I traveled around that area 35 years ago There were basically no tourists, glad I made it before mass tourism arrived, but definitely a beautiful area maybe the most beautiful place in Thailand

I went to Maya Bay in 2002 and it was fantastic! About as many people as are there now in the afternoon and back then boats were allowed. Mostly Longtail and as you came around the corner it was breathtaking. And then mass-tourism ruined the experience in the years after. I'm so glad the Thai Government shut it down for 3 years I believe and came back with a sustainable tourism plan. It looks fantastic again!

Have visited that area 3 times including that beach...my last visit paid a long boat owner for the day and snorkeled all around the islands...fabulous!

Thanks for taking me back to Maya bay and Koh Kai. I fell in love with Maya bay as soon as I reached there. Last time, I was at Maya bay in 2018 before it got shut down. I was at Koh Kai in 2010. The most amazing part was that only me and few local friends were there barbecuing seafood on the beach one particular night. Those local small shops still look the same!

Great video Chris and Adam! I've been going to Phi Phi every year (or multiple times a year) since 2000. It's always an amazing place. It's definitely gotten more crowded, but nothing better than taking a longtail boat out for a day around the islands and bays.

Absolutely amazing beauty. After living in Hawai'i for 20 years, and traveling to Australia, the Philippines, and Guam this is truly one of the best-looking beaches I have seen. Cant wait to check them out.

Chris, love what you do and love your passion... Not to be a buzz kill, but you are truly going 5-star today... you realize that most people can't afford that $963/day rate that the 5-star marine charges... Obviously if you have a ton of people, it'll pencil out less, but otherwise unaffordable for most... You should have disclosed that and also gave more economic options.

I really took it for granted the times I visited Maya bay all those times I visited there 15-20 years ago. We could hang out and lounge on the beach for as long as we wanted. Back then, I just thought it was a nice beach but didn't realize I needed to cherish the privilege. Now, it looks more like a museum piece. Come see and take photos and then they kick you out. I completely understand why. Too many visitors the last 20 years.

I managed to get to Maya bay shortly after things properly opened up again after covid. 5am start to get there early and there were hardly any people there. Just the most incredible beach and maybe the most beautiful place I have ever been. I can imagine when I gets crazy busy it would lose its shine, but it was unbelievable.

Hello. We are here in Phuket and you are absolutely right about 5 Star Marine private tour. We had sooooo much fun going to places that i have never seen such beauty !!!! We had a private guide and he absolutely took us to the most beautiful beach and caves and mangroves. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. For it's Phang Nga; our second home. But we loved around Phi Phi. We stopped on a small island (don't know the name), was just our boat and the sand was pink. Please check also Surin islands.

Best way go is on a private long tail. Much cheaper and you’ll get the proper Thai experience. Maya Bay is sensational! PRO TIP: Go early!!!!! Also Drone’s are banned on Maya Bay … Can get a massive fine!!!

New visitors are so spoilt. I had to climb a a rickity rope ladder to get on the beach at Maya Bay in 2013. We slept overnight on a boat and hit the beach at 7am. Only 10 on the beach that morning.

The gentleman said that 2-3000 ppl visit in a day...but I thought it was reduced to 300 due to the damage it received. I am concerned when I visit next month that it will be crowded even in the morning, with plastic bottles and rubbish on the beach. TravelwithChris was there not too long ago and the beach had rubbish unfortunately. :(

At Maya Bay, food and water bottles are prohibited on the beach. You may only drink or drink on the ship you are on.

It's absolutely beautiful beach one of the best possibly. The film The Beach leaded by Leonardo DiCaprio films here. I've been there 19 years ago. It's pure paradise ❤
