The developer explain how he created Pac-Man in RTX for Android and how his laptop died in the process. Before that, he would like to apologize for the delay in uploading another video, as he has been busy ruining his life by dropping out of school and moving to Bulgaria. Obviously, he is alone here and does not understand the language. However, his life was not very different in Spain, so socially he is the same, but economically better. To start the game, the first thing he did was sketch out how Pac-Man should look, and this is what he came up with. Next, he modeled Pac-Man by sculpting it with millions of polygons and then performing retopology to reduce the number of polygons. He also added drool to Pac-Man and used vertex colors, as you can see, one area is green and another is red. This will help him separate things later, which he will explain. After rigging and animating Pac-Man, he had to texture it. He simply created a fleshy texture for Pac-Man and the interior, as it should be. Finally, he rendered it. But now there is a problem: how does he put this into the game? In his channel, he has only created two types of games: pre-rendered and real-time rendered. Pre-rendered games consist of images and are lightweight, generally running on your mobile, unlike real-time rendered games, which are 3D models with real-time lighting. He wanted his Pac-Man to be fully 3D, but if he makes a 3D game for Android, he will be limited since he cannot use realistic lighting. So, he wondered, what if he combines pre-rendered with 3D? He introduces you to matcaps. Matcaps are textures that you can apply to a model and follow the camera's position, giving a realistic lighting effect. With that said, he rendered a matcap of Pac-Man and applied it. Now he has this 3D Pac-Man that retains some realism and is much lighter than the Pac-Man that needs to be rendered since it does not use any light information, meaning a mobile can run it. However, there is a problem: there is only one matcap. So, he also rendered a matcap for the interior area and one for the drool. But now, how does he add them? If you are a developer, you probably thought he could make two materials, one for the exterior area and another for the interior. If you thought this, he just wants to say that you are wrong because this is inefficient. Remember the vertex colors he added earlier? He can take the green area and multiply it by the yellow matcap and take the red area and multiply it by the tongue matcap. Thanks to this, he has two textures in just one material. Finally, he added an ambient occlusion texture. Now it's time to texture the drool, and as you can see, it also has vertex colors, but the drool only has one texture. This time, he will use vertex colors to assign transparency, making red vertices invisible and green vertices opaque. With this, he would have Pac-Man finished, in 3D but with pre-rendered textures. Now it's time to transfer it to Unity. To do this, he had to create a project in Unity. Unity offers three render pipelines: Built-In, URP, and HDRP. Built-In is old and obsolete. URP is new and designed for performance, and HDRP aims to have the best graphics. He went for Built-In. URP is designed for performance, but for some reason, they say it runs worse than Built-In. And HDRP is useless to him since he will not use lights; his game will be completely unlit so that it runs on a mobile. With the project created, he added Pac-Man and had to recreate the same shader he made in Blender. This is the result. It does not look as RTX as the rendered Pac-Man, but it's something. Now it's time to program it. He made it so that when you slide your finger across the screen, Pac-Man shoots raycasts in the direction you have slid. That is, if you are moving down a hallway and slide down, the raycasts will go down, but nothing will happen since they are hitting the wall. As soon as the three raycasts stop hitting a wall, Pac-Man will turn in the direction of the raycasts. With this done, he thinks he can now create the stage. First, he modeled a wall. Now there is a problem: the wall looks ugly in the game. It has no shine. So, he had to add bloom. But now there is another problem: the game runs poorly, and the default Unity bloom is very slow. So, Luis gave him a bloom script that works much better than Unity's.
