The sheer number of comments I have had to personally approve because the RU-vid system flags them as inappropriate is incredibly funny to me. Especially with some of the things y'all say. I knew what I was running headfirst into, and you brave souls just say the first thought that comes to mind.
Cool thing about capoeira is it’s origins. It was developed in Brazil by the enslaved to look like a type of dancing, so that it could be practiced in the open without their oppressors knowing what they were actually doing (training to kick their asses)
Maybe they were based off Yuyu Hakasho or Jojos delinquents, where they were righteous at heart but socially a menace and Pandas were based of the more aggressive ones @@KrillikVA
It does take me back when I was 9 playing my first pokemon game. I chose Fennikin and had it the whole game as a Delphox. I think I remember kid me renicknaming her Mom cause I kept imagining snuggling up to my starter on rainy days. Away rule 34 for my wholesome mind of the past was an enigma!
The fall if Gardevoir in my eyes has to be studied because it really was just a cute little alien creature in my eyes at first. And I grew more attached to the line thanks to Wally's Gallade in ORAS. To the point where I replayed the game with a male Ralts and didn't evolve it until the final Wally battle so I could have my Gallade. Then I saw the art. One of my favorite lines got ruined for me and my innocence was shattered.
Lopunny, Tsareena, and Salazzle: the three Pokemon whose designs and origins are literally about the subject and concept of sex and people's interaction and relationship with it. The three Pokemon that you cannot tell me that Game Freak and Nintendo did not know what they were doing making them.
@@Starriaaa Nope, for example in Alola we see a guy buying a water stone for his girlfriend that he is worried about evolving. Then we also have two girls checking out a machamp. Also the first instance I can recall of HumanxPokemon happened before Sinnoh was even a thing,
@jamaldavis2480 ya know, I'm very tempted to do a follow up to this as a video involving the full history of the relationships between humans and pokemon because of this exact thread of comments. Gonna add it to the list, luckily I've read a few books on this stuff lol
@@KrillikVA Could definitley make for an interesting video, but I'm not sure how long it would be given that the examples of canonical relationships or attractions of this type is pretty sparse. Likely due to the targeted demographic of the series.
i know all of that and more about my Wifu Gardevoire. i want to add to look at Elves in Norse Mythology, the actual Mythology, there is no intentional design but incidental design
5:08 Hey now! I thought this was gonna be SFW? Why are you talking about Lopunny like that? 😉 All jokes aside , great video as always! Thoroughly researched, well put together, and nuanced takes all around. You did it bro; you took the waifus and made them wholesome again! Good job!!!
I know that Jynx's appearance is seen as being problematic in many cultures due to it looking like black face, but it is actually based on the gyaru fashion of Japan. Often with gyaru, women will dye their hair blonde and use make up to make their skin tan. Gyaru is set in counterculture going against the collectivist values that Japan has where people are existed to blend in with everyone else with woman being expected to have black hair and pale skin. I know that jynx's design is problematic and that it is good that it was changed, but it is good to know why it is/was the way it is and its connection to gyaru fashion.
I sincerely adore humanoid Pokémon and think they're among some of the strongest designed mons... But its really hard to say that when my favorite among the group is Tsareena (Idk if its a part of the human-like egg group but it is a part of the trend of plant women pokemon)
Can you do a video about Pokemon that wear “clothes” and whether or not the “clothes”are actual clothes or part of their skin? I think you could also extend this topic to Pokemon that use “tools” and whether these “tools” are found, built, or just apart of them through natural evolution? If you already have a similar video lmk cuz i’d love to watch it
I don't have those as videos actually! I do have a "pokemon explained/theories" Playlist alongside some others on my homepage, but "fashion and pokemon" may have to go on my list! Alongside the others!
They are fairly worth noting, but they aren't considered part of the human-like egg group. Just like how Tyrogue was intentionally not included! Also I'd feel uncomfortable considering the pokemon are depicted as young in comparison to their final evolutions
Tsareena's discussion page on Bulbapedia is hilariously boring compared to that whole trivia section. Like no one wants to even attempt to touch that, lol. I think what's even funnier is reading the trivia's super neutral tone and seeing how respectful and tasteful it is. I mean, it's a wiki, it's supposed to be neutral but it's the Internet...
I love Mr mime i’d say it’s my favorite Pokémon maybe only behind oranguru which is a freebie only because I love orangutans also I’m very fond of throh another unpopular Pokémon I think I’m just really fond of primate/humanlike Pokémon
Thank you! Honestly, I will always say what I say when people say this, tell your friends about the channel! I only recently started making these long form video essays, but I also have 2 other playlists that include full games cut down and narrated (supercuts) and me going through and reacting to the pokemon series, and even stream every wed/Fri! Thank you once again!
Arboliva may also be based on the story of how Athens got its name. Basically how Athens got its name was Athena and Poseidon both wanted to name Athens after themselves so they had a contest of who could give the city the more useful thing Poseidon made a salt water spring while Athena made an olive tree obviously Athena won
Pawniard, Bisharp and Kingambit also look like tokusatsu villains. Pawniard look like weak minions, Bisharp like a powerful rival to the heroes and Kingambit like the big bad that is almost always sitting down and plotting schemes.
Thanks for aging me with doodle bears... you unlocked an old childhood memory. *sad 30s+ sigh* Fantastic video and the hawlucha excitement is real lol One day we will get a Coqui pokemon for us lol
YEEESSSS QUIERO EL COQUI Let me age you further by reminding you of the Coqui song from Dragon Tales Closest we have is Crogunk as it is a poison dart frog based Pokemon, but I want MORE
Just looked it up, the whole thing with Uri Geller and Kadabra actually prevented new Kadabra cards from being printed until he apologized and rescinded his complaints toward the card. It wasn't anything legal that stopped them from printing new Kadabra cards, Nintendo just chose not to print them because of it, presumably to try to avoid Uri taking legal measures.
Imma new fan but u should make a video explaining/ theorizing bout Pokemon eco systems. Make them a ecosystem per vid so u don’t go crazy nd could farm views😉
Nah, don't worry I have the next video coming out this Thursday but I have a TON of research and work going on between 3 different videos so it's just a small deluge and then no uploads for probs a week or two. Streams will still happen though. Hope ya enjoy!
I always thought pokemon like Gardevoir, Deoxys or Incineroar perfectly show what the pokemon is. Pokemon is not just an animal with magical powers, like eeveelutions, they're monsters and one of the most popular kind of monsters in mythology are humanoid animals or intelligent creatures, that look almost like humans or even descended from them. It's actually part of my headcanon, that almost all humanoid pokemon are alternative species of human.
1:03:00 I dunno if you know this Krillik but carbuncle is also the term for a….lets say, *unwanted sac of liquid in skin with multiple openings, usually caused by staph bacteria*. No idea how gems and gem terminology became the word for this bundle of pain, but it did.
I actually didn't! I could look at the origin of the name for carbuncle in Latin America to find out though and I might have to between research topics
ERM, AKSHULLY, Gardevoir isn't in the HUMAN-LIKE EGG GROUP. It's in the AMORPHOUS EGG GROUP. This definitely won't be mentioned at some point in the video I didn't finish watching before writing this comment!
Wanna add a fun fact about Blaziken. It is indeed inspired by Muay Thai because in Thailand is home to not only Muay Thai but also (illegal) Cock Fighting.
32:01 don't even get into that, incredible powers of destruction aside, we know they have close to or more than human intellect, so **owning** just any pokemon in general would be questionable at best and owning any humanoid pokemon i think is borderline indefensible and i say borderline to give myself some wiggle room
Honestly, I'll be the first to admit I have a big nose and some round glasses alongside the thicker mustache. I've been searching for the glasses I like more buuuut no luck as of late No offense taken, so no worries, if anything it's funny to me too lol
Carny means people who work at a carnival or manage it It also means black in Lower Sorbian, but this video is in English so that’s fine I think? Idrk I just read Wikipedia for 3 minutes
Trying to tell someone you genuinely, innocently, love the vibe of Gardevoir, Lopunny, and a lot of the other humanoid pokemon because they're just cool is so annoying @@ I'm ace, man. Let me think the bunny is pretty and cool and gender goals, man. I wanna be her friend, mind outta the gutter >:T /silly
As someone who has Hattena (and all its line), Meowscarada and Lilligant among his favorites (alongside Galarian Ponyta, Blissey, Clefable, Yamper, Mareep, Munchlax, almost the entire Eevee line [except for Jolteon] and others fluffy/round/squishy/"girly"-like/friend-shaped pokemon) and tend to "gender lock" certain pokemon (if I catch a male Oddish, he WILL BE a Vileplume, if it's a she then will be a Bellossom, for example), I felt personally attacked 😂 Jokes aside tho (well, sort of), I dunno how I wasn't subscribed yet after watching your video about the food chain three freaking times 😶🤦🏻 Edit: On a side note. You commented something about Mr. Mime being Fairy-type. After the CRIME they commited putting that ugly goblin as Fairy, I won't even try to argue with GameFreak... I just hate 'em for that
I'm hoping ya don't actually feel too called out lol Tbh I have specific names for pokemon myself but never think of gender. Like Goggles for Flygon line, Atlas for Dragonite, and so on. Let alone the names that are immortalized from nuzlockes on the channel But thanks for watching that many times oh my gosh lol, and subscribing! Here's to hoping many others realize they aren't subbed and want to!
@@KrillikVA I'm not a native English speaker and most of what I know comes from media itself, so sometimes I have to rewind a lot or just straight out rewatch something if I really wanna absorb what I'm listening to, soooo... yeah, that explains this part And I didn't ACTUALLY felt called out. I mean, I know most of my favs are kinda sus but that's not the reason I like them, so my conscience is clean xD I dunno why I care so much about the whole gender thing tbh, is something that I have in me since I first played pokemon (believe it was Crystal my first game, maybe FireRed... not sure, has been a while) and never gave it too much thought. I keep rolling with it tho I have a similar thing with names too, I'll always name Roselia after really poisonous plants, like Belladonna or something, or give food names to cat-looking pokemon cuz my three cats are named after my favorite desserts, previous mentioned Galarian Ponyta will always have a My Little Pony reference in its name and so on 🤷🏻
waifus you missed: Ampharos, Goodra, Salazzle, Zangoose, Feraligatr, Charizard, and more. idc if you're not a furry, idc if you're not a degenerate type weeb, you're not worthy of a subscrition if as a "professor" with that lab coat, you cant do the due diligence to portray yourself as one in a style of video like this. (this is a joke btw, make a followup if u agree tho ;p
You are a bold one, I respect your furry based bravery In order to protect my sanity and balance, info, and coverage with waifu vs. furry/scalie/etc was a tightrope
@@KrillikVA more of a balance beam vs a tightrope, you either like or dislike it, im more neutral nowadays. not sure if its the exposure to the furry fandom or if its just overall age and experience online, but theres worse things to like than furries and furries are on the bottom of that food chain tbh.
to not forget stuff take more breakes when writing or filming your videos and/or plan your notes out better that definition of human egg group is not good. A lot of pokemon are bipedal like charizard and blastoise, by that definition beedrill and wigglytuff are human-like. electabuzz is a tiger skin wearing oni, Lockstin & Gnoggin has a lot of videos if you want in-depth origins
Unfortunately none of those are in the human-like egg group though! Anything after the "human-like and other egg group" section, were just a few special cases
@@snakesan520 hm, I know all legendaries in Pokemon are genderless, mewtwo being mostly being performed with masculine voice (don't know japanese dub), would think there would be more masculine stuff out there in spaces.
That is mostikely a case of common andestry, if you compare it to humans and other apes it is also true, darwinuan evolution is a thing the pokemon world has
