Really fantastic video. Might be my new favorite! I can see myself coming to this one pretty often! Hope to see similar content in the future as well. ************0:39 ******1:44 2:00 2:30 5:24 5:43 5:54 6:40 11:18
Katie, I have a question about hydroponic green beans you may be able to answer. I grow indoors with a 9 foot ceiling. Would you happen to know a bean that may work for such restrictions? Also, I have two jalapeño plant in my large bato pan set up. About 2.5 feet high and as of this morning, they have 21 peppers between them.smile😊. You should have fun with your pepper bucket. Unfortunately, the red and green bell peppers aren’t fairing as well. I set up the pH and EC for hot peppers and believe it wasn’t advantages for the bell peppers. Live and learn great videos by the way I really appreciate you taking the time to share with us.not only do we learn who we also can go back and review.
I’m growing my green beans in an 8 high ceiling so I think mine would work for you. They grow up and then back down off the top of the trellis system. Fortex is the cultivar from Johnny Seeds. Here is an older video showing my set up and some more information. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IaUen5focbk.htmlsi=3Vhx_XYduYD8_6oO

My green beans grow crazy, and I not really worried about the height. I let them grow up to the wire, support them and the grow back down. I just try and keep them supported on the trellis system so they dont break. Seems to work well. That is awesome on the peppers. When they get ripe pick them, so the plant keeps producing for you. You can keep them going for years which is pretty cool. On my bells my EC is 1.2 and PH is 5.8 I occasionally reduce EC if it really gets hot just so I can force the plants to take up more water and not burn. Keep watching! Glad you can review.
If you were to rebuild your nft channels again, how would you do it? Do you miss walking space between them? Is there anything you don't like about them?
I have done both. You can try and get all the plant matter out and clean the perlite in a hydrogen peroxide was which does work well. I used a paint strainer net and dunked it in a bucket and the let the perlite dry out. I also replace and compost. Its great potting mix the next year for my flowers.
the Bato Buckets are drain to waste. We watch output very close and make sure we have very little leaving the buckets by adjusting the times and length of watering
You don't have to prune Fortex Beans. I never have, I just let them go but I do harvest from them every day to make sure they keep producing as long as possible
I thought you were at the beach! It's hot here in Utah desert as well but I still spend hours a day working in the garden. We love growing our own food, and flowers, too! I just reviewed mhpgardener Bobby's green beans in a kitchen sink. Definitely trying out hydroponics this year!
Hi Joe, the front 40 feet of the 1st bay is concrete for the bato buckets the rest is washed river rock under the nft channels. I do have concrete sidewalks and concrete at the wet wall.
Please explain nutrient formulas you use for strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers and beans, if each is different. I have Masterblend 4-18-38. Love your contents. Thank you.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnVSZjQUrKk.html Explains my nutrients. I use bulk mixing them myself based on a nutrient formula built of my source water analysis. Hope that answers your question. I don't know anything about Master blend
Hey moon walker. Yes Johnny Seeds discontinued them last year. I found them at paramount seeds. Sorry I don’t have the web page but you should be able to find them.
Thanks so much! I saw on Johnnys something about Poniente had replaced the other. I ordered the poniente, beans you are growing, Win-Win, five star lettuce, Carlton and broccoli microgreens. Going to keep myself busy 😊
Another question...whats the gph on those emitters? We've tried several even some with those green flow valves and it was still a mess. 😢 some emitters stopped working and our plants suffered
I have a disk filter after the dosatrons to filter anything out of the nutrient solution and so far, that has done well I don't have any emitters getting clogged. The emitters i use are 0.5 GPH If you need a link to the emitters, or the filter just let me know and I'll get it for you
The 4 cubic foot bags are sold a nursery stores or greenhouse supply center These I won in at an auction. I do often get them at CropKing. Here is a link cropking.com/catalog/bato-growing-accessories-growing-media-perlite/perlite-horticulture-coarse-4-cu-ft
Nice video katy.. thanks.. i,am doing some thinking here so I have some questions for you.. How long is the pipe the buckets drain into? How far apart are the holes in the pipe?? How far apart do you have each line?? I,am trying to get a idea of how big a green house i,de need to set up a beto bucket system like you have. Do you have three or four lines??... thanks. You look great in this video 😊
@@twobears2024 the drain holes depend on how far apart you want your buckets that usually depends on what your growing just like dirt farming spaced for plant growth and air circulation 👍 believe her bato system is a drain to waste how many plants you need to meet your produce Goals ought to be a good starting figure on size and don’t forget to figure in space for working around your system (s). .. cropking sells small premade bato recirculating systems Belive 10 and 24 buckets 10 = ten feet long 24= 12feet long Hope this helps on your quest to hydro farming Sorry Katie if I stepped on you toes 🤷♂️
@rawbsworld6604 thanks for the info.. i,am just wondering how much room katys systems take up to get some idea how much space i,de need to setup a system like her,s. She seems to have it all figured out so i,de like to just copy her systems. Please fill me in katy..i,ll behave now. 😉
@@twobears2024 👍 hahaha Go big or go home eh ! 😆 Them I mentioned are hobby / classroom size systems kropking is your answer in my opinion I haven’t dealt with them in the capacity HGP has , but you really should review HGP vid catalog / library she’s covered everything you want or need to know
My Bato bucket systems are on the concrete in the front of the greenhouse and that area is 40 x 22 4 rows of bato buckets drain lines are roughly 30 feet long spacing is 16inchs on buckets which are staggered.
@HomegrownPassion thanks for the info.i,am thinking about building a 24x110 foot greenhouse and want a Dutch bucket system like yours and wonder how much space it takes up..thanks for the info katy.
Hello Katie, Perfect time to ask, have you seen the hook and wicket system that Conner (the farmer) over at Neversink farm uses? If you have, a question for you, would that system of " no ladders to lower and lean and harvest" work in the system you are using now? And your thoughts trying bush beans ( faster turn over) instead of pole beans, I really don't like the ladder work you two are doing.😊
For us it was to expensive to concrete the entire greenhouse. I wish i could have but we were trying to keep it in budget. The gravel under the NFT channels works fine. I wanted concrete in the area i grow my bato bucket plants just to make it easier and cleaner .
@@HomegrownPassion actually that’s a good question ☝️ it’s fleetingly crossed my mind Weeds growing in gravel ever become a pita! . Since I’m on it ,cement or gravel retain enough heat to be an added hinderance in summer or benefit in winter in maintaining temp?
@@HomegrownPassion thanks for the response. I was debating how I should set mine up. I will probably put ground fabric down and then cover with gravel.
Thats a good idea. I put plastic down first. Just tried to make a moisture barrier so I would not get a lot of humidity from the ground. I have a high-water table where the greenhouse is so that's why I went with plastic.
