If jealousy has a colour, it's the colour green. Green as in envy. I enjoy book shopping vicariously, and you have a great go of it so that's why, in addition to many other SFS features, I like your book hauls so much! Now, if you could figure out how to clone yourself, you'd have endless (almost) time to read them all. :) Cheers Jon!

14:37 - I read the whole Vorkosigan saga, in the order of internal chronology, novels _and_ novellas, in one continuous binge during the Covid lockdown. It pretty much kept me afloat mentally. Well, _Shards of Honor_ is a bit "lovey dovey", but it suited me then. Others become less so in a various degree. _A Civil Campaign_ might be even more so, as is _Winterfair Gifts,_ but don't let it put you off. Her world building is amazingly realistic, especially when you know that it features one semi-feudal society, Counts, swords and all (among several others, all different, all convincing.) No aliens, though.

Your OCD is kinda outa control, Jon.😂🤣 Seriously, good haul. Appreciate the Asimovs, as I'm basically doing the same thing in ebook. Currently got Caves of Steel, looking at the others, waiting for sales. 🙄 While the Kindle selection for Asimov is quite thin, I am looking forward to getting the Robot Visions and Robot Dreams, collections I've not read yet, and the Robots of Dawn, which I've overlooked in reading the Elijah Bailey books. 🙂

Your every episode costs me at least €20. Luckily, I prefer Kindle editions to pristine, first edition, signed hard cover DTBs, and I find the internal strength to wait for frequent deep discounts, otherwise I would already be selling my car :-D Only @bookpiled is more dangerous than you in that respect.

Your latest hunt for books really yielded some great results I see 🙂, some really, really nice hardbacks and signed editions as well. I do happen to have the Greg Mandel series complete in hardback but I haven't been able to muster up the enthusiasm to start it yet, eventhough Peter F. Hamilton and Alastair Reynolds are probably my joint favourite authors. But we'll see when I get to that trilogy whether I was wrong...

Hey, Jon! It always fascinates me that you find books and authors I´ve never heard of. I have a very complicated relation to Feintuch´s Seafort Saga. I liked the first book. I didn´t find it fantastic because of the world-buiding but it wasn´t bad - the following books turned out to be to repetitive for my taste and I stopped reading the fourth book after only a few pages. That rarely happens. Had no luck on the flea market today. Sadly. Have a good week!
@SciFiScavenger
@SciFiScavenger 3 месяца назад
Hmmmm, doesn't sound like i should try too hard to get the other Seafort books. Might take them back to the shop, in fact! One of the fascinations for me doing this channel has been discovering books and authors I'd never heard of before, never mind read. Thanks for watching 👀!

Wow! You're starting to win the World of Books lottery. Some great books at a great price. I really like the Keith Roberts signed copy of Kiteworld that you showed at the beginning. And in earth £. 😏 I visited my new favourite bookshop in the world a few weeks back and picked up some NESFA press and Crown SF hardbacks. Also found some Bob Shaw. Stay tuned!

To your point about the mysterious signals from Jupiter. It makes sense once you realize everything is signals. That's all there is is signals. In fact every single episode of Star Trek should start out with a mysterious signal reception.

Some very nice books there, nothing better than a hardback in tip-top condition. They're so nice to hold and just admire 😂 A recent purchase of mine that I'm very pleased with is also a John Brunner - his 'The Sheep Look Up' (first edition paperback). Been trying to find a decent copy that isn't prohibitively expensive, which is difficult. Very expensive book for some reason, I don't believe it's out of print or anything so who knows.

The true first of 'Take Back Plenty' was an Unwin C format trade paperback with a totally different cover to the Grafton A you have there (I have one of those too). There was a US hardcover which is quite hard to find. It's a Gollancz Masterwork these days of course. Nice 'Kiteworld', you were lucky there, great book. Nice haul, got loads of those myself as you know. I will personally never forgive Gollancz for not issuing 'The Thing Itself' in hardcover. His collection 'Adam Robots' was also a trade paperback original too in D Format (royal had it been a hardcover)- 'Thing' went straight into B format. His latest book - 'The Death of Sir Martin Malprelate' was a trade paperback original too, from Datura Books. I don't think there were any other novels by Adam issued only as paperbacks.

I think Adam's new one (out next month) is a hardback release. Cheers Steve, thanks for watching 👀!

@@SciFiScavenger Yep, that's the one. My mate Graham has it. The hardest one of Colin's books to find is 'Finding Helen', a mainstream novel that was a paperback original published back in 2003, let mine go years ago. He hasn't produced anything since then, maybe a few shorts, shame.

Blimey mate, bargain basement or what. I don't collect hardbacks as such but I can appreciate the value of that little lot. Have WOB come under new management or have they just turned over a new leaf. Anyway good luck shelving that bunch 😮

More luck than judgement. If i order 4 books from WoB, typically 1 will be great, 2 just ok, 1 shit or wrong. I am gradually learning my lesson and I'm trying to buy from dealers or individuals where i can see the actual book. Costs more tho, so the temptation remains! Cheers Kenny, thanks for watching 👀!

Plot blurb for Galaxias is a bit misleading. It's actually more of a first contact novel. It's brilliantly original take on that trope. One of Baxter's most underrated novels. Whole Wide World is marketed as sf, but it's really a straight crime novel. Very good one though. The Thing Itself is magnificent, a pure literary brilliance. Sundiver is terrible book, Brin's worst effort by far. Sister Alice is good, it was previously published as a series of stories, so it feels a bit episodic. The Quiet War is fantastic. Brasyl I didn't care for that much, but it's been a while since I read it. Integral Trees is my favorite solo Niven. Yes, I think it's better than Ringworld. Excellent video, as always.
