Hey Beasty, just wanted to say. Super cool you found new groove in AOE4. Been following you for few years watching SC2. Big fan and happy for you. Also great content as always!
I love how neutral and unbiased this rundown was. Each civ has its own pros and cons and which will suit you depends on your play style. That’s the mark of a great strategy game and I’m super happy you’re loving it. I downloaded it last night and after a few rounds, French seems to work well for me so far.
As a mongol main player, I gotta say I agree with your review on mongols, but there is some things I disagree with as well. You saying the Deer Stones is a must, I find it rather useless? It's only good for Feudal Age and if you are going for a early push, and especially in 1v1 games. But in castle age you can research the "Yam Network" anyway, rendering the deerstone rather useless. I find the Silver Tree far better and more versatile for the Mongols, because it gives you the option to go do a very explosive booming and reach imperial age almost immediately or do very strong push as you have the gold econ to make enough cavalry and mangudai to keep complete map controll. Combined with upgrades and raiding squishy buildings such as houses and camps, you can get a even stronger econ. I don't know, each to their own mongol style play. I love early DR, but I also like teamgames. Also I don't know if you know about this, but your trade caravan still works even when the silver tree is packed. meaning you can move your traderoute leisurely without unpacking the tree, so whenever you see enemies getting into the backlines, you can always move the direction of your caravan route to try avoid the enemies armies intersecting it. Also wish you talked more about navy. I love Navy maps, and Mongol navy is definitely my top favourite navy to play. as Piracy is so ludicrously strong for the mongols if you play it right xD
Meta Ranks 1. Rus / Mongol 3. Chinese 4. French 5. English / HRE 7. Abbasid / Delhi Casual Ranks 1. French / Chinese 3. Rus / English / Mongol 6. HRE / Delhi / Abbasid
Beastyqt please read this. You look good in the suit on the thumb nail you should absolutely stream in a suit like that just once and least I would love to see it.
I told blizzard in a sc2 post years ago "as soon as anyone makes anything your games is dead" and here we are no more free units no more bainlings no more infinity range instant seige into invisibility no more
Regarding HRE age 4 landmark 'palace of swabia'; its villager production speed is reduced by 75%, which doesn't mean 75% faster but actually 300% faster
If one garrisons a camel inside a keep, does the camel still do AOE debuff to enemy calv? If so, it would be smart to have a camel inside important keeps?
I've got a lot of abbasid experience, and from what I can tell they struggle to get to the point where they thrive. The early games often where they lose, cuz once the eco is up its pretty underrated imo
Zzzz you’ve never played China huh… imperial officials can also supervise buildings which makes the building produce 3X as fast. So clocktower is producing at 3 siege workshop speed
china is OP. It has the most amount of unique units, most of which are the best on their categories. Moreover, they have a ridiculous amount of bonuses and buffs coming from their 12 available landmarks, plus a plethora of unique techs
@@cerberus4545 I have now seen a few Wololos now. It's pretty much a game ending move that could remove your entire army. gg Why isn't beasty doing it all the time?
All units 10% hp. The castle age bonus is better. 15% movement speed for ALL units (including workers.) is a better combat bonus and a better Econ bonus that 10% hp. It’s best to hit imperial dynasty, then turn around and build the castle age map hacks for the speed bonus
Valuable vid. I It would be even better if you very briefly mentioned + and - of civ you are picking on the start of game. I guess on stream ppl are better informed since they see more. But here on YT with occasional video we would be better in if you just say - I choose this civ because of this and this. I also have to be careful about this and that. At lease in this transitional stage.
@49:40 does the imperial officer really speed up the resource collection at a given building when he supervises? I don't see any evidence that they do that, which would mean either they speed up the villagers themselves or the building invflates what the vill turns in. I thought it only helps w upgrade speed and unit production.
How many apm does AoE take compared to Starcraft? I played a lot of Starcraft in the past but now I mostly play warhammer 2 which is a lot less micro intensive but each action is more important because units are less responsive so you’re often committing to a battle. Micro has never been my strong suit, but with some practice I can usually average around 200/230 apm when playing Zerg. I guess I’m asking because sometimes i find Starcraft very tiring emotionally and physically and I’m wondering if I should also make the jump to AoE.
You could say I'm very new to RTS games, I've had very limited experience in WC3 and AoE3. AoE4 was a bit hard at first but I would say it's a bit more relaxed now that I know what I'm doing lol. I honestly don't know much about my APM but it's probably below average lol
I’m glad to hear new people are coming to the rts genre, honestly apm isn’t something you should worry about because it comes naturally with practice. I’m glad to hear I don’t need to worry to much though. I’m just way to competitive for my own good.
The answer here lies in how long beasty streams. His sc2 stream duration is 3 hours on average, simply because he was totally exhausted afterwards. With AoE4 it's 7+ hours on average. It's slower, and thus strategy is more important. Micro plays a smaller role in AoE, and although it can give you an advantage it's not necessarily crucial. The benefit of multi tasking abilities, and multi pronged attacks while macroing is pretty universal in rts. So you might find yourself with the same amount of APM, but less of that spent on microing small units. That might be less exhausting, I'm not sure. (This is based on what I've seen and heard on stream, I haven't played AoE4 myself)
Beasty you are my favourite Russian video game gamer except for MaxPax and David Kim, looking forward to the reign of AOE4 and the inevitable Scout only to grandmaster. добар дан
Avilo said when he plays a game he's the only strength. Everybody else is weekness and cannot beat him in a game unless they hack or stream snipe. If I recall beastyqt beat avilo.
For some reason it doesn’t seem like the camels debuff applies to horse archers. Just watched a game stream where Aussie_Drongo was shocked to find that out
Lol noob, no, China worker production isn’t 30% faster in song dynasty… its 35% reduced worker build time. It’s the equivalent of 50% faster. 2TC=3TC exactly
This is what a lot of your viewers have been asking for. This could have been very helpful if it came two weeks ago before all the videos of you crushing the ladder. But better late than never. Love your insights. Also, a lot of your subscribers are SC2 players, so this video is more meaningful than those long fights that looked fun but probably didn't make sense to the SC2 players. Thanks for this video.
Uuhhh the F? Completely wrong. You want open flat maps for China. Dry Arabia is your best friend, that and water maps. China has best castle and imperial age naval units
