OMG!!!!!!! Thank you so much! I lived here in 1993 from May to August in the Alcide hotel. Strange time. Big corruption scandals, many arrests of Italian officials. Mafia retaliated with bombs in Florence. The entire country went on strike the next day. And while all this is going on, I was working in a machine shop there and the owner was worried Italy was going to get hit with a scud missile from Yugoslavia, which is right across the Adriatic Sea, because that war was in full swing. And all that happened in the 3-months I was there. I researched that time period in italy and the italians had a name for it, I can't remember the name, but what was happening was basically it was legalized bribery going on in the Italian government and almost all political parties were doing it. It destroyed the Christian Democrat party. As you can tell I love history. Italy has the best beaches on the planet!
