These old documentaries are the absolute best. There was one about the car differential which opened my third eye or some sh*t, no joke, I felt true enlightenment.

This is why we say "Old is gold". If there was a way to give this video a thousand likes, I would surely have done it. The amount of effort that has gone into making this masterpiece of a video, deserves a lot more appreciation than it's getting.

What an amazing video (film). I can't imagine how much time the people who made this spent on planning this all out and then filming it. Especially the stop action sequences. So much easier to understand than the countless modern computer generated animations. Great stuff - thanks for sharing !

Every single watch lover/enthusiast must honestly watch this video over and over again like me haha 😄 This is probably my 4th or 5th time now lol. I don’t care how old it is In fact if anything, it’s better BECAUSE it’s older, and watch technology has remained essentially the exact same for hundreds of years now.

Also this was produced by Hamilton watch company, a youtuber in doing videos in his living room doesn't have the same budget that a major watch company had in the 40s, specially before they fell behind asian alternatives

Why is it that the America of old, provides so much more knowledge and explanation? Couldn't imaging sitting in a physics class taught by Einstein. The questions one could ask, and the answers that might come. What has happened to us? Now students demand (and receive) a professor be fired that the class was too hard.

It would be nice to see in 3Dim with currently available technology. Thanks a lot for this video. My doubt:- I am still not clear how the main sprint chamber which is housing already tightly wound spring release its stored energy to kinetic ( movement) by keying it with crown? Where the another end of the already wound spring is connected in the mechanism?

The second wheel (the one the minutes and hours hands are attached) has a pinion on the other side that engages with the barrel teeth. Like at 6:00 but with the second wheel instead of the escapement wheel.

Doesn't really explain well how the hairspring gains energy so soon after the hairspring GIVES energy.
@Enrico-
@Enrico- Год назад
The hairspring's job is to help the balance wheel regulate the march of the gear train. It's not giving energy, it's applying a break to the escape wheel trough the lever. The purpose of the oscillator is to make sure the mainspring doesn't just uncoil at a random pace (or as soon as possible) but at a controlled rate thus ensuring a proper timekeeping.

This demonstrates a "mechanical" watch; but not sure it demonstrates an "automatic" watch.
