.

The xvive did eventually not work as well for me… but I use many of their products and they are quite good. The IEM system is good for the price. 2.4ghz is the least reliable, but for the price of some of them I think they are decent. However, for the U2 I do agree that $150 is expensive when you can get another 2.4ghz system for $40-$50.

I don’t really do tone comparisons in my videos. I think we waste too much time listening to A:B comparisons with headphones in a studio… when in reality using it live and using it in a mix is more important. If you can get a useable tone out of it, that’s what I want to know… and then tweak it from there. That’s my opinion. Probably should have done a tone demo in this video, but I didn’t… but I have in other videos.
