Wow, the speed of the dialog is so incredibly fast! The breakdown of slang is so helpful and fun to learn, and my gosh, between the constant slang and the extremely fast pace of speaking, I realize now just how much of a beginner I must be in French... Way more so than I thought! 😆

You should explain the lyrics to an Angèle song like "Tout Oublier". I know she's Belgian, but I'm curious to know if they use any different types of words/slang in Belgium as opposed to France.

Somehow I enjoy this kind of french more than the "original classical" one... Also every time when we discuss music preferences at our french classes (in Moscow) with new teacher.. when I say "I like music like Aya Nakamura does" - the teachers have never heard about her... Makes me upset a bit because I feel they need to get more inclusive because they only know the white part of the french culture.. I am not sure if they have friends from different francophone cultures or African Diaspora.. Like Mali, DRC etc. And it is always maximum 1/2 of the page dedicated to Francophone countries in the textbook! Merci!
@Sea97
@Sea97 4 года назад
the only thing I dont get.. you always say "it is slang, young people use it" and then make a comparison with your dad who is in his 60s.. but what about the group of people between "young" (and how much is "young"? 28 would be young? 35? 40?) and your dad's age? 😂 i mean, those in 30-40s also use it or they speak the more "classical" way?
@Street_French
@Street_French 4 года назад
ah yeah I understand why she doesn't know about Aya Nakamura, she probably doesn't keep up with the latest trends no? I don't think it only has to do with being incluse. But it's cool you can share other parts of the French culture with your class ^^ and for the age yeah I guess I could also include some people who are in their forties. Ususally I mention people in my life, but I'll try to mention other people who are in between me and my dad lol.

Hey, great videos, I have a suggestion. You should do a video talking about french music videos and how almost all of the time, they have 1-5 minutes mini "movies". In America, we sometimes do that but it's much more common in french music videos.

The term CV is also used in the US, but typically for academic or research positions - it’s like a long form resume including publications, presentations, grants, fellowships, etc. Whereas a 1-2 page resume is used for most other office-type jobs.

I really enjoy your videos, and I do learn from some of them, but maybe a tip would be to use more french in them. For example a follow a few podcasts, and they try to explain words in french, but using simpler language, and sometimes, they'll say the word in English, but will use much more french. Anyway not a criticism just a tip.

Oh you should do the really old songs. I listen to them a lot since so many have easy lyrics. I learnt how to pronounce the French R (not the dry one, the proper one) by listening to Edith Piaf (particularly Non rien de rien and La vie en rose) over and over and over again. Also that other song Ne me quitte pas by Jacques Brel and by Mayasa Mattarazzo. Very iconic songs that many English speakers have heard somewhere or the other. I think Non rien de rien is in one of the Madagascar movies (3?).

Another famous ones I thought of that English speakers would know is by Dalida: Pour te dire je t'aime and Reviens moi (which is the French version of Last Christmas)

Oh my God, please do not try to speak/learn french through her songs, that's a very bad example :( (not to mention that the girl has no class whatsoever, she's rude, and is so big headed), she's an insult to french music. You'd rather learn french through Mylène Farmer's songs, she's a real artist, amazing, and her lyrics are so meaningful...Up to you.
