Experimenting with silica gel on an altered playing card 🦋 Shanouki 🦋

Now I know what to do with all those packets of silica. I have dozens of them saved but for what I have no clue. Love the color combo.

Wow! Who knew you can use these silica beads? Very cool!

Only use the white ones though! Especially if using a heat gun. Silica gel beads may contain poisonous and potentially carcinogenic cobalt(II) chloride, which is added as a moisture indicator. You can recognize silica containing cobalt chloride because it will be colored blue (dry) or pink (hydrated). Another common moisture indicator is methyl violet, which is either orange (dry) or green (hydrated). Methyl violet (or crystal violet) is a mutagen and mitotic poison.

I am new to your channel but binge watching your playing card tutorials. I buy travel pillows, take out the little polystyrene balls (really carefully, static is hectic) and mix them with mod podge... a great alternative to expensive products 🙂 Don't waste the silica gel beads but keep a little packet in any places you store paper, eg old letters, diy dyed paper, even photographs 😃😃😃 LOVE your channel ❤
