Experience Dyslexia® is a simulation in which participants are guided through six activities that help them understand the challenges and frustrations faced by individuals with language-based learning differences. After completing the activities, the participants have an opportunity to discuss what they have learned from their experience. The workshop is led by Directors of IDA Austin and facilitated by volunteers, many of whom are experts in the field of dyslexia awareness and education, and all of whom have a specific and special connection to individuals with dyslexia. Our Directors and volunteers are available to answer questions and provide direction and resources to participants.

I have Dyslexia. I watched the video to see how accurate it was. The simulation is really clever. I found it to be exactly like my experiences being taught to read and write at school.

This is pulling me right back to 4th grade. This is spot on on how I struggled growing up, and still struggling in a professional setting. Still feel exactly the same.

I can not read several peer reviewed papers I authored and presented at the National Academy of Science. What I did was put pictures, in the paper. I "read" from picture to picture. When I need to read dense technical papers my trick is to speed read down the middle of the page; reread at places that catch my attention. When our son grumbled that he did not like sounding out words, in third grade. I gave him permission to fail. We also bought him Magic Cards with very complex words, rules and images. He told us he memorized words. His teacher was surprised because his reading improved from 2nd grade to above 6th grade level by the end of third grade. The trick of just memorizing words is never mentioned.

Oh my goodness. I need to share this with my kid’s teachers. I can’t believe that he can spend an entire day in school like this. I’m so grateful to his educational therapist and for all of his accommodations. I’m so proud of how hard he works despite all of his challenges. Thank you for this amazingly insightful video.

This is very clever. It really helps demonstrate the struggles Dyslexia can produce, in a very accessible way

Curious if you're familiar with primary dyslexia, secondary dyslexia and acquired dyslexia. Would love a video that. Many YT videos on that briefly explain the types but would love a deeper video.
