Experimental Plastic Impact Sprinkler - New modification fix?

I have two of this model plastic impact sprinkler. The unmodified model is extremely fast. I original modification broke this sprinkler. I made a new modification that brought some of that level of brokenness to functionality again. The tip of the PJ arm has now a piece of black tape as you can see with a 1/8" lip at a 30 degree angle. So what you see in the operation is a function of that change. This particular model is better made than many of the other sprinklers that come out of China. I want to use a small spot of glue at the tip of the arm to see if I can bring back some of the performance that it once had. I also want to loosen up the spring some, but that is for another test.

I have to say I really enjoy these experiments. It reminds me of the golf courses years ago that had all the spindle tools, and lever weights and a guy who knew how to keep their aging impacts running smoothly. Please keep sharing these.

Nice plastic impact! Seems to run good until it reaches the left stop and kind of freezes. When i was little i always experimented with different plastic impacts. like putting a brass spoon arm on a plastic impact. I always liked how the Melnor and Rainbird hybrids looked when I had them. I also had a few that i drilled a hole in the back and used a pen tube and tip to make a range nozzle, was good for watering the sides of the house where the lawn was a strip. I'd set the sprinkler near the middle of it and set it to only go to the neighbors bush line to the house siding. It worked quite well and watered it evenly. The pen tube and tip ( i had to break off some of the actual tip so there was a small hole on the end of it) worked well for a range tube and nozzle.

Good experiment, interesting that lowering the distance control flap helps to complete the trip even though the stream is undisturbed where the arm hits the stream. There must be some extra splash contacting the PJ arm.

Actually I think that the pressure created by the deflector put some additional pressure against the sleeve and journal tube gave it the contact and control it needed. Yes I also added the defuser and that too helped. Thank you for watching.

Why you have rotated the pipe?

Actually that is a good question. Instead of making a traditional stand that is not always stable I designed mine to be more stable without the need for caps on the ends of the stand. This is much more efficient as well and less likely for the stand to flip over like most designs.
