No one martial art is "superior". Which one is "best" is entirely dependent on the characteristics of the person using it and the circumstances in which the fight is happening.
@l.d.6841
@l.d.6841 6 дней назад
@@edwardkeeter762 Nonsense. Grappling is superior to striking in 9/10 times as long as the fighters only are competent in their respective martial art. Martial arts that don't include sparring / have no pressure testing in their training will always suck against those martial arts who do. And for good reason: You just don't learn specific things that are very important like movement and positioning in static exercises which many martial arts teach only.

The fight at 6:38 has unfortunately been used by keyboard warriors for years as the standard piece of "evidence" against aikido. It is akin to using an "ad hominem line" of attack to win an argument, in other words, judging a martial art by the person who practices it (badly). For a start, there is no way a highly experienced aikido practitioner would just run around the ring trying to avoid an aggressor. The PR actioner getting demolished by the MMA fighter is definitely not a master and I doubt his has actually studied aikido - his stance is wrong, his distance and timing is off, his actual technique - if you could call it that - looks nothing like aikido. One can even tell by the way he faces off and tries to deal with barrage of attacks from the opponent that he lacks presence of mind to deal with the situation; his responses are timid, reactionary, and lacking any sort of control.

@@optimusmaximus9646 then watch Rokas' video here on RU-vid "Aikido vs MMA - Real Sparring". Rokas is a 13y experienced Aikido black belt and is not able to execute a single (!) Aikido technique against a similar but actually less experienced MMA fighter. He is just getting destroyed even though it's a very friendly and light sparring with the MMAler even giving him advice. And no, it's not about the person. Rokas switched to other Martial Arts like Boxing and BJJ and now even does MMA amateur fights. He got quite good. Aikido just sucks when pressure is applied and if you can't even keep up as a black belt with 13 years of training when someone starts attacking you something is just flat wrong with your martial art.

Aikido does work in self defense situations.I have seen it first hand I think it is the practicianers.But does work against untrained fighters.

This is just nonsense. This is not fighting, it is cooperative sparring limited to a few techniques. Whoever made this video does not understand BJJ at all. You never see aikido players in MMA because it will not work. I say this after 50 years of martial arts experience and 15 of the last years in BJJ. It's all theory until there is a real fight without rules.

Hello....Earth to RU-vid...come in RU-vid. When will people realise that aikido was not developed for rules-based competitions 🙄
@l.d.6841
@l.d.6841 8 дней назад
And? Doesn't change the fact that it's totally useless in any kind of fighting situation. In Aikido you don't learn to proberly box or kick, your takedowns are bs, and your takedown defense is non existent as well as your ground game. You never spar so you never learn to apply the techniques under pressure. If you can't apply it under pressure (which you can't because you never do it) it's useless garbage. Every boxer / kickboxer / thai boxer / grappler who trained for a year will demolish every Aikido black belt in a fight.
@optimusmaximus9646
@optimusmaximus9646 8 дней назад
You’re missing the point. I do not doubt that an MMA competitor would demolish an aikido practitioner if that was his ONLY martial art. But here's the thing - Aikido was never meant to be a complete martial art. Actually, no martial art is "complete" in the sense of having a system that covers every possible conceivable form of striking, take downs, stand up grappling, ground grappling, etc. This is the reason why fighters cross train, combining at least one striking art with one grappling art. Every martial art has something to offer; it's a pity you can't see that Aikido has merit, most probably because you are closed minded. The men who developed Aikido a century ago, including its founder, Morihei Ueshiba, did not just pull it out of vacuum - they were actually masters in Japanese jujutsu (which is where Gracie Jujutsu, and by extension BJJ, come from) and/or judo. And believe me they were experts. Aikido was meant to a supplement to other martial arts. Jigoro Kano - who developed judo - actually sent his best students to train with Ueshiba. For Kano to do that, it would mean that he valued it and knew it would help his students. Aikido principles are very sound. If you look hard enough you will find that a lot of people who train in MMA have done some aikido as they have an open mind and realised it could help them in their training. I hold the rank of 2nd dan ITF tae kwon do (not WTF Olympic style). I am also trained in wing chun, boxing, judo, and aikido, and I can honestly say doing aikido has certainly helped me. Have you heard of a mixed martial artist Jason DeLucia? I encourage you to look him up. He is remembered for being in the very first fight (and the very first win) in UFC history and has an impressive record of wins in UFC and pancrase. His background includes training in Aikido, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Kung Fu, and Shootfighting. He even brought out a DVD series called combat aikido. He did not claim that you could win with just aikido, but he was adamant it can be a highly useful adjunct to your training.
@l.d.6841
@l.d.6841 8 дней назад
@@optimusmaximus9646 No I didn't miss the point. None of the martial arts I mentioned offer a complete system. They are still very effective on their own even if you don't cross train. Aikido is not effective on it's own. And this has nothing to do with me being close minded but only with the fact that Aikido is not an effective martial art for self defense / fighting. Aikido was developed to be able to defend against an armed attacker while being unarmed. If it was trained like this and if pressure testing was involved in the training - fine. But it's not. So there might be some principles in Aikido that are helpful but it's still not worth spending the time learning it if you instead can learn something else that is way more effective for the same purpose. And it is not advertised as an martial art that is meant to prepare you to fight unarmed against someone with a sword. So it's misleading the practioners giving them a false feeling of competence while they are actually not competent in self defense / fighting at all. And giving the example of one professional fighter who brought out a DVD about combat Aikido doesn't change that especially considering that you won't find a single MMA fight where a fighter uses Aikido techniques. Edir: the use that I see in Aikido is for bouncers and law enforcement guys who get in situations where they can actually grab people and use techniques like wrist locks without being / getting in a fight. But since you can also only learn those techniques without the need to learn a system behind it again there is no need to learn Aikido

@@bobfromdenison No they don't. And Aikido in particular doesn't work at all. Want proof? Just watch Rokas' Aikido vs MMA Sparring here on RU-vid. Being a black belt with 13y experience he was not able to execute a single Aikido technique sparring against a similarly (actually less) experienced MMA fighter. And you can't say it's because of the fighters because now that Rokas is training effective Martial Arts like Boxing and BJJ he got good. Aikido just sucks. Period.

Aikido practitioners are very rarely taught how to actually fight. I've not seen a school teach them to fight, nor was I taught how to fight in class. Aikido is an incredibly useful and powerful style, when used in conjunction of other fighting styles. It's great as a supplemental style.
