Staff at South Halls Head Primary School were concerned about their NAPLAN data, and determined that an explicit teaching approach was the best way to address the issues in their school. A critical component of this approach is providing feedback to students to progress their learning, as well as using that information to adjust teaching to meet student needs. Teachers use a range of feedback practices including learning goals and success criteria, self-assessment and peer-feedback, pre- and post-unit tests, and check-in activities to gauge student understanding.
