Austin Butler so deserving of any awards he receives. His portrayal of Elvis was phenomenal.

Austin is my man!!! I am HUUUUUUUUUGE Elvis' fan, and went to the movie with no much expectations because all actors who had portrayed Elvis before made a "cartoon" version of him: exagerating the lips gesture, and how he said "baby", and the southern accent... I mean, in some point, all of those performaces were even disrespectful, I'm sure with no intention, but in the end, they all made a halloween costume out of Elvis, and I truly hate them all. So, watching Austin performance was soooooo refreshing…he NAILED IT! The stuttering Elvis had when he wanted to talk faster, the movements, the accent, the laugh!! In the scene where they are at the Hollywood sign and he laughed...I lost it!! he WAS Elvis!! Mindblowing! He did it with love and respect, he really prepared for the role for three years; he made a beautiful and moving performance. Elvis got a movie that FINALLY made justice to him (I must confess I ended up crying at the end when the movie blends to the real Elvis' footage), and Austin was simply marvelous. He gotta have the Oscar! I'm praying for it!!

Austin Butler is 31. It's rare for young men to win Best Actor by their early 30s, but he could do it. The ones who did are: Adrien Brody (29); Richard Dreyfuss and Marlon Brando (30); Maximilian Schell (31); Nicolas Cage, James Stewart and Daniel Day-Lewis (32), and Eddie Redmayne (33).

If Fraser has that 'come back' narrative, then Butler has the narrative of 'never give up'. The story about him has been in this business for nearly 2 decates and there were times that he hadn't booked any role, he was out of job for several months many times. This narrative is really inspiring as same as the 'come back' one, this shows that it doesn't matter how many times he falls, it's how many times he gets back up!!! This story together with his hard work on Elvis for almost 3 years, should help him win the Oscar. However, if Fraser or Farrell wins, they are all well deserved!!!

Austin winning just shows that he’s still in the race. And if he wins SAG then it’s pretty much game over. But Fraser could win SAG also and it could come down between Butler vs Fraser for the Oscars. I loved All Quiet on the Western Front so I'm happy it took all those awards! We were expecting Blanchette to win here and we also knew Banshees was a legitimate contender for many prizes so I wasn't expecting Bassett to win supporting. Having said all that, I'm not sure it'll translate into Oscar success. BAFTA doesn't have a great record predicting Best Picture and the Daniels just won DGA (and they're expected to also win WGA) so I'm still putting my money on EEAAO, even if something else wins PGA. But this definably shakes things up! And, I'm here for the shaking!! PS: Barry Keoghan was the true supporting performance in Banshees.

Is the vibe really that poor for Spielberg for director bc I think Spielberg can still win that Oscar. I know that many films have won the Oscar BP without BAFTA success. But isn't it fair to say that with a plurality vote, that EEAAO could've been as low as 4th with the Brits (behind AQ, Banshees, Elvis). With the notion floating around that EEAAO "could" struggle on a preferential ballot, does that make EEAAO look weaker (Brits aren't for it + preferential hurdle)? Also, If AQOTWF wins things like Int'l, Cinematography, Score etc. at the Oscars ... and then Screenplay ... how much of a nailbiter will it be to see if it actually pulls off Best Picture? That screenplay win would be crucial.

Austin Butler won the The Golden Globe over Fraser (Drama) and BAFTA over Farrell and Fraser, as well as the Australian AACTA International and Catalonia Sant Jordi and the Satellite over Farrell (Comedy or Musical) and he's up for the Irish International category at IFTA. Fraser won his awards because of his melodramatics and feel good comeback narrative and it was all American bodies falling for that garbage. The Forgien Press, British Academy, Australian Academy international version and Catalonia Branch of the Public Spanish Radio Network all went with Butler over Fraser and Farrell. Austin's dramatics in Elvis beyond the amazing on stage performances matched both Farrell and Fraser when Elvis's mother dies, when Priscilla leaves and when he screams at Parker on stage and when he yells at him and his dad in the hotel lobby and suite. Austin did so many subtle things too that went over the heads of many who aren't lifelong avid Elvis fans. Also, The Golden Globes and BAFTA are too good to be seen as, and never were, traditional precursors to the agenda based Oscars. When they line up with the Oscars it is purely coincidental because of what each voting body primarily represents, that being The Golden Globes - International voters from around the world, The BAFTAs - voters from the United Kingdom and The Oscars - voters from the United States. The Golden Globes and BAFTA have always been prestigious stand alone awards. BAFTA's ceremony has only preceeded the Oscars for 20 years. For over 50 years the Oscars could be called a precursor to BAFTA. Critics Choice and SAG are more precursors because they are American voters. This explains why outside of the U.S. Critics Choice and SAG don't make a single list of important film awards on a world scale, because people only look to the Oscars for what the U.S. thinks, and that Critics Choice and SAG have only been around since 1995 and 1996. The Golden Globes (1944) BAFTA (1949) along with the Oscars (1929) all make every list of not only significant global film awards, but awards in general, including the Grammy, Nobel and Pulitzer. If you win the Oscar, and you also won Critics Choice and/or SAG for the same role or film etc, the Oscar is just a greater extension of those wins. But if you win an Oscar, Golden Globe and/or BAFTA, it's much more like winning multiple awards. Same as if you win Critics Choice and/or SAG but not the Oscar, you're far more empty handed in the eyes of the masses than had you won a Golden Globe and/or BAFTA but not the Oscar. In that scenario you've still won one or more worldwide prestigious trophies

this was the wirdest BAFTAs... Lets recapitalise. They gave best Picture to a fine REMAKE instead of a film that redined what narrative and script is all about (TAR) they gave Best actor to an extremely talented young actor instead of Frazer, or Farrell or Nightly doing the best performance of their carreer. I don't think Austin, no matter he deserves all the praises, was better than them this year... He might become a legend but it is about THIS year, and the list goes on... The only logic choice they made was Blanchett but it is not an excuse for everything else...

Also about the meaning of remake, maybe its a linguistic misunderstanding. This version differentiates itself from the 2 previous. Of course this happens because the way we use texts is in a dialogue with societal and political needs of our era. And yet it is based on one of the most tremendous books ever written, already transferred twice on screen. I think what gave it a push is the momentum, like Ukranian war f.i. But it is not as genuine as an original script that on top changes or at least expands what film narrative is about. And imo there was such a script/film this year. "TÁR" is, for all its symphonic structure and formalism, at many levels a satiric hoot, and the whole Act 3-dream argument is laughable. Butler now joins Blanchett as One To Beat, as DGA already pointed to the Daniels in that direction. Bassett and Quan are hardly likely to be derailed, nor are Polley and McDonough for writing. International Feature is "All Quiet's" to lose, unless enough of the membership see and fall to pieces over "Close." For BP, SAG and PGA seem the big final tells at this point -- the BAFTA upsets were only somewhat more indicative than not that this year's Oscars could be a Free For All, which would be great. "Navalny" is a major documentary contender, timely, entertaining and the kind of film AMPAS may choose to prove its social conscience bona fides after going science-y/uplift in recent years. Also, it shares with "EO" and "Banshees" this year's biggest trend: The Year of The Donkey. As ever, youse twose are the berries. More, please, thank you.
