I used to drive in the worst areas in the city even at night and if the emergency windows were swinging out, we wouldn't get out to slam them shut, it would be Way TOO DANGEROUS & that was in the 1980's time!!!

Yeah, nothing would encourage me to go to work fixing trucks more than, waiting for a bus in heat, rain, cold, or snow, then work 8-10 hrs, just to wait for a bus again in those same conditions, except now I'm tires, and aggravated. Oh, did I mention riding the bus for up to an hr each way, maybe having to transfer busses mid ride? Oh, I also forgot to mention, the bus stop might be a few blocks away from my home and my job. I did all this in Carbondale pa in the 90s, I'm speaking from experience. Riding the bus sucks, oh, as for grocery shopping, do you think I want to bring 4 bags of groceries on the bus?

Recycle (repurpose)old vehicles.

Pubic transportation means spending four hours on a bus instead of a 30 minute drive. Not to mention the loony toons you meet as you are a captive audience.

Public Transportation is necessary for those who cannot afford to purchase a private vehicle or for those that have no alternative transportation ( I am speaking for those who that are have certain disabilities.). It should be more widely used and taken advantage of. I will give a case in point: My drivers license was taken away from me due to my disability. I was very and literally wanted to slit my doctor’s throat. But after three weeks and thinking about it I realized how much money I saved ( I.e. car loan, car maintenance, insurance, fuel ⛽️, parking, etc.). After 30 years I must have saved over $250,000 compounded dollars. I walk to nearby places such as to get my weekly groceries with my grocery cart 🛒, walk to church, etc. if I do need to take a cab 🚕 I will call one or an Uber or Lyft. I realize that for families, those in rural communities, or certain occupations public transportation is not feasible but it is for those in large counties and areas that have a hub point just like the airline industry or private bus companies have. I am speaking for the many others who use public transportation as well as myself.

Doesn't help that almost all automakers abandoned their subcompact line-ups in the USA, unlike in most other global regions. No Toyota Yaris/Yaris-Cross, No Mazda2/CX-3, No Fit, No Lexus LBX, etc. The list goes on & on. Also doesn't help that most Americans are apparently enamored with large, oversized, over-priced vehicles & drowning themselves in debt to get them.
