This video introduces the definitive guide book for building the RotaryMek-10X rubber band machine gun, one of the world's most advanced rubber band gun designs!
Building this rubber band gun is a complex, time-consuming woodworking project. Although successful completion of this project does not require particularly sophisticated woodworking techniques, the builder will need to have access to and be able to skillfully use a number of different tools, including a drill press, band saw, and computer-based scanner and printer.
The end result of this project is a rubber band gun unlike any other, a truly fully automatic, rapid-firing, rubber band machine gun!
In a manner analogous to a real machine gun, the mechanism of the RotaryMek-10X is driven by energy derived from the same source as that which propels the projectiles--the elastic potential energy of the stretched rubber band ammunition loaded onto the gun. There's no crank, no motor... just a trigger and a can of whoop-ass!
If properly constructed from high-quality materials, the RotaryMek-10X can be loaded with as many as seventy size 33 rubber bands at one time. The gun develops an extremely high rate of fire (think of a Minigun), but it also has a responsive trigger system, allowing an operator to choose between firing many short bursts or just letting rip, "fire-hose-style."
Please note that this project calls for the use of US-standard dimensional lumber as well as two different sizes of US-standard PVC plumbing pipe. Prospective builders outside the United States might first want to check the availability of the needed materials before committing to the project.

(cont.) 3-1/2-inches equals about 89 mm, and 2-7/8-inches equals about 73 mm. If your locally available standardized pipe sizes are very close to these sizes ( for instance, 90 mm and 70 mm), it should be possible to make them work. I can assist with doing this if a someone tells me the external diameters of the pipe they want to use.

Thanks again. There is one other type of mechanism that I am aware of. There is a video of a wooden replica of an FN P90 rubber band gun that uses this other mechanism. I like it because it uses replaceable magazines and can be switched between full-auto and semi-auto. It's limitation seems to be that the ammunition capacity for each magazine is only about sixteen rubber bands. The Yeti30 is an example of a similar mechanism but without removable magazines.

Yes, it is a fairly complicated project. Later this year I hope to publish a second book providing instructions and templates for several somewhat simpler classic rubber band gun designs.

I love this gun more than other gatling gun designs because it doesn't need a motor, just tension from the rubberbands. You are a genius! :)

You should be able to cut out the deflection support plates, barrel support plates, trigger slide plate, trigger guide plate, stand plate, retention disks and stand disk from a single 1/2 x 12 x 24 inch sheet of birch plywood. The foregrips, deflection support block, barrel support block and frame base can all come from a single 4 foot length of 3/4 x 1-1/2 inch stock. The rear-grip, barrel tube end-plugs and deflection tube end-plugs can all come from a 2 foot piece of 3/4 x 3-1/2 inch stock.

Yeah, I've seen that too. Kind of funny. I'm guessing the seller hopes to sell to somebody in a part of the world where there's no access to any of the Amazon websites. For such people, I've though I should maybe start offering the book directly from me through my Etsy page, where I could list it as a craft supply and even offer it autographed if somebody wanted.

You might look for cottonwood, aspen or solid birch. I believe these woods are similar to poplar for woodworking purposes. That said, I'm not an expert on all the different types of wood out there, and if you are in the UK, it might be that what you have to choose from is different that what I see in Alaska. It would be a good idea to ask at the shop what would be comparable. Walmart may have the bamboo skewers. Make sure you find ones that are the right diameter, as described in the book.

The suggested retail is actually higher, but Amazon likes to offer a healthy discount. The book is printed by Createspace Publishing, which is actually part of Amazon, so I guess they choose to price it just a bit above their printing cost.

Recently, a viewer posted a question comment that for some reason seems to have been automatically removed by youtube. The question pertained to my statement in the video/book description related to building materials needed for the project. The book's instructions call for using certain standardized building materials that are available in the US, but may or may not be available in other countries. (cont.)

The ten barrel armatures could come from three 4 foot lengths of 5/8 inch dowel or four 3 foot lengths. The lever-arms can come from two 3 or 4 foot 3/8 inch dowels. A few inches of 1/2 inch dowel are needed for embedding in the rear grip and deflection support block. In my experience, bamboo skewers, such as used to make the transverse axle-rods of the lever-arm assemblies, come in a package dozens, so you'll have lots left over for barbeque. Hope that helps.

Thats awesome thanks, making a shopping list for tomorrow! Which wood do you recommend for the stock? Seems hard to get hold of poplar in the UK So I need 1 x 1/2 x 12 x 24 inch sheet of birch plywood. 1 x 4 foot x 3/4 x 1-1/2 inch stock. 1 x 2 foot x 3/4 x 3-1/2 inch stock. 3 x 4 foot - 5/8 inch dowel 2 x 4 foot - 3/8 inch dowels. 1 x 1 foot - 1/2 inch dowel Packet of Bamboo skewers - guessing I get this from somewhere like walmart?

Of course, I recomend the guns that I have for sale! My newest is the Select-fire Rubber Band Carbine. It's basically like a compact rubber band assault rifle and can shoot semi or fully automatic! I have a video demonstrating it on my channel and a link to my Etsy store page.

Sort of; no cartridges are ejected, but the energy to propel the projectile is actually stored within the projectile, rather than next to it. And of course it's mechanical/elastic potential energy rather than chemical p.e.

(cont.) If the availaible PVC pipe sizes in your country are very close to the sizes used in the book, it may be possible to substitute them by making some minor adjustments to the design. Several people who have already built the gun have done this. The two different US-standard pipe sizes called for in the book are "3-inch" and "2-1/2-inch" These are in fact just the nominal pipe sizes, and the actual external diameters are 3-1/2-inches and 2-7/8-inches, respectively (cont.)

Am looking to build this, have bought the book but am unsure as to how much wood to use. Do you have overall measurements for the poplar and plywood needed so I can go to the shop to pick it up?

to my knowledge this is the only fully automatic rubber band gun that is fully automatic in a controlled way (rather than all or nothing) in a purely mechanical fashion. You deserve it.

Add mass to the magazine-oscillator--make it longer or drill out the bottom and install some weights, like tungsten pinewood derby weights.
