Pendragon castle home to ghosts, myths and legends and a link to King Arthur?
Not far from the Lammerside castle which was in the last Castles of Britain Video ( • Medieval ruins of Lamm... ) Lies Pendragon, the name conjures up Myth and Legend connected to King Arthur. His Father is said to have built a castle here in the 5th century. With ghost stories and bags of character, lets have a look at this beautiful ruin in its stunning location by the River Eden in Mallerstang Vale, Cumbria.
Why not take the kids during the School holidays and get them away from that computer and fire their imagination.

Well on the subject of ghosts - when my kids were young we visited Dolbedarn castle in North Wales which is a single tower style Welsh Princes castle. As we stood in the bottom of the empty tower looking up at the sky & the windows in the walls, my eldest son, about 8 at the time, suddenly pulled at my clothes & whispered "Mom did you see the man standing there ?" - there was nobody in the castle but ourselves, but he still swears to this day that he did see somebody !!! That tower has since been repaired, there are now outside stairs up to the first floor door which I saw when I researched it online recently, I haven't been back there, but it looks as tho they may have restored it. This is all happened around 1969 or so when there were no outside steps, and just a broken wall opening in the bottom to get inside. I often wonder who's ghost he saw ! We naturally did not hang around long after that ! This Pendragon castle is interesting, I do believe in King Arthur !

I'm into science and history and I can enjoy a good ghost story but I find ghosts damn inconvenient. I would practice archery at a local Potter's Field or cemetery for the unclaimed. Nobody would visit and no grave stones to break my arrows. One day after many strange happenings, my arrow exploded in mid air. I watched a leaf turn a perfect circle far from any trees. Sounds flaky but it was precision clockwork. I fell asleep there once and later that day I became someone else 3 times for 3 different personalities. Now I know! I still don't believe in King Arthur !

Pendragon means "dragon head", and if you are a 6th century peasant in Britain who has never seen a Roman legionary's helmet, then it might look like a dragon's head to you, with its large crest atop. In the 6th century Britain was full of abandoned Roman military ware, and Uter might have worn a Roman helmet which has made quite an impression on the people, and the nickname "dragon head" stuck.

King Arthur is real to most children. As they age they find he is a fictional character.....but, for me, he's very real. His name may not be Arthur, but he did exist. Too many similar stories from different sources have all agreed that he lived.

Hello my good friend.. I'd like to say that I've been subscribed to your channel for a while but I haven't today is my first subscription while watching Pendragon castle 🏰 I've actually been here multiple times some years ago.. I was visiting lammerside castle. But then I was a paranormal investigator and parapsychologist.. yes that seems like a life time ago but I reverted back to military career only several months ago returned home from Ukraine. My reason why I send you comment is simply because it's a great video as you have certainly put lots of work into the editing. I just like to say that I will be sticking around. Lammerside castle was a great experience for me and my small team. Lots of strange things happen to us but this was way back in 2008 or 09. We stayed there for a few days in my LT35 campervan and we paid many visits to Pendragon. I don't remember the undercroft or the v being fixed in anyway so this must be a recent upgrade to the castles keeping and it's awesome to see people are trying to keep history. So thank you for everything you've done.. and I look forward to watching many more of your Eastwood.. any relation, you knew I was going to ask if you were related to Clint.. ok maybe you might not see that funny but I do apologise.. so yeah great work look forward to coming in on many more and I hope all of the videos are similar..

Visited this castle many times. What a wonderful spot and a great video. Yes, I do believe people can see ghost images but what they are looking at is a holographic image trapped in time and only viewed when the lighting.conditions are perfect. What we are seeing is an actual image of a person or event trapped in time.

Cool to see the very pronounced motte in your drone footage! That's something you can't see as pronounced from on the ground. It's really clear why they call it the most romantic Castle ruin. Love it! Also, king Arthur: real. But his legends are probably An amalgamation of heroic stories, related to multiple or maybe no real People at all. It's the same with a lot of early christian saints 🙂

There is usually a core element of truth in ancient legends - in fact, oral transmission is often more reliable than written, Schliemann, for example, found the site of Troy from the descriptions in the Iliad, not the right level, but the site and that from the written text recording the oral tradition maintained over hundreds of years. It is highly likely that there was a Romano- British warlord who resisted the Saxons, although the embroidery of the Round Table, the Grail Quest, etc are far more dubious.

What a shame that no one could afford to keep up this remarkable piece if history. As for Arthur, I definitely believe he was real. Perhaps he was a Roman soldier who stayed behind and was experienced in the most modern warfare of the time. Perhaps he was a Celt who was trained by the Romans. Maybe Uther was as well, but most legends have some basis in fact.

The (?) question mark in the title. There has been so many stories regarding King Arthur. The French created the Arthurian Romances - they added the jousting knights of medieval times plus Guinevere and Lancelot. If they had wrote the story today - it would be footballers round the table and Posh and Beckham.

The obvious question is - when was the castle first given the name 'Pendragon'? It's unlikely that the Normans called it that so all the fanciful stories linking the castle with Uther were, no doubt, created in the medieval heyday of Arthurian myth making. The 'official' sites don't give an answer. PS. That fount of all knowledge Wikipedia gives a date of 1309.
