Really good video but @53:00 That is where SO many people need to watch and re watch. Your wisdom on the genetics of the animal would answer so many issues with the state of dogs these days. Genetics of an animal really determine the type of and ability generally for the dog you get. People may think "I think a wolf an a Malinois would make the perfect dog for..." like you said.. i saw it in a movie... I have a rescue from inuit that its mom was a GSD/Husky mix and no idea what the father was. I am training her as a service dog and i have been so lucky with her but she probably wouldnt be the best for being a SD.

I take my dog to the local park where there is a group of people, the same people and their dogs. I’ve been taking her (Jack Russell Terrier) since she was about 4 months old and had all her shots. She got to meet all the dogs and this became her “pack”. There are sometimes other dogs that come that are new or strangers. She has a great temperament i.e. knows her place in the pack, very friendly and I would say non confrontational. Doesn’t care if another dog gets her ball. Is not possessive over it. Would like to hold onto it but doesn’t care if another dog gets it. Doesn’t even care about other dogs balls. There are other dogs she plays with, wrestling and chasing and very respectful equal play. I have built a great relationship with her in terms of engagement. We go to the park mornings and evenings at the same time, same pack of dogs but she really is focused on me and the play. We arrive and do a perimeter walk around the park, off leash, she follows me and not going into the pack. We then go to the pack but she really want to hang out with me and play. So we are around the other dogs, she can ignore them and prefers to be with me playing, but she gets along with them all and I love that. Has great recall as I used the family whistle with her since she came home and she comes right away. Now I rarely have to use it because she just follow me. If I walk away to throw trash out or recycle the coffee cup she follows. And I reinforce this by walking around the park in all directions. I think engagement is so important and I have learned these basic things from watching videos of Robert training dogs and some of Cesar Milan’s philosophies about dogs. It’s been great this time around. Made a lot of mistakes with my first Jack Rascal

Yes! I think dog parks should be banned because there’s always going to be people that bring their out-of-control dogs and cause problems that could have been avoided by just not taking your dog in the first place. Plenty of places you can go besides a dog park.

I need to go back..my more local trainers are more into their police/attack/bitey stuff and couldn’t care less about pets. Plus, my boy is now 9 months old and totally acting like a teenager! Still well behaved, but showing his willfulness..@@GoannaUK

@@defendingthestrawman7103 the thing with kids is that they scream and yell and demand to have their will lol. Dogs are stuck on the lead forever. Zak's career will be over soon enough. I haven't watched him for years now. Dogs only live a short life and I wasn't wasting my dog's life using bumbleheaded, non-clarity training methods. I've never met a border collie that doesn't have some weirdness. I feel for them - they belong on farms doing the great work they were bred for.

@@defendingthestrawman7103 I agree re the agility. Nose work really seems to suit them, too. Running away would certainly come back to a lack of leadership in the owner.

@@defendingthestrawman7103 I dont know if you're a dog trainer or not but You're right and that's the problem! You can't control other people's interpretations. If not only for what looks like new trainers he's talking with, setting them on the right track but also the 4K people that have seen this video. if Robert is going to say fearful dogs take things personal. They don't they can't its just a false statement. He's creating an issue, this is the problem in the dog training industry as a whole! You have someone watching this video and they decide well if fearful dogs take things personal then insecure and reactive dogs must take things personal and they start repeating it and you have a dog owner that believes a false statement. I WILL GARENTY IF YOU ASKED ROBERT HE WOULD SAY THIS IS SOMETHING THAT FUSTRATES HIM ABOUT THE +R COMMUNITY. The +R community has the same problem! Someone like Zak George says you dont want to be aversive his community takes that to mean I cant discipline with a correction. Zak has done a good job of associating correction and aversive (punishment). Look I understand you wanting to help Robert, his comment has nothing to do with expressing himself or being unfair to dogs or talking out about aversive training. fearful dogs simply don't take things personal animals can't!
