I’m sorry about this I didn’t expect anyone to want to know what thermometer I was using to check my iron. You can get it on Amazon it is an inexpensive infrared thermometer. Surprisingly I use it for more than QSH testing and experiments…my husband also uses it around the house. 😂 Infrared Thermometer amzn.to/3PDTPRR

Thank you so much for this explanation, I’m doing everything wrong, last year I had severe yellowing, which I have been trying to grow out, and yesterday, after using a curling iron on the front of my hair ( where the yellowing occurred) when I released the curling iron, that section of hair was a bright prinkish purple!!! I tried to wash it out, thinking it was something topical, but no, my bangs are now purple, mixed with the yellow of previously. But now I understand why, my iron is way too hot, it is the hair around the front of my face, and the heat protectant I use is not of a good quality. I curl my hair with a hot iron every day!!! Too bad it took me so long to discover how I really should be doing this. THANK YOU!!!!

OH NO!!! My guess is coupled with the high heat you may have products with vitamin C in them. The pink thing is often a chemical reaction. Look at the product and see if it has ascorbic acid in it. I’m so sorry that happened. Thank you for being here and I’m glad I could help, I’m sorry I was a day late. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

Another great video! I have very curly, graying hair, that I occasionally blowout, for a predictable hair day…. If you know - you know, as I live in a very tropical climate. Upon an earlier recommendation, from one of your videos, I purchased the Seen blowout cream and get the BEST and longest lasting, blowout ever. The worst product I have ever used that not only didn’t protect hair, but made my scalp itch was the heavily recommended Pureology.
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing that. I picked the Pureology because I see it recommended it ALL the time and I thought it would be perfect since I had no experience with it. It smells terrible. I may put your quote with it on the website. Maybe people will quit using it. Thanks for watching! 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

Same! Like a lot of comments here, I'm very interested in the UV protection and it helps to know which ingredients are UV protective. I wore a top-open sun hat for gardening last summer, and am pretty sure that's what caused damage in my white stripe.

I used hot rollers on my silver hair and the ends turned yellow/ tan😮. I will have to have it cut off and I will never use them again. I did use heat protectant, but it didn’t stop the discolouration.
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 17 дней назад
@@robertadaniel3676 I’m sorry this happened. It sounds like the ends of your hair are weaker than the rest of the length of your hair (which is usually the case especially if your hair is on the longer side). This weakness can make your hair more susceptible to being dry, grabbing products and staining can occur, and more prone to heat and UV damage. And…the rollers were getting way too hot. I hope your hair is on the way to health again. Be well.

Do you have any recommendations for a heat protectant/ spf product that isn’t as greasy as these are? My hair is pure white, thin, fine and very straight. I tried using the Seen product and it made my hair flat and limp with no body at all. So much is written about white hair being coarser when it grows in. This has not been my experience at all and I really need something to use as summer approaches and I will be outside more.

Which Seen product did you try? The blowout cream is a bit heavier than the Curl Cream. You may like the curl Creme even if you have straight hair. Many of the UV filters for hair products are natural oils, that’s why so many have an oilier texture. Check out HairStory, they have one for finer hair. hairstory.com/products/dressed-up

Thanks for another great video! Did I miss it? Looking at the Seen Magic Serum to replace my not curly approved current choice. My super fine thin wavy grey requires no glycerin and lightweight products. Looking for UV protection not necessarily heat protection. This price point has me leery of experimentation… Thoughts?
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
You’re welcome!!! The Seen products were put together. The Magic Serum does not contain UV protection. If you want mostly UV protection for your curls and you don’t use a flat iron I’d go for the Bounce Curl, it is a product you only need a small amount of evenly distributed in shower on your wet hair. You can go over to the blog post if that helps you. quicksilverhair.com/do-heat-protectants-protect-gray-hair-from-yellowing/ Thanks for watching. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

Thank you for the very thorough information. I appreciate the obvious effort that it took to conduct your experiment. Do you think that the flat iron directly correlates to a traditional curling iron that clamps over the hair? I ask because you typically glide a flat iron over a small section of hair multiple times. Curling your hair usually involves larger sections of hair and holding the iron in place for a moment or two (at least for me). Also, do these products work as long as they remain in the hair? For instance, if l wash my hair and apply the product before bed and then use a curling iron on dry hair in the morning, will it still be effective? Thanks again for your content. I am six months into my grey hair journey and feel like I am set up for success with the information that you are providing!!
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Hi, In my opinion, a curling iron can be even more damaging because you are holding the heat for a duration, especially to the ends crimped into the barrel. Moving heat is less damaging than direct stationary heat. That said a lot of curling irons don’t even get as hot as flat irons so testing the heat on your curling iron to make sure it is below 365°F would be the smartest route. If the product contains dimethicone, it likely will still provide heat protection the next day. But keep in mind that sleeping on your hair, you lose moisture and product to your pillowcase…so I’d find a heat protectant that you can apply shortly before your curling iron. And if you do touch ups the next day apply a little more something light like the Seen Magic Serum… and lower your temp to the lowest possible setting to achieve your desired result. Thanks for being here. 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟

I am shocked they claim dimethicone protects, it is these silicones that burn and turn the hair yellow! I use no silicones or protectants both dry and curl my hair and have never had any yellowing in the 7 years I've been grey
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
I do believe certain hair types are able to get away with heat styling without heat protection and no issues with yellowing but not everyone is so lucky. Dimethicone is rated as a heat protection because it takes the heat before the hair does since it creates a barrier. I will say with this test, oils will also cause that yellowing over 365°. I think temperature plays more of a crucial roll in yellowing than most realize in addition to what we use or don’t on our hair. I think you are incredibly lucky to have no issue with yellowing!!! It’s a blessing for sure. Thanks for watching. 🩶

You know how in order to get sun protection from sunscreen by applying a certain amount? I have always wondered if this is true for hest protectants on hair. I cant use a lot of product without getting weighed down.
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Celeste I think that would mean you need a heat protectant that isn’t heavy by nature. Probably the silicone free version. Like the Seen Blow out cream. I find if I section and apply it evenly but not excessively it does a great job but interestingly doesn’t weigh my hair down.

This is an outstanding video. I finally ran out of my tresemme heat styling spray so ordered Seen which arrived late yesterday. I am so relieved to see it came in number 1 in your trial. What kind of thermometer did you use to check the temps on curling and flat irons? My curling iron is over 5 years old so I’m wondering if the temperature is accurate on the gauge. As an aging woman, like you said, the hair around the face is more susceptible to all sorts of problems. If I need to curl it the second and third day, do you recommend moistening it then using rollers? Or is there a better option? Thanks!
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Hi Sharon, I use an infrared thermometer for all my heat tests and reviews. You can get one on Amazon. They aren’t that expensive: amzn.to/3PDTPRR You can also use a basic meat thermometer and crimp it between the plates, but they don’t always read perfectly. For retouches add something light like the Loma Nourishing Oil or the Seen Magic Serum and let it settle in and touch it lightly with your iron around 230° or below. Thanks for watching 🌟💎 Shine On! 💎🌟.

I have very fine hair that is not curly. Would your rankings be the same for really fine, straightish hair?
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Yes! I have very fine hair and use the Seen and Loma products regularly, with and without straightening. It is in how much you use. You may prefer the Curl Creme formula from Seen as it is a lighter formula but also provides heat and UV protection, I’m not sure the curl part will make any difference even used in straight hair.

Does the heat and UV protection continue to protect your hair until the next time you wash or do you have to reapply if you're out in the sun or curling your hair?
@QuickSilverHair
@QuickSilverHair 5 месяцев назад
Hi Jackie, good questions: I think the best practice is to apply daily for UV if out in the sun a lot. And to reapply something like the Seen Magic Serum before reapplying heat, and apply your heat as LOW as you can go to achieve your style.

It depends on the product, always follow their instructions, but if you need to reapply for going out into the sun just apply to dry hair. You can learn everything about sun protection in this Ultimate Guide: quicksilverhair.com/sun-damage-on-gray-hair-the-ultimate-guide-to-preventing-it-fixing-it/
