the ideia of girls in the 60s going into antique stores and finding pieces from the 1920's that were already 40 years old by then... that impacted me. now they're 100 year's old, and 60s is vintage. time truly does fly by

It was indeed a very different era. I was in high school at the time, so we didn't see a lot of high fashion in school. Girls mostly wore blue jeans. Guys wore jeans too, but the choice was bell bottoms or flairs or straight leg button fly Levis. I hated button fly, but no way was I wearing bell bottoms. Just my observation on the ground at the time.

How do you feel the rock and roll culture affected the everyday lives of ordinary people?
@christopherkeil
@christopherkeil Месяц назад
@@emmabennett7699 Wow - interesting question with a potentially complicated answer. I could write a multipage article on just this subject; however I'll try to keep it brief. One of the things that rock and roll culture does is present a romanticized view of love, life and human interactions. Songs present us with ideas we can identify with and relate to on an emotional level. The cultural aspects of rock and roll culture can bring people together with a common interest in the sounds and sights of a specific moment in time. The music culture also has the power to alter our viewpoints and see diverse ways of thinking about things. So, it can go beyond idealizing life's aspects to causing us to examine how we want to move forward. It can also serve as a way of identifying moments in life in which the music occurred. For example, I can hear a song that was popular at one point in my life and feel transport back to that specific place and period. I remember the people I associated with, the kinds of things we were discussing, the concern about life that we had, even down to the clothing we were wearing. I came from more of a southern California beach culture, so the styles tended to be much more casual - shorts, flip flops, tennis shoes, striped tee-shirts - surfer style stuff. For me, the music serves as signposts on my journey through life. Sorry if I went on a bit long. I tend to do that. But since you asked.

I understand how it looks glamorous, but the majority of these girls were vulnerable young women, often running from abusive homes, sexually exploited and immersed in drug culture. Statutory ra Pe and addiction were the norm. I love this era of rock and roll, and I admire a lot of these women, which is why I’ve read so many first hand accounts…but it’s very, very, very important to remember the misogyny of this era, the rampant casual use of hard drugs, and that the “peace and free love” ideology gradually devolved into a crisis of homelessness, addiction, and violence (circa Altamonte) The fashion and music are still great, but I would highly recommend picking up some rock bios from the era if you want to see the full picture.

Love the idea of the fashion, maybe we need to stop platforming women who are like yes I was a child who had sex with adult men but it was culturally acceptable, and just not keep encouraging that? I’m not a zoomer, the adult men who i thought it was cool to be with were like maybe above average dressers because they had someone funding that. Just let girls and young women find themselves without the pressure of objectification PLEASE

ok I can only speak for the beatles since I'm familiar with their songs. so all those songs about girls are basically inspired by gr*upies I guess... 👁️👄👁️ I always wonder where do they get inspiration to write hundreds of songs about women?? . I know there are some songs dedicated to their partner but even george deny 'something' is not about his wife apparently lmfao 💀 thinking somebody as cute as paul having gr*upies makes my head spin 😔 but oh well...
