Experiment update! Dermistids/mealworm battle, dermistid pupation, and a new one - beetles as substrate! #mealworms #superworms #insectfarm #experiment #dermistid #beetles
Wow! So smart to pulverize the beetles! Much nutrients but i was thinking about pulverizing mealworms? The mealworms need proteine right? 20kg bag of wheat Bran is around 20euro 20kg of cooked and pulverized mealworms how much does that costs you? Maybe i can mix pulverized insects and use less wheatbran.
Mealworms are 20% protein, beetles are higher! The problem with cooking and pulverizing them is the time, it took a while to get the beetles prepped. I put them in the deep freeze for 5 days, then used my microwave dehydrator to dry them, then used a powderizer to get them into a 'flour'-like texture. I'm also going to try a grinder after putting them in a deep freeze, hopefully there isn't too much moisture. But the processing takes time, I don't think it's worth the effort unless I can do it in bulk OR just freeze/grind them. Using pulverized mealworms wouldn't be cost effective - the mealworms need to be sold, they aren't worth nearly enough as feed.....yet.....
