In this episode I tip my toes into the pool of schematics and things to do with the PT2399. A Reverb/Delay module that has been used in countless of effects projects. In this video I build the application circuit for echo from the datasheet, and also try out the prebuilt modules of this same circuit that can be bought cheap on for example ebay.

I really like your videos. They give a very useful annotated bibliography type feel. Where not only do you build something, but you present resources for more information. Which in modern day search engine design can be vital due to how search engines no longer have filtering options. I really wish more electronics DIY video series like this existed.

Awesome video. I love the PT2399. I've put them in a lot of my circuit bends. I wanted to share that it is also super easy to add feedback to those little red boards. All you need is a A100K pot connected between then center pole of the mix pot and C15. Perfect endless feedback.

Is there a schematic or even a picture of how to add the feedback to these? I really like the feedback I get on my own circuit but I'd like to have a bunch of them in a box and the pre-built circuit seems like the best way to do it.

Anders dahlqvist I show how to do this at about 14 minutes into this video of mine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OD6vd6YVB9g.html

I built aPT2399 circuit called the Crap-Fi delay for my homebrew modular. I chose it because it was the simplest circuit I could find but had I known about the pre-built circuits I would not have spent time on it. It can, however, be driven into some crazy feedback which the pre-built ones don't seem to be able to do without modification. I'm gonna order a few and build a multi-delay effect box now :)

I bought a few PT2399 chips a month ago because I wanted to experiment with them, you have already done that for me now :) My recommendation is to watch the video with headphones. I first ran it through my normal speakers and was pretty disappointed. But then I put on headphones and it got MUCH better! Greetings from germany and take care !

I must agree, headphones make a big difference.

I also agree, I think it was something in the youtube encoding aswell, as it sounded good when I edited the video in speakers, but on youtube the echo/delay/reverb effect did disappear a bit, and then headphones helped. I'll bumb the comment up so people know :)

Thank you for the power decouple capacitor - idea. I've just ordered some SMD caps and will try my luck...

Works nicely: put a little solder on one pad, reheat it and slide the cap in, then solder the other side. Use little solder and be quick.

Great video.. 2 red boards are waiting for my next low budget eurorack project.

always put a 1K resistor at pin 6, in series with the delay speed pot. this is to prevent locking at startup.

That sonds amazing. It is so cool that you are using the red karaoke-board, I have that one in the 9V jumpskiff. It sounded alot better attiniuated, so I used the pot for a filter instead of the delay, but guess I could just put on a resistor so the pot can be used for delay.

In this jam, I use it on the hat and snare. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ebFTXrJl8DI.html

Nice video once again and thanks for the chaining idea. I've had pile of those chips waiting in the long queue of modules to build. Maybe now would be the time. After the video I was thinking building also three in one module, add own inputs and outputs to each, but normalize the output jacks to input jacks so that the chain will cut off if you insert an input. With one input, you can either take the last output with all smashed together or mix all three outputs.
3 года назад
I was thinking of breaking jacks first aswell, but then you wont be able to get the "taps", so I thought a switch would be better, for both taps AND chaining...
@recyclop4058
@recyclop4058 3 года назад
@ Yeap, that's true..or you will get "taps", but at different stages of chaining. How about normalizing and switched to set if the normalizing is to earlier input or output? A dual pole switch could set them in series or parallel and you still can run them independently.

Very nice. Using a sequence with changing tones and/or timing as your input can help other people understand what's changing when you're using a delay. It sometimes makes it easier to tell "Was that the echo of the last beep? Or was it the one 3 seconds earlier?") A long delay is one of my favorite effects when just noodling around on guitar.
3 года назад
That is a very good point... I did sweep the oscillator in a few clips to get that effect, but I will add a sequence next time instead. Thanks for the tip!

This chip is not from the 80's. The Monotron delay from Korg made it popular with synth nerds around 2011. Not sure when the first guitar pedal was made, but it probably wasn't before 1997 or so.

You should take a look at SMD assembly. I just got 5 double LFO's made for a total of €45,- including parts. I could sell two for 30 and even make a profit, plus it's a whole lot of fun :)

Yeah I know, I still havent found a good project candidate (and TIME) to do it yet though, but will def. look into it sooner or (and probably) later... ;) Thanks for the info though.
