For people who don’t know about Sellotape, it’s basically packing tape- Sello being a version of “cello” for cellophane. Like Scotch tape in the US. :)

In the olden days I was a composite artist for a printing firm in Yorkshire. I used Letraset all the time and loved it. I just checked and eBay have some cheap alternatives (from 69p upward) but what they’re like - 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for the video, loved it and lots of inspiration there. The photocopy you used with the packing tape - is it inkjet or laser?

Cheers, I used a laser printer, you could try with an ink jet but I feel the results won’t be as consistent

Hi Tom..., again. I love your work so much,. I have created some cool mixed media pieces similar to yours that friends and family all want me to make a piece for them. No problem as I have always refused to sell my artwork, but get great pleasure giving my art to friends and family. Anyways, I have a couple of questions regarding the cellophane tape image transfers. I print copies that look similar to the ones you show on the video. I attach the cellophane tape just like you do. I wet it down and rub the paper off. Then, unfortunately, my cellophane tape doesn't have an image - or anything at all on the tape. What do you think I'm doing incorrectly? Are you using a certain brand of cellophane tape that may be causing my problem? I'm printing the images on regular bond paper. Are you using a specific type of paper other than regular photocopy paper? I think it is my brand of cellophane tape causing the problem. Could you please tell me the brand of cellophane tape you are using? I really want to get this cool process to work for me. Thanks in advance - Scott K.

Thanks Scott, and cheers for watching. The image or text your printing needs to be from a laser printer or can be from a newspaper-not ink jet printer or a glossy magazine page, also just use simple computer paper. Any sticky clear tape should work. Let me know how you get on.

@@TomQuigleyArt Thanks for the tips, Tom! We unfortunately only have an inkjet printer. That won't be a problem because there is a print and copy shop within a kilometer of our home. I know the guy quite well. I can do my printing at his printing shop. I'll keep you updated.

Hi Tom! How goes the race? The human race..., specifically! I'm not sure I want to hear any answers regarding the state of the human race?!? Anyways, yes, I did get my copies done on regular paper on a laser printer. To be perfectly honest, I was surprised how well the image combined with a little bit of collage and other mixed media turned into a very hip and edgy piece of work. So many compliments. Thanks, Tom, for introducing me to some different ways of approaching a mixed media piece. I would post my Instagram username, but I recently shut down my Facebook account because I was overtly hassled by unregistered charities and lonely women. Also, right or wrong, I've been offered money for many of my paintings. I give away many paintings but have no desire to turn my passion into a profit making business. I find once you turn something you love into a money transaction, the fun has left the building. What was enjoyable suddenly becomes work. I have no problem with anybody who wants to sell their works for a profit. I'm quite the customer of people who put their art up for sale or auction. It's just that I don't want to sell my work as a personal decision.

Is mounting board and backing board the same thing? I want to be sure I can cut the board and that it will soak up and transfer my ink to the project. LOVE this project. Any tips for a 16x20” pre-primed (Gesso) canvas foundation board substrate? I am planning to use ink, acrylics, cello transfers, sharpie, gel pens, copper tape, matte acrylic medium, and floetral for a social justice/protest piece for an upcoming local mayoral election!

I found old Letraset rub off letters at a local reuse/repurpose store in San Francisco called SCRAP. People donate semi-used art supplies and other maker-style items and they sell them for pennies on the dollar. Are there stores like that where you live?
