I went to Tangting village, a remote unspoiled place close to the touristy center of Pokhara. Off-the-beaten track is where you can experience Nepal's Gurung culture around the Annapurna Range. To get there, I needed to take some crazy bus rides through Nepali roads. This was fun!

19:05 is a typical example of village people always excited to see when someone carrying camera. She thought you'r taking a picture of her, so she came behind you to check out herself. she said " i can see my self " and left. Next time you could pretend to take her picture she will become more happy. I respect their pure-heart and simplicity 😃

Interesting to hear Gurung people say Thank you in Chinese. That means that so many Chinese have visited the area that the locals began to pick up Chinese words. People can also speak English. This is a remote yet much visited place.

It's because majority of Gurkha is comprised of the Gurungs so they've come in contact with the Chinese in HK, Malaysia, Singapore etc. Many Gurungs currently reside in HK, UK, Singapore

Historically, we, the Gurungs have only a little connection with Tibet. It is said that our ancestors have migrated from Mongolia. Gurung can't be called a caste. Rightly, a tribe, living in high altitudes, with a unique culture, tradition and language. It is divided with many sub- clans. So, we like the other tribes are different in many ways as compared to general Nepalese. I miss my village 😊

There is no such thing as "general Nepalese." Every Nepali ethnic group has its own distinct culture from the other. Newars are different from Gurung, Sherpas are different from Chhetri, etc. We are all unique in our own ways. It is not only Gurung that is "different," all Nepali ethnicities are different and that is the beauty of our country🥰

Would be interesting to know if Gurungs eventually do live in sort of a matriarchat? Like Khasi in India and Mosuo in China? They too seemed to have come from Mongolia.

Something surprising I noticed as a subscriber and regular viewer: I think you've become an even *better* travel vlogger in the short time since you filmed this video -- and you were clearly very good already! Thank you for all the hard work you do, both in front of the camera *and* behind the scenes. Roof: "stone plate" / maybe "stone slab" // plate = a flat dish, typically circular and made of china, from which food is eaten or served // slab = "roof tile" (more precise). By looking at the video, I would be inclined to call it a "roof slab"; tile being a bit smaller. Maybe "roof slate" is more precise. Nepal: magnificent video. I know so many people from Nepal living in Boston. I am beginning to become fascinated by the electronic equipment you use to edit your films and photos. I am really not familiar with film-making or video-blogging. Perhaps one of your episodes you can devote to how you actually make the special effects you produce in your you-tubes which makes the experience watching your productions so exciting and captivating. Perhaps you are more than an Angel. Perhaps you are a Goddess of Imagination. I am very lucky to have found you. Thank you for your efforts and your exquisitely deep smile. You have transformed me from a despondent dysthymic to an enlightened Bodhisattva. You have elevated my soul to be able to taste a breath of Paradise.

Gurung literally means Go=means in Tibetan we can refer to the door in direct translation,and rung means to protect means the warrior who protect the boarder during the Tibet king songtsen Gampo of 6 th century,so they are came from Ti et back to the history of king Songtsen Gampo
@voiceoutpeople7815
@voiceoutpeople7815 2 месяца назад
sorry to debunk this theory,Gurung people are here in Nepal before there was any tibet back then, as you metioned Songtesn Gampo regain was in 6th century where as gurung people have village older than time perod, there is a village ruins whas was date back to 3000 yesrs and also the tradition and rituals are way older and difrent than tibtians, most of the gurung peole follow animist and spritual religion compared to titians they follow buddism and main important thing although the language falls under tibetian burma family but its completye diffrent than tibetian language. i do not deney genology realtion with tibetian but i suerly deney cultural and linguestic aspect as a part of tibetian i would prefer to call it equall or even older than tebtian culture.

Yes, @@voiceoutpeople7815 is correct, Gurung people had arrived in Nepal before there was Tibet. In fact, 'Gurung' people have always identified as 'Tamu' and still do. Only a few hundred years back the Bhramins started calling Tamu people Guru and then it became Gurung, there is a story about this but I won't go in detail here. The word 'Gurung' actually does not exist in Tamu language. Also, it has already been proven Tamu people migrated from Kokonor to Yunnan to Tibet to Nepal thousands of years ago. DNA evidence shows that Tamu people have high degree of Mongolian and Nakhi DNA, and Tibetan (to lesser degree) DNA too. I do admit that the curent Tamu language has been influenced by other languages in the region as well as the Nepali language. Same goes for the Tamu culture and religion. Here is a fun fact: The original Tamu religion (Shamanism) and oral history Tamu Pye is gradually dissappearing, in the future most Tamu will most likely only speak Nepali or English, and they will pick up additional DNA from other groups. Same as how it happened as they migrated from Kokonor to Yunnan to Tibet to Nepal, and even way before that.

Mostly among youngsters, they don’t care about caste a lot. However, still prevalent in the older generations. Also, rural areas are more caste sensitive in comparison to cities. Will still take 1-2 more generations to rid it.
