Noah and I explore an abandoned copper mine on the beautiful banks of the Chestatee River east of Dahlonega, GA in Lumpkin County. We find a really cool stretch of river and an old iron bridge over the river nearby. It was a great day trip and a cool find. Thanks for watching! Once upon a time, back in the early 70s I spent much of my mispent youth there. I would drive my car into the mine, put the speakers on top of my car, plug in the 8 track of Pink Floyd Meddle. I would climb to the end of the tunnel, climb up on the rocks and get high! At that time the bridge was stiil open and you could drive accross it. Further Up the Chestatee there is a large damn with a concrete tower where there was a generator that supported the mining operations. Thanks for the video, most happy times of my life!

Wow, that brings back memories, when i went to UNG, back then it was NGC, we used to go out there on the weekends and party, back then you could damn near drive up to it. Was a real disapointment to see all they grafittie in the cave, it was not that bad back in the early to the mid 80"s!

I lived up there for a while up river in the 80s& we floated down the river. There is a small waterfall up above mine. I got freaked out& left the group because I was afraid of going over the waterfall. I hiked out thru the woods in my bikini lol to a store& had to sit there until they picked me up about a hour later. That was so scary! We passed a couple copperhead as soon as we started the trip then had to crawl over a hugh tree covered in ants& get our raft& conue over it,then it got dark& a thunderstorms came through,lightning was bad we had to sit on sand covered up by raft so in the morning when we left that stop& I knew waterfall was coming up I was done! Totally freaked out! Lol& got chased by someone's dog on the road to store so this Totally brings back alot of memories! Thanks for sharing!

I used to go to this mine back in the late 80's while attending NGC. Seeing this video... super cool.. brought back some memories. I still drive by it every now and then. Last I looked from Copper Mines Rd/Long Branch Rd it looked fenced off and like it had been sealed with concrete. This is a video from just after Thanksgiving in 2021? If so, I guess I was wrong about it being sealed. Sup?

Yes, this mine is still wide open. You should go back over there and check it out for old times’ sake 💯🤙

@@southernappalachianrecon I remember when you could drive up to the mine around 1987 or so. Sometime around '88 to '89, the road was closed off.

There is another mine, a copper mine, on that property. It’s difficult to get into and dangerous as hell. The entrance is closer to the turnoff from the road. There is an abandoned town on top of the ridge.

Great to see ya'll still at it. Yes it is a shame that people destroy our outdoors play ground with trash, and paint i try and pick the trash up when i find it. Wish people would have more respect for others. Hey great video catch you on the next one

There was a time you could drive your vehicles in the mine. The adventure was epic. Sadly no more.

@jasonqueen264
@jasonqueen264 7 месяцев назад
@@american_chevy616 it’s in dahlonega Just go straight down longbranch road and it’ll take you straight to copper mines road There’s a bridge with a river underneath and to the left or right depending on where you go it’s in the fenced off area. Just go down the path to the left of the bridge and follow the path on the left bank of the river

That mine was used for road mettle. The copper mine is in a different part of that same ridge.

I received a trespassing warning here. Well worth it though. The owner will sometimes watch the premises and get law enforcement involved. You go back up to your vehicle to find a cop car beside your truck😂😂😂

College bands had concerts in there back in the early 90's. And yes, could drive in there back then. My understanding was that big tunnel wasn't nothing but an exploratory tunnel. It's pretty safe. There were other secret entrances to the actual mine that may now be sealed off as they should be. The rest of the mine was extensive underground. Reminds me of something out of the Lord of the Rings series. We even dragged an inflatable raft down through a small entrance hole and inflated it and paddled across the huge underground lake to explore the other side. Many dangerous mine shafts all inside there that drop hundreds of feet. Very dangerous. Do not explore!

Yes! I saw Widespread Panic play there in 1990. Used to hang out there on Civi days with the NGC boys 😂
