I'm loving these videos not knowing a lot about science fiction and fantasy. Do you think you'd ever do an overview video on Anthony Burgess and his work?
@outlawbookselleroriginal
@outlawbookselleroriginal 2 года назад
I will do something on his SF one day- but it's been decades since I've read any of his work, except for a regular re-read of 'Clockwork'. But we'll see - as the channel progresses, I will be doing more general fiction too so watch this space...thanks for the praise!

Great . Our taste seem to be akin . My overflowing two + deep packed shelves mirrors yours but mine are Daws , Del , Signet et al paper backs . The " cool " thing about a over stack book shelf ,you " find new stuff " .I found a couple of Vonnegut ' Galapagos ' and ' Welcome to the Monkey House ' I wish I had a Tardian book shelf . Who knows I may get one .Thanks for the tour ,show and tell .

The secret is- make a list, search regularly, budget carefully, set your own criteria- you don't have to be a completist, focus on what YOU feel is most important.

Very enjoyable perusal, as ever. I did weep seeing the original spines of 'The Toynbee Convector' and 'Fevre Dream' though, as I bought them on release and subsequently got rid during a clear-out twenty years ago. (You likely get a lot of that...). Looking forward to a possible future Colin Wilson post you mention. He's gone out of favour somewhat since his death, but, I'd argue that's all the more reason to re-evaluate him.

Agreed, Mark, I hope to be doing a CW video over the next month. Like yourself, I've cleared out many things I wish I'd kept too - we live and learn, but still on small budgets...take care, old chum!

It'll happen in November probably, Victor, maybe before - I have a lot of book-related stuff scheduled for October shooting including some special guest stuff. I have been slightly disappointed by the low view figures for my film stuff so far, but I won't be unbowed. Watch this space (And the skies!), my man!

Please so, Steve, my email is on the 'about' page - I need to upgrade my webcam before we do, so it may be a while yet, but the demand for interviews - and my need to interview writers I know who are hundreds of miles away from me is growing daily. Glad you liked it, do get in touch!

Good to hear that Golem100 is good as it’s on my TBR. The Effinger trilogy is underrated-not as dense as Gibson but satisfying.

Man, I know your pain. Every time I shoot I go through a backbreaking shifting session that involves up to 15-20 boxes of stuff each and every time- unless I sit at the PC and shoot that way (then all people see are the spines of some of my LPs!). These rich collectors with their custom built libraries and tons of space don't know they're born...

I'm glad you rate Keith Roberts' "The Event". He wrote it after a boozy pub session (what else are pubs for) during which I challenged him to write a story in which almost nothing happens. I have a signed typescript of the story somewhere on which he acknowledges that.

That place you're thinking of at the bottom of Charing Cross Road was definitely Fantasy Inn, which amusingly advertised itself as being "6ft under The Book Inn". Many fond memories of that place, and the paperbacks that came out of it. Went up in smoke under mysterious circumstances, didn't it? Fantasy Centre was a different place altogether on the Holloway Road. Enjoyed the mention of Millington. They did the 1st hardback of Keith Roberts' ANITA which has proven quite influential though seldom acknowledged as such by those who have profited most from its conceit. An interesting title to tackle at some point.

yes Richard, you're right, I'd forgotten the fire! I love 'Anita' - it's one of the selections in my book '100 Must Read Fantasy Novels' - as you infer, it inspired the whole subgenre of teen paranormal romance (or rather it lay unregarded for decades until that field became a thing). I have the Owlswick one, always coveted the Millington original, not acquired it yet, waiting for the right condition and right price....

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I quite like the the UK Moorcock hardcovers particularly the covers for Hawkmoon and Corum, also like them having all the novels relating to the particular series/champion in one volume. Great content!

I never knew "Diva" was based on a book. Great film, very original, one of my favorites.
@outlawbookselleroriginal
@outlawbookselleroriginal 2 года назад
It's an obscure film these days - I still think it's amazing. The book is cool, long OP. The main difference is that Alba isn't Oriental in the book, but a white blonde, which seems a little more cliched. Well worth a read though- wish I'd kept the sequels, had all of them in identical livery hardcovers. They were remaindered in the UK, never took off really, shame!

@@outlawbookselleroriginal I worked for IBTaurus. They specialized in Middle Eastern studies but were building interesting lists in cinema and pop culture as well as history and geography.
