Man, when I tried learning Mongols, I used to get the improved eco upgrades as soon as I could. It was bad, and I played so much worse with Mongols than my other civs as a result. I eventually just figured out from watching gameplay and from my own experiences that double production and other upgrades were a better use of the limited stone trickle until the stone bounty and/or stone trade came in.

Hey, please do the guide for Mongols upgrade, that would be awesome. Mongols with trade and towers may worth lvl1 improve broadx. Maybe even you can add with a second TC to make the most out of it. ty

I usually take forestry only if I need to clear room for keeps or other big buildings. I always take so much room with my bases for some reason 😅

Forestry is extremely important on Oasis. You will just chop a straight line down to the water. It also can be payed out if you are playing with Rus and put your hunting cabins in the center of the woods...

I like getting the improved upgrades with mongol as soon as possible and then trying to force my opponent to fight in fuedal as my eco will be superior

I've not been playing long and played a lot of AoE2. My problem point is that I keep making villagers but at a certain point I don't know what to do with them all. Like, about the time castle age hits I queue the TC on a gold, stone or tree resource and get distracted in a fight and then I look up and have 50 idles.

Anyone in comment section knows what food sources to prioritize? shore fish is great but is sheep faster than berries? beer than early farm? is fully upgraded farm the fastest? i'd like to know this to make sure i use best options for particular moment

If you have access to everything, Shoreline > boar > deer > sheep > berries > farms. Farms is only last because it is quite an investment. English sometimes skip berries to make farms because they have cheap farms.

About wheelbarrow. If you play China - won't this upgrade harm your eco? Because you will get 33% less taxes from dropoff building which is like 50% of all China taxes.

Like u gather 1240 recources, build nest of bees (600) + 8 spearman (640). Without wheelbarrow - u will get 100 taxes from dropoffs and 64 from barracks (with IA). With wheelbarrow you will get 66 from dropoffs and 64 from barracks (with IA). So you lose 20% of all your taxes which is 15% of your recources gathered (in general). It reduced the gathering rate by 3%

It is a valid talking point, but I think you have to account for three more things: 1. As Beasty said Wheelbarrow is not an eco-upgrade alone (do you save villager? China is often subject to raids, so wheelbarrow creates value in this department). 2. Did you account for the higher effective gathering rate due to less walking time (speed buff + carry capacity)? 3. Total res comparison is not always the most useful. In feudal, gold is less valuable (though less so for China if you go Zhuge Nu). So it could be valuable again to trade gold efficiency for wood/food efficiency

The analysis of forestry was kind of blegh, why not just calculate the percentage increase in gathering rate over the course of harvesting a tree. One villager on one tree gets 100 wood in 102 chops rather than 104. So it's about 2% faster wood gathering rate. Simple as that. No need to complicate it with "ohh if you have lots of villagers then blah blah blah." 2% fewer units of labor per resource, move on. Try and be a little more scientific, you're presumably talking to an audience of nerds.

As he said, the gather rate is 2% faster for a single villager, once you have 4 villagers on the same tree (which will happen 100% of your games) they will chop down the tree instantly assuming they hit the tree at the same time. This upgrade make the difference if you split your villagers on trees, like 2 villagers per tree, but it’s clearly impossible to play like this during a whole game
