OMG!!!! 😍Believe in Yourself was going to rank as one of my runner ups cause I loved the story telling of that video and the song was upbeat and uplifting; but it was a hard decision to make compared to the others. Jem is truly an awesome series that I don't think can be replicated. They would have to be very careful with it should they try to remake it.
Kimber and Jerrica's father originally created Synergy to be like their mother. Then changed it because it was too painful. She was supposed to be a guide or a mother figure for them to confide in as well as get advice from.
im probably way younger than the ppl in the comments but i literally love this show. I love how they actually made the misfits compitition and not absolutly terrible like almost every other show. makin mischief is my fav song😭
I'm just glad that this show is appreciated by the younger generation, which shows that music with good storytelling is the perfect combination. Making mischief was the fourth runner up for my top 10 favorite misfits songs 😁
THANK YOU!! I feel it can work if they were to remake it, BUT it has to be done right. Don't give the crappy live action they destroyed it. Make it animated, but not simple animation it still has to be complex like in vox machina, the 2016 voltron or Dota: Dragon's blood. Next, the music would have to be something nostalgic but edgy so it gets the new people into it but make us old schoolers reminisce. Most of all story has to be on point and not steer off to anything that will turn people off to it. Jem to me, was about the love of music with a never ending loop of will she won't she with Rio and other soap opera stuff for kids. If they focus on that it will be dare I say "truly outrageous"
@@JustAnAverageGirl83 chefs kiss to everything you SAID! The animation would need to be advanced like you said and I honestly feel like when Jem came out it was ahead of it's time yet current. Especially with the fashion and the use of synergy (Now AI and technology in general has come a long way). I really loved that Jem was able to have that soap opera feel but also have a lot of action and display real world stories as well, which attracted some boys like me to watch. I feel like they need to keep that in a possible remake as well without coming off cheesy. It's definitely possible though and imagine if the new songs were genre bending??!! It's so funny bc I still think the old series aged pretty well, even the songs!
@DateDylan Damn! I was just thinking that too. A friend of mine introduced me to an artist who mixed rap with string orchestra playing in the background it blew my mind to how good it was so yes I wouldn't mind listening to new ways to bring music to life. I'm also glad that this show didn't steer you away from stereotypical people that would say otherwise if you watched a female themed show. I grew up watching transformers and g.i Joe as a kid and wanted the toys cause insaw it was waaay better than my Malibu barbie which the only thing that transformed was her hair in water 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Wr need shows like jem and the holograms again. It has everything a music fan loves. I'm an early 90s baby and like many I grew up on reruns of 80s cartoons. They should've at least given jem and the holograms a proper ending.
I was so sure that "This Is Farewell," the one by Jem And The Holograms, The Misfits, and The Stingers would be #1, since it reflected a well-deserved happy ending for Ba Nee and her dad.
Though "Farewell" is a beautiful tear jerker of a song. In my opinion, "Can't get my love together" was the first Jem song I heard when I rediscovered the show during my military days and brought me back to the world of glitter, fashion, and fame. Good choice of song you picked.
Jem was a women and not a teen ! Witch made it much better ! Wish they get this reboot right for us true fans !!! I learned so many good lessons from the show . I had a choice. Be a misfit or a hologram ! I have had to be a misfit a few times in my life but always was a hologram !!! She paved the way for me to be nice and polite to people !!! And doing the right honest thing will take you far in life !!!
Yes, I was not pleased with the live action either as you saw in the video lol. To me, Jem felt like a soap opera but for kids. I agree! Should they do a remake, I too hope they have life lessons that will encourage people to be more kinder, this world needs it more than ever.

This show punched so far above it's weight music-wise it's unreal! The importance of the distinct voices of Britta Phillips as Jem and Ellen Bernfeld as Pizzazz can't be overstated, but a shoutout to Ford Kinder and Anne Bryant as composers and Barry Herman as lyricist seems apt.
I agree. Should Hasbro think about touching this, what would you hope they would (should) do? Cause personally I don't want another debacle like the live action. 😖
I literally discovered “Jem & the Holograms” last year thanks to the Instagram algorithm. 😅 I immediately was enamoured with its music, visual, characters, storyboard etcetera. The 80’s music and cartoons just hit different. I also both the entire DVD collection and I enjoy it to the max! Agree 100% about your sentiment of 80s songs and cartoons. I wish modern cartoons still employed that realistic animation style seen in shows such as this one and Captain Planet. Obviously, the more modern simplistic styles are easier to animate, but some of the charm is lost, imo.

Great video, there's so many good songs in this show! "I believe in happy endings" is one of my favorite songs I'm glad it made the runner ups. I also really like "I'm Okay", "Like a Dream", "I like your style", and "It depends on the mood I'm in"
I know! So many to choose from, what's beautiful is when they resonate with yourself cause it makes it personal and uplifting. Cause for a time the song "I'm okay" was my jam cause I dealt with crap in the past but I'm better than okay now and that's why I love these songs. 🥰

But because I was also basing it on animation quality and if its something that will live rent free in my headspace....it was really hard to pick just 10..if I had a top 20 then there would've been so much more lol. I listen to Jem's songs in English and Portuguese. So I put "(Both versions)" in the songs I like, the Brazilian version and the original in English 1 - "Listen Up" (Both versions) 2 - "How Does it Feel" (Both versions) 3 - "I Got My Eye on You" (Both versions) 4 - "Who Is She, Anyway?" (Both versions) 5 - "Gimmie a Gimmick" 6 - "You Oughta See The View From Here" (Both versions) 7 - "When It's Only Me And The Music" 8 - "Music is Magic" 9 - "Takin' It All" (Both versions) 10- "Love Is Here" (Both versions) It was a hard list to make, only 10 songs is too little hahaha I'm a Misfits fan

The Jem Brasil channel will post Jem clips in Portuguese again, it has a good dubbed Jem content. In the last video of the channel he showed a little of what is to come. Stormer is also my favorite, I really like how she cares about her friends and knows when Pizzaz and Roxy cross the line
Been a while since I found a good Jem and the Hologram's video review focusing on the music videos. I'm younger and the music from this series definitely speaks to me. Ironically because I'm in the UK when they released it on VHS here they basically condensed the first season into one long movie and cut short some of the music videos as a result. (I am a millenial, so I kind of had it in the inbetweeny stage of stuff transitioning from video to DVDs.) I remember whenever I was sick, I would watch the Jem movie and just jam to all the songs because I loved it. Especially the finale song.
Excellent! Ironically, glitter and gold is the final song in the first season. Though it's not one of my top 10 or runner ups, I still love it for when she get up to that high-pitched tone, hence the glass shattering scene I did😂. Then you for sharing your memories.
@@JustAnAverageGirl83 maybe it's because they cut the songs. But i never heard Glitter and Gold until YEARS later. I don't think it was on the UK video version. The film always stopped right after the Music is Magic music video. Because you can see Eric get arrested during that scene. So it's technically a story resolved in a movie sense. Although I never understood why the first scene started out in Jem going into a flashback and then we never get a scene that went back to the present where the flashback happened. Then I realised years later that it was a cut together compilation of first season episodes I saw made into a film. 😅 Either way, I waa still mad about so many songs like the opening. 'Getting down to business', congratulation, making mischief and others.

I'm Brazilian Nelson, I watched the Jem and the Holograms cartoon that was shown on TV many years ago on the TVS or SBT channel (Brazilian television system) in the 90s children's program. I liked the Jem cartoon because of the first opening of the Jem's song and then the other very beautiful songs. A hug.

Hey, I really liked the video, filled me with nostalgia ❤😁❤ here’s my top 10. Top 10: 10-Winning is everything 9-Believe, don’t believe 8-Abracadabra 7-I like your style 6-When it’s only me and the music 5-I’m okay 4-Real Me 3-Like a dream 2-It depends on the mood I’m in 1-Let’s Blow this town My explanations: 10- This song is one of the first we hear from the Misfits; it shows the way they’ll act all throughout the show while being catchy. The only thing that sets this tune so low is it’s animation (It’s far from the worse animations of the show but it misses a je ne sais quoi). 9- This is the first time I saw and heard the Stingers and it became my favorite! One of the best collab in between groups. 8- Really catchy, the spells are cool and Stormer’s scene where she’s charging her spell is extremely well drawn. 7- First song and time we see Jetta. It was her time to shine and she sure did. The fact that the sax is so strong in this song is one heck of an entrance and definitely what makes this songs one of the best. 6- As you already said this song encapsulates extremely well the feeling of being in your own little bubble and Dancer’s first appearance definitely made this song better. 5- This song is up here because of it’s beautiful message and honestly it’s quite charming how two members of opposite bands can go oh so well together. Definitively a breath of fresh air. 4- Really catchy and it pretty much sums up Jem and Jerrica’s dynamics. Kind of like teasing the truth in everybody’s faces which is really Jem-like. 3- One of Jem’s classic, always nice to hear and as I said earlier for the last one: it shows Jem’s character really well, just a dream. 2- Extremely catchy and really fun use of the holograms (as in not for plot but used just for fun). Changing outfits left and right is really nice animation wise. 1- Catchy, shows their character the car animation and let’s not forget the can-» bowling ball -» Pool transition is insane!!!

Just came across this vid. Definitely have different taste in music then you, not sure I'd put any of those in my top ten, but I sadly have yet to see the full show. Also fun fact I'm a guy who grew up watching some of this. (I didn't care about stupid gender labels even back then) Still not sure if that might be a factor of my tastes. I can say ONE song that is on my list as I have it on my song playlist on my phone for when going to and from work: Deception. I love that song so much. I love it's sound, I love the feeling she gives in singing it. My fav songs would definitely lean more toward that style.

I loved watching your video and I’m going to be honest with you, I started watching Jem and the holograms again and really listening to there music and I can say relate to the songs now. It’s amazing how there songs do touch our lives in so many ways and I’m so happy that I have started watching the episodes again.

I’m 43 years old and I still love this show. My sister and I used to take our little tape recorders and tape all the songs and then make mixed tapes with them. When I was a teen, I’d dance to several of these songs and had some complex routines. This show and these songs are still among my favorites…❤
I can’t dance to save my life😂. But for you to come up with brilliant routines is an amazing feature to have rediscovered Jem during my military days, which were around the times of mini mp3 players and I'd play them in the gym to keep me hyped.
It would be so Outrageous if Hollywood would let people who were actually Fans of the series and who respected the show and fans be allowed to do a Jem and the Holograms movie. Personally I think they would have to do a few things. Because of the social media they would kind of have to set it in the 80s-2010, to show a story of a woman struggling to run a music company in the Male Dominated music industry. They HAVE to have Jerrica using her Jem Star earrings and Synergy. And not make her a clear attempt to sell a toy. Have Jerrica struggle with the responsibility of her duel identity. Have Starlight House. And Have the Misfits as a rival almost from the go. (And depending on when it’s set, maybe have the Misfits see a poster for the real life Mistfits and call the “Posers”)
Sometimes its not for us. They try to attract those who don't watch tv at all to try and relate to them. That's what happened in the early 200s when Disney, Nickelodeon, and even Cartoon Network tried to introduce Live Action Tween /Teen related shows cause at that time. They were the popular group of people, then the nerds took over thanks to marvel and once again Hollywood decides to cash in on that too. Thank you for checking out my video

As someone heavily invested in the lore of Jem, Emmett Benton programmed Synergy with the memories and recording of his late wife Jacqui. It was probably a goof, but at some point Synergy shows Kimber childhood memories. How would Synergy know that if they only discovered her in the first episode? And apparently, she's also the influence behind Mars Flame Sniper.
That's the joy of the 80s. Most of the time, the show's rationality of things never made sense sometimes. that's why I love it. 😂 Yea, I can see the sailor moon reference now. 🤯 Good eye.
I came across your channel while looking for Jem Covers because I was listening to the new Gunship song that has Britta Philips singing on it called "Holographic Heart" which is funny because I didn't know she was going to be on the album & my roommate was playing the new album but on the Digital Deluxe the name credit said "Feat. Jem & Tim Cappello" i kind of laughed & was like wow that would be cool if they really got Britta to sing on that figuring 80's reference synthwave & all that but to find out the next day it is actually her was so cool also OMG 1:53 you made me laugh so hard i choked thank you for that🤣

Literally, it’s just Jerrica singing, but nobody knows that because she’s always hiding behind her on stage Person , which is Jem but honestly out of all the three bands stingers worked the way for me no poor misfits everything was just handed to them. Jared is literally the backbone in their band and in their actual lives she’s a business woman she runs and orphanage for girls she is the singer for the band and a song writer and it’s one person. No wonder she ran away with Riot on that island. She was stressed out. Also, I thought that dance was another version of Jem or she was an honorary member of the holograms.
Yes, when you buy the series from shout factory (please stay away from the Rhino set, their box is terrible) each disc has a "Jem" jukebox in the menu where it plays all songs from all performers based on the season and episode that disc contains.
Yes! Most of their songs have two versions, this version, to me, got me pumped cause I felt it was the beginning of everything for their career not so their first song "Only the beginning" cause thats them saying we're just getting started. Here they're like "we made it" The cleverness about the second version is that they made it fit the song especially with the two magicians that fell in love. Thank you for sharing.☺
8:45 Synergy was programmed by Emmet Benton with Jacqui's voice - his late wife as well as Jerrica/Jem and Kimber's mother. He did it using the master tapes of a recorded concert she did before she died in a plane crash. He also programmed Synergy with her likeness - even though he couldn't bare for Synergy to look exactly like Jacqui, so he altered her a bit. (Season 2, Episode 25, "Out of the Past") Tinkering with electronics has always been my passion, I've become a PC hardware tech, and Synergy was an early inspiration :)
I did like Set your Sails. Its a lovely ballad. In my opinion though the animation and music was flowing and beautiful, it doesn't pop in my head often as the ones I mentioned in the video. However, if I did a top 20 it would be #15.
Enjoyed this show years ago and showed this to my daughter she loves it. My top 3 episodes are Talent Search(both parts), Roxy’s Rumble, Trick or Techrat. Far songs go: Only the Beginning, Fun to be Scared, Out of My Way, I Like Your Style, I’m Gonna Change.

Taking it All and Welcome to the Jungle for The Misfits. Jem Girl, Music is Magic, and She Makes an Impression are my favourites for Jem and the Holograms. I just started rewatching the show on Tubi. I haven't seen it since I was a 6 year old boy. This show single-handedly made me want to be a fashion designer. I never made it that far into art (I had other callings) but I'm so surprised how well this how has held up for me.
@ZehnWaters My friend, ive learned in life. There's nothing stopping you but yourself. Went to school for animation (didn't do much for me when the recession hit) the skills I've learned o use for my videos, and I continue to learn. I also love to write, and I'm trying to get a YA novel going that I was terrified to show. I have the 1st draft online which brought traction and the chance to work for Webnovel, but I'm not ready just yet so I'm fleshing it out more. Like art, fashion is what you want it to be and taking from one of Jem's songs "It all depends on the mood you're in." What ever you do, I hope you follow your dreams, just take small steps at a time. 😉

You are correct. I personally love the visual and audio aspects of Jem and their songs. To me, it's easy to pick songs without visual cues. "Like a dream" is another of my favorites, and I find it soothing to the ears, but when I added the visuals from the show (either versions), my thought process changed. To me, I feel the animation uplifts the songs and especially those that were meaningful in my life. I like your selections, I f i did a top 20 "set your sails" would be there. Same with "surprise surprise." As for Destiny from the Stinger's, that is my #4 for my top 5 favorite singer songs video.
@@JustAnAverageGirl83 The visuals for some of the earlier songs are horrendous due to budget as I'm sure you are aware xD Basically the first 5 episodes ( Battle of the Bands ) Musically, I have to say a couple of songs stick out musically. Definitely "Glitter and Gold" for Britta's wicked high pitch at the end and the guitar work on "Come On In the Water's Fine" the riff during the chorus is nuts!

That song was rockin and to hear Bretta sing her heart out in that was beautiful , and though the animation was a lot better than the first 5 episodes, the visual wasn't enough to push it through. "Music is magic" though the visual is crappy beyond compare the music saved it cause it's true music is magical in a sense that compliments the mood that we're in. Glitter and gold, I just love hearing Bretta belt that high pitch part. Cause it feels impossible for anyone to reach that high 😂

@nastycanadian1975 some not all, I have spoken to people here who have introduced their children to it, and they love it. In this day and age, the taste for shows varies. I don't know of my taste has changed but I've always loved a good story, memorable characters and fantastic visuals to top the icing on the cake.movoes and shows of the 80s,90s had them and some 2000s-2010s were far a few. Infinity train to me is a brilliant example of a show that deserved to be completed...but that's just me

@JustAnAverageGirl83 YES! It needs a blu-ray release. It's tough to watch the DVD. I had the songs playing today& it made me so happy. I actually wanna review season 1 on my channel.
Here is an interesting factoid that a lot of people don't know. Jim is the most recorded artist currently in the world. Even though she is fictional, the company that made her Mattel had several cassettes. They made for girls to sing along too. When they were jamming out and there are so many songs. It is ridiculous. So if she were a real person, she would have more recordings and songs. Then most living people or dead.

@@JustAnAverageGirl83 I must admit my love for cartoons made me watch Jem. The music just grabbed me. I even gave the entire series on DVD. The live action movie was so terrible, I barely lasted til the end. One RU-vidr went to see it and the entire theater was empty. To think, Rocketeer was death at the boxoffice. Jem was a ghost town by comparison.
@jasonhightower5706 wait Disney's Rocketeer was empty?!🤯 I thought it was a good movie. I never saw it in the theaters but when it was one TV, it was pretty cool.

I’m a guy and loved Jem and the Holograms growing up. Back in I think 2003, I managed to pick up Jem on DVD. It really took me back. When my niece was 3 I started showing her different shows from when her dad and I were kids (she’s 7 now). She instantly loved Gummi Bears, She-Ra, DuckTales, and most of all Jem and the Holograms. She loved it so much she would sing the songs and if I said or did something she liked she will still almost always exclaim “Outrageous!”
All of that...I love it!!!! Personally, I don't think it should matter whether you're a guy that likes a show that is female driven. That's pretty much saying that because I am a woman, I should not like G1 transformers, G.I Joe or Captain N the game master. I started out playing with Barbie dolls but when I saw my brother with an action figure that can transform in to a freakin' car, I was sold. Lol But I'm so happy that you introduced your niece to the wonderful world of nostalgic 80s cartoons. I hope you introduce her to Gargoyles, she would love that series.
@@JustAnAverageGirl83 Thank you. I also have let her play with some of my old Masters of the Universe figures. And when she was 5 I showed her my old Voltron figure, it was funny watching her try to pick it up, not realizing it’s mostly metal so it was heavier than she thought it would be. I do plan on introducing her to Gargoyles when she’s a bit older and can appreciate it the way it should be. I’ve had the complete series on DVD for years.

Oh how I miss it, especially when they had VHS' tapes on sale they no longer wanted. That's how I found the first few episodes of Kissyfur for $5 and it's still in great condition.
