Bonjour,
Come with me on a visit of the medieval town of Arnay-le-Duc in Burgundy. We discover its lake and some beautiful old pictures of what it looked like over 100 years ago.
Hope you enjoy this one!

I'm loving the stroll around villages and showing the history of before and after. It give the village a heart that has never ceased to stop ! We are just custodians of these period homes and shops but without us these relics would just blend back to Mother Earth

Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here. I loved your surprise video!! Like you, I love to see old photographs of familiar places and compare them. It's what history is made of, really...people just going about their daily lives. If only more people wrote down their memories.

I was watching a documentary on Neanderthal people and it is believed France was one of the last places of their habitation. Indeed it’s been occupied a very long time.

I truly loved this video!! My French great grandfather was a photographer so on top of your tour of past & present..I enjoyed all the old pictures and also of the photography shop! The buildings are so beautiful.. and how wonderful that in the summer you have the gatherings in the square. Your area seems so nice and peaceful. It's so overcrowded in California where I live.. this looks like bliss to me! Sorry you couldn't get your errands run but it sure was a wonderful video..💕 merci xx

I enjoy old photos and comparing them to the same scenes today. In fact, I have an old magazine of my town and surrounding area in Nova Scotia, Canada from the same timeframe as your old photos shown here. I enjoy the challenge of finding the old buildings in my community that remain after 100 to 150 years of changes. These photo plaques and corresponding viewing spots are a wonderful idea and would be an interesting addition to my town! I so enjoy your channel. All of it! Merci pour tout ce que vous faites pour notre plaisir!

Wow, such a different world compared to us in Canada, being that Europe is so much older. Amazing that some or most of the buildings you showed are still intact after many, many years! As I’ve said in a previous comment to you in another video, I was awestruck by our first ever visit to France (or Europe for that matter!) in 2008 and had walked on many cobblestone streets that so many others had walked for thousands of years! Thank you for the tour around Burgundy!

You can visit larger library and historical archives where these records hold old photographs of these places. It is very interesting in that so much time has passed but a lot better of the town square & surrounding village remains the same.

Interesting how our lands develop in similar fashion/different times. In my state, early structures were log cabins/clapboard houses from french trappers. We still have them preserved in museum settlements in Northern Wisconsin...around lakes. As populations grew and labor became available, stone was mined/cement was produced. Towns were created similar to where you are just later...around rivers for mills. Kind of calming to revisit our heritages. Thanks for another great video. Regards from Wisconsin 🐄

Bummer. I lost my comment so I am binging on a few videos that I missed earlier. It is climbing to 97 degrees so I will go dip in condo pool in a bit and then over to friend's home to water her plants while she is out of town. Your videos are always so interesting and informative. Greetings from Western Oregon, USA😎

Wat een leuke verassing zeg… Arnay-le-Duc.

Such a fun turn of events though. Is that the city that you do most of your shopping in or is that just a small city close by for a few things here and there? Is that the same place where you got your tea?
@FrenchCountryLife
@FrenchCountryLife Год назад
It’s a small village but it does have 3 supermarkets, a small hardware store and cafés, bakeries etc but I definitely can’t find everything there. It is not the same village where I get my tea, that is much smaller.

Is there a historic law on these stores and homes, that you cannot knock them down or alter the facade and internals ? thank you :)

I know some villages and some buildings are more protected than others. In our village you can do anything you want to an old house but in the local wine villages for example you can’t and things like paint colors you can use are limited.

Thank you for sharing these videos of France...QUESTION...why do all scenes of rural life seem so desolate? Barely any people or movement. Buildings, so.e cars but sometimes no people or very few. Seems lonely. Clean and lovely structures but lonely.
@FrenchCountryLife
@FrenchCountryLife Год назад
On the pictures or in the video? In my videos I try to avoid filming people so I usually wait until everyone’s out of the frame if I can. Not everyone wants to be on RU-vid 😁 Apart from me intentionally filming when it’s empty, I have found the area where we live is quiet, except on market days, events or in busier or bigger villages and cities. This village is very small and on a weekday people are at work and not in town I guess. I really enjoy it though, I don’t deal with the busyness and noise of the city very well anymore. What I’ve learned also is that sometimes a village looks deserted but in reality lots of people live there. If you come at lunchtime for example you’ll see less people except in cafés as everyone is having lunch and shops are closed. I never experience that emptiness as lonely though. There’s a difference between alone and lonely. I guess we all prefer and like different things!
@teresitastidem2846

Thank you for the explanation. It is not just your videos. I've noticed this in other youtube videos. And the thought of lonely came to mind. Like some places in Italy it's said that only the older people are left and many of the buildings are empty. There are people from the US that are buying properties and moving in or have air bnb. As I said the structures I feel are lovely. I love quiet with an occasional hustle and bustle that city life offers. Just curious about the life their in your villages. I live in Pennsylvania US, in a relatively small town that is always busy in some parts and quiet in others. Well again thank you for responding. Peace and Blessings Be with you.

I avoid filming people but other than that yes, small villages here are quiet, especially around lunchtime (except cafés and restaurants)
