If they watched the shows, Lower Decks would have an animated series nomination and original music and lyrics would have been a nomination for Strange New Worlds for it's freaking musical episode.
For sure Thats just name check, especially RDJ, those show could have easily got for makeup and prosthetics, cause that performance depends soo much on it They didnt even watch the trailer for the show
I am still upset that The Bear is competing as a comedy, just because its episodes are short (or some other reason I will not understand). It was very telling how much it is NOT a comedy when they were showing the clips of the nominated comedy series on the announcement video. All the other shows had a funny moment in the clips. The Bear, zero laughs. *sigh*
You’re saying the exact same things I was thinking. At the SAG awards they couldn’t show any funny clips either. Martin Short gives the funniest performance 🎭 all year but he will lose to someone giving a dramatic performance. Succession a drama had funnier moments in one episode than the Bear
@@Aussie27Legend They definitely just didn’t watch it and saw Downey’s name on the ballot. I see no other reason it wouldn’t get actor, directing, music supervision etc
@@haroldandmod i agree, i still don't understand how there isn't a soft stipulation that you need to have seen everything on some sort of shortlist to be able to give an informed opinion. (if i had the reputation that voters just hand their ballots off to an intern to fill out I would just retire the show in shame)
devastated for emily (emma) and the curse. kind of felt her chance at winning, despite giving what i'd argue was the best performance of 2023 above poor things no less, was done when there wasn't any campaigning, but for her to not even get a nomination and a full shut out ... sigh. as a news outlet remarked, "but it's still shocking to see emmy voters so turned off by a challenging series they don't even pay respect to an all-time performance (emily's)." i personally adored a full interrogation of performative white liberalism with zero sympathetic portrayals- wouldn't have been done right if it was "comfortable" and the well-researched, meticulous social commentary was a delight- but even if people weren't on board with that, i thought they'd at the very least, as the quote states, honor another tour de force from emily.
Sad that 'One Day' didn't get recognised at all. Ambika Mod would've been my personal nominee for 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie'.
Why do you guys think One Piece got zero nominations while Avatar got some? Is it because Netflix chose to push the second? They're both pretty successful fantasy shows and live-action adaptations, though while One Piece was more popular internationally, Avatar was bigger in the US.
I'm pretty happy about these, everything I rooted for got nominated pretty much. I'm glad they didn't overnominate everything under the sun and filled up the categories with the same 2 shows like in Limited we have 7 different shows in supporting actor and supporting actress also only has one double for Baby Reindeer. The only one they did was The Morning Show, which is unhinged and hilarious. Very happy about Slow Horses and Jack Lowden, them going for the two Mr. & Mrs. Smith leads as well as the 2 guest actors I wanted nominated. Also nobody of the main characters from Lessons in Chemistry missing and Ripley doing great and even getting Dakota. This year feels much more "restricted ballot" than last year and there is a certain variety back that wasn't there especially last year, which I'm very glad about. And lastly: The claire foy stuff needs to stop like just STOP. It's like the Emmy popularity is 1. Maya Rudolph 2. Claire Foy. Stop. She didn't do anything AGAIN and the Mr. and Mrs. Smith women were so much fun, I hope they have common sense there.
I’ve been waiting all day. Quick hot takes. The Morning Show is the industry favorite also the new Better Call Saúl. It won’t win anything. Sad for no Loki nominations above the line. Extremely happy for Fallout, What we do in the shadows, Reservation Dogs and Curb!!! Claire Foy for another 5 minute performance. We now know most Emmy voters are lazy voters.
Was happy to see Reservation Dogs get the series nom though it deserved way more, getting ready for another tedious, undeserved Bear sweep (andd not just for the comedy/drama thing, i just though s2 was mediocre at best and Fishes was the most overstuffed, overindulgent, annoying episode of tv ive watched in a while)..now can someone please tell why the hell the Morning Show is getting so many nominations, even in a scant year this is ridiculous
I know this is bait, but I don’t believe I’ve ever said a negative thing about Fellow Travelers throughout this cycle. We had both questioned its viability as an Emmys contender due to the academy’s history of ignoring Showtime/Showtime w/ Paramount+ - something that was proven true with how The Curse got zero nominations and another great show like A Gentleman in Moscow didn’t register. And now I have Jonathan Bailey in first in my picks, like I’m sure many others do. I’m always happy to say when I got things wrong, but the suggestion here is off base!
Are there ever really “weak” categories or are academy members just lazy and not diversifying what they watch? It seems that they only watch four or five shows. There are plenty of good shows with good actors doing great work that never get recognition.
Time for my (last) year of the annual Reservatiom Dogs Was Robbed awards. Wish the curse got some recognition and the morning show got less how are people still stomaching that.
