Hey, I know that house, I drive by it everyday on my way to work. I remember when it was occupied and it was so sad to see it abandoned. My husband and I often comment how sad we feel for the old house.
I have been in that house too many years before when The family was still living there. It was a horse farm and you could pay for rides through trails which we did often when I was a kid. interesting to see it now I drive by from time to time seeing it slowly falling apart.
Hello. I'm back for another fix of one of your tours. I'm really enjoying this because these places are all in Ontario. We spend summer holidays up in the Kawarthas so these finds of yours are far more interesting than watching tours of abandoned places in the USA or across the country. I'm really glad for the warning of the poor, unfortunate dead creatures this time. Thank you.
This building has real character and quality craftsmanship. The fieldstone basement reminded me of an old farmhouse I was interested in purchasing years ago. That was until, I inquired of the realtor about a 9x9 room off the large living room. He called it a viewing/funeral parlor. Ah, the good ole days. :)
Thank you for showing what was once a beautiful home. Love these old homes. Neat with the printing from 1925 in flooring. Miss this part of Ontario, the beautiful lakes, cottages and farms away from the city:)✨🌞🍁
Wow, that house was amazing. Beautiful interior. I loved the front stair case, the space, and my favourite feature of old houses the walk-in attic. I've always wanted one of those. Too bad this house is in bad condition. It would take a lot of work and money to restore it but it would be worth it.
June 2017 - I'm actually going to be driving by this house today (and every weekend) on my way into Peterborough. I always take a long look at this place and wish I was brave enough to stop and go in. Thanks much for the tour, greatly appreciated. You should make an updated visit to see how much it has deteriorated or vandalized. Also, I was really hoping you'd go out back and show the barn and out buildings. They're important too in our rich farming history. Thx again!
I have loved this farm since I was a child. I always wondered how bad it was. Seeing how old this video is now, confirms there is no hope for a restoration. I'm sad, such a beautiful home. though driving by it now, it's looking more and more like a ghost itself.
I have always loved this house. It is just North of Hwy 115 on the way to Peterborough. My husband and I admire it every time we are out that way. It's too bad it just sits there...alone!! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see the inside....;)
Such a gorgeous house. Beautiful banister and molding. This is exactly the kind of home I can say I hope to own some day. You really explored into the bowels of that house! I LOVE this video.
great video, loved the Lon Chaney advert, in the old houses they always put down newspaper over floor boards before putting vinyl flooring, very strange it was so windy inside the house! thanks for the upload !
cool video..I am so in intrigued byt this.always have been, UI use to do this with my friends way back in the 70's and early 80's as a teen. this home musta been a beauty when it was built..shame what becomes of these old homes..and that ppl and animals come and destroy it even more :( I am gonna watch some more now..thanks 4 posting!!
hi ben, my name is william griffin, i live in new jersey..i love the videos, u might not be interested in hearing this but i use to do stuff like what u and your friends, steve and dean, and maybe other are doing, back in the 90's me my nephew and his friends we did abandoned houses back in newark years ago i'm 40 now so i don't really do that anymore but i like to come with u one day and explore houses with u..keep up the good work ben, god bless u and your friends for doing what u do.
When you came up the stairs and in to the first room did you not hear the extra set of footsteps coming up the stairs? You could hear it plain as day in this video. Amazing!!
That green thing I think is a floor buffer. We had one just like it when I was a kid except ours was yellow. It's ancient, from at least the '50s. The front part of the house is from 1880s- 1890s. The back part was likely added some time in the '20s as the back is Craftsman style and the front Queen Anne. Nice old house. Too bad it's been let go like that.
Reading the newspaper article attached to the blog, it sounded like all the branch of that family that owned the house had died. The one family member spokesperson, 77yrs, wasn't in that branch unfortunately. When they said the estate needed to be settled & this house still remains vacant after so long, I think the township or whatever the gov't body is in Canada, owns it. I'd encourage anyone who wants some acreage & is a tradesman or superhandy could probably pick this up for a song. Sadly, this probably holds true for a lot of these abandoned houses. Such a shame. It's a good thing IKEA doesn't build houses!
love watching your video's. hate when I see the vandalism. I seen one that involved a whole family. They were going through the house seeing what they could take. So sad.
I pass this house several times a week. It’s so sad to see the shape it’s in now. Clearly people have gone in and just destroyed it. A few months ago, there was a table hanging out the top floor window. I often see cars stopped on the side of the road in front of it. I’d say it’s very dangerous to go into now.
Maybe the owners left because they couldn't stand listening to all that traffic on the road! LOL Just kidding, this was a great find. Maybe it could still be fixed up. I'm glad you captured this little treasure before its gone. Thanks for posting!
I love that house, all the nooks and crannies, they just don't make houses like that! Wonder what happened to the racoons! Seems like this house isn't totally lost, it still could come back to life yet with alot of TLC!
Looks like somebody started some work on it, then maybe ran out of funds or the will to do the work, and just left it?! Such a shame, beautiful house. When watching these videos I always try to think of all the memories these places must hold...families, kids growing up. I think of the family house I'm in now, and try to imagine it in the same condition, with nobody knowing it's history. Heartbreaking!
It looks like the home on the old regional hwy 8 in old Winona part of Hamilton now and the road is rename queenston.if so my old homestead was a few miles back up the road that has a 1 mile long drive way and the house we use to call the old glover house..is gone now. There is a survey of homes up more near fruitland rd...
January 16 2019 , this house is still here and it now belongs to Department of Highway as there is going to be a rework of the road in this area in 2020
Aw...another little passed by Raccoon....:'(. One of them should tell the others not to go into these old house. I love Raccoons,,,feed them with the deer, oppossums, stray cats, whatever shows up. Like seeing them scamper better than dead like this. Wonder what it is that old houses kind of tweak their mortality rate? At any rate....LOVE your videos, LOVE, LOVE the houses....wish I could be in your shoes at times....:) Ignore my commentary...I sometimes prattle on but I do appreciate and enjoy your videos. Be safe in your explorations and...Keep 'em coming! :)
I always enjoy your videos but after reading the back story on this property I don't know how to feel, it's just sickening what a piddling amount of money will do to people, & alcohol abuse of course. The house is destroyed but the stair case still intact is amazing! 🏠🌾
Thanks for the explore. I always find your videos interesting. That raccoon didn't look too long dead, and not sick at all. Rabies perhaps? Was that another animal remains off to the side there, up in the attic? Thanks again for sharing!
The house is great. I didn't really understand why the kitchen was upstairs. And there was no bathroom that I could see. Just a place where it looks like a toilet may have been in a tiny little closet. The dead raccoon freeked me out! I wonder why it died... maybe some poison set out somewhere. And was that another dead animal carcass in the eve of the house just near tha dead raccoon? All in all I really just wanted to fix this house up. When I seen that newspaper said 1925, I was n awe!
All that wood molding going to waste. I watch these video's and notice folks are alone. I think that would be scarey because If you fell through a top floor you'd have no one to help you. I just wish they'd take a buddy w/ them incase something may happen.
I dunno, after a certain point it makes more sense to knock the whole thing down and build a new house. I'm now expert. I guess one could strip everything out down to a brick shell and build a new house inside it. A la the 1940's - 1950's rebuilding of the White House. You can do pretty much anything if you've got the dough.
so sad really that vandals have actually done a lot of damage to this home yes its old and in decay, however it sure was also hit by vandals.. quite sad !!!
Man! Un-watchable. Dizzy ... You gotta slow down to a crawl. I can't believe no one else has mentioned this. And ... Your passing over cool stuff due to the speed.
