Wtf? You might wanna explain to people that means your front drive shaft and both axles will always be spinning ALL THE TIME. more wear and less gas mileage
Your front axles will be engaged at the hub, but they'll still spin free at the transfer case. You're probably looking at a little more wear on the axle seals and shaft joints, and maybe a slight drop in gas mileage. Then again, none of the vehicles that this kit fits are exactly known for their wonderful fuel economy.
@@DormanProducts DODGE BEEN THAT WAY FOR YRS...JEEPS..DAKOTA..RAM..MANY RUN FRONT AXLE ENGAGED..A SMALL PRICE TO PAY ON F150 ..OR YOU CAN BE REPLACING BEARINGS..AXLES..AND ACTUATOR AND BIG COST IN FUTURE... Found out my iwe was dead on an extremely snowy winter klondike camp out. Decided it won't happen again. Installed these with no problems. I really like the fact I can grease these moving parts. Guaranteed to be locked in now. No fuel mileage or turning issues. I do notice the extra vibration from the front drive shaft always turning but thats the point. Can't wait to really try it out.
Can’t wait to try these. I have replaced my iwes twice now within 5 years. The second time I disconnected my hose so they were always locked in and I knew my 4wd would work when I engaged it. I took my truck into the shop for some new wires ran for the abs and they noticed my hoses were unhooked on my iwes (which is what I wanted) so they plugged them back in and causing my iwes to be halfway engaged and ruining them again:/ I’d much rather have my front wheels always locked in then rely on the oem which I’ve seen fail not only on my truck but several other f150s
780brando i could not find these before to save my life and was convinced they didn’t exist!! How are these for you? So they allow you to choose auto or manual or is it one or the other and you have to remove the hub and reverse it
@@MarcusMimo yes, the popping is the weak oem IWE slipping. Dumping them (stock iwes) for this dorman solution or the other one should make it quiet & always at the ready, as it ought to be. I've been happy with mine
Dorman, I just got a pair of these IWE hub actuators installed. Question is, since now my axles are turning all the time do I need to replace the front differential fluid to extend the longevity of the internal components of the front differential?
@@DormanProducts going to ask a dumb question here, so the axles are locked to the hub in 2wd with this IWE delete setup (great concept!) While in 2WD does this mean that the front differential is now also turning gears at the same speed as the rear differential?
Well I am just order this kit wondering what am I expecting with this kit when it comes to wear in the front differential, do I need to change the front differential oil often? Also what axels CV boots should I buy? To keep it for failing something else? thanks
Dorman - can you provide a summary on the benefits of this delete, over the RCV ring? I can imagine being a closed system it prevents element exposure to the CV/hub, but unlike the RCV rings, I imagine it also has the ability to break in the same manner the OE part does?
That is a great question! Here is a link to some more information on this delete. www.dormanproducts.com/p-101732-600-405.aspx If you need any further assistance or have any other questions please call Dorman Products Customer Service at 1-800-523-2492 or e-mail at CRDorman@Dormanproducts.com.
As a corollary to that, you may find this helpful, too. www.dormanproducts.com/pages/products/stories/hub-actuators.aspx A vacuum leak is a little less worrisome when you just have locked hubs all the time. It functions like most people run manual-lock 4WD trucks in the winter. -Lem
Hi , i have enquire I have ford 150 2017, ecopost, i have to much sound come from front tyres , the maintenance toald that to change Actuator, There is permanent solutions?
Hello Khalfan, the 600-405 doesn't work on a 2017 model year F150 and unfortunately we don't have a part available for that year. I will let our product team know of your new product idea. Thank you!
Is yalls OE replacement version of the iwe had a wide contact section? Not the delete kit, yalls vacuum oe replacement yall sale. It would still be a bit of an upgrade if yall have a better/wider/stronger tooth engagement contact area. Please let me know what yalls differences are to oe ford.
Hi Jorge! To your question- no you don't need to hook up that vacuum as it is blocked off. However we leave the hose end cast onto the hub actuator so you can reattach it there when you are ready to use it again and it is out of the way.
Installed this on my 2010 f-150 yesterday. Doesn’t drive any different whatsoever. Happy so far. My only issue is that I wish these came pre-greased or at least have batter instructions on how much grease to put in through the grease fitting. I would have a hard time imagining you can just pump her to the brim with grease. I ended up pre-greasing the part by hand before I installed and then put in another 3 pumps through the fitting. If someone else knows that i need more grease than that it would be nice to know.
Essentially a person could just disconnect the vacuum hoses to the actuators to have them engaged all the time then, no? Unless of course they are stuck in the disconnected position.
This idea makes sense, but we've never tried to use the OEM style vacuum actuator in a constantly locked position to see if it will hold up to every day conditions like we have designed and tested our OE Fix kit to do.
In addition to lower fuel economy, enjoy destroying your u-joints and axle seals every year. If you have auto/lock hubs, putting them in lock is essentially the same as this fix. It doesn't matter if your transfer case is disengaged, U-Joints don't like tight turning radiuses, you're only expected to use them in straight lines or in slippery conditions. 4wd vehicles on dry roads will obliterate front axle u-joints, they're much different than CV axles on AWD vehicles. My wife put new rims on her F-150 that had a center cap that covered her locking hubs. One year it was too cold for the auto hubs so she took the caps off put it in lock, put the caps back on, and never switched them back to auto. The U-Joints went bad that summer, so I replaced them. The next year, it happened again, this time the bad u-joints ruined the inner axle seals, outer dust seals, and carrier bearings too, but I at least noticed the hubs were on lock this go around. All her diff fluid was leaking onto her brakes through the axles when cornering, making it hard to stop, that's finally when she told me there was something wrong. Fixed it, threw away her center caps, and painted the hubs black to match her rims. U-joints and seals have been good since...
PUT SET OF THESE IN TRUCK FOR FRIEND AFTER REPLACING ACTUATOR AND BEARING 6 MONTHS AGO..AND DOING IT AGAIN TODAY AFTER EATING UP BEARING......AT 700 DOLLARS CANADIAN FOR BEARING HUB THE 300 FOR THIS KIT AND ELIMINATING FUTURE ISSUES IS NO BRAINER...WORKS AMAZING..CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT FRIEND THINKS AFTER DAY IN THE MUD...HE IS OILFIELD OPERATOR AND ALWAYS IN NASTY PLACES..
After installation I lost 2mpg. I drive approx. 500 - 1000 miles a week, so this is significant. Plus the added noise from the axles always being engaged is kind of annoying to me. After about 3000 miles on these Dormans, I'm switching back to OE.
Hey Bruce, sorry to hear that. This solution might not be for everyone, and it's good to know that going into it. Just FYI, we do also have a direct replacement that doesn't delete the vacuum functionality: www.dormanproducts.com/gsearch.aspx?type=oesearch&origin=oesearch&q=7L1Z-3C247-A
Yep that seems a good fix but there will be another issue - these trucks are 4wd, they are not intended to be awd all the time, so you will also get faster wear of front differential. Correct me if I am wrong
Hey George, no problem, common misperception (and probably not a good enough explanation on our part). Locking the hubs doesn't engage the 4WD. Here's an additional explanation on our website: static.dormanproducts.com/document/600-405_case-study.pdf

for FUCK sakes guys THIS DOES NOT LOCK IT IN 4WD!!!! FRONT DRIVE SHAFT NEEDS TO BE SPINNING THE DIF TO BE IN 4WD 2WD WILL BE FREE SPINNING AT THE T-CASE!!!
Hello! Unfortunately we do not list them fitting. We base our applications off of the OEM part numbers it would fit. Unfortunately that supersession stops at 2015 model year.
Hi Jason, great question! These are all the recommended parts that we offer for a 2018 Ford F-150. www.dormanproducts.com/gsearch.aspx?year=2018&make=Ford&model=F-150&origin=YMM
Hey Grant, sorry for late reply, you can get most up-to-date applications for this part here: www.dormanproducts.com/p-101732-600-405.aspx. As of this comment, looks like our research is showing this would not fit a 2016 model.
Hi Jorge, part # 600-405 locks the hubs continuously, removing the failure prone vacuum system from them, but unfortunately it will not do what you are looking it to do.
