Twenty one year old Will Moore, along with his parents Ron and Debbie have made a 45 minute documentary about Caney Creek Village. The village was located near Ocoee Powerhouse #2 on the Ocoee River in Polk County, Tennessee. The workers of the powerhouse and flume line lived in the isolated mountains but had electricity, concrete sidewalks and indoor plumbing. The village had no roads or cars but had a trolley, hotel, school and a tennis court.

I am from Bradley County and went to school with Debbie. I have lived on the Ocoee River less than 10 minutes from Caney Creek Village for 40 years, but had never heard about the abandoned village. Knew Caney Creek, Big Creek, etc, but find it amazing how much history can be in ones own back door and you don’t know about it. I love this video. It’s well but together and well filmed. More! More! By the way, on my husbands’ and my land, there is also a bit of history. The Ocoee River splits around a maybe 60 acre island. Barges once came down the Ocoee and landed on the island.

Great job doing this project. I really enjoyed this. I grew up in Cleveland and Chattanooga is now home - but a part of my heart is in the Ocoee region. Glad to see the history being documented this way.

I like the video but the vocals are too soft and the background too loud. Hard for the hearing impaired. I say this to anyone who over uses background music so don't take it personally. I like the video. Good content. Thank you for posting.

How far from the power house are the ruins? You swam over to the creek. There is a small dam across the creek that supplied water to this area.

I got over on that side of the river and tried to find the village but could not locate it. Any tips on finding

You can hike down trail 74 from the other side its 3.5 miles to hike. We went 12-17-20 took 4 hours round trip.

Does anyone know if tva will allow you too walk down the road bed behind the power house ? The same road bed that runs through candy creek runs all the way up to the power house and I don’t have access to any kayaks at the moment so I was going to go across the bridge at the power house and walk in with my family but I didn’t now if they would allow us to get through

we did that hike starting at the powerhouse about 42 years ago as boy scouts, went up the creek till we came to a small dam if i remember correctly. Also passed a few rattlesnakes on the hike up there. I dont remember seeing any of the foundations on that trip though.
