It's cool to see a person catching bass, and having fun. I see sooooo many "bass fisherman", using like 75 pound test line that almost yank the fishes head off, and hydroplane it back to the boat.😂😂😂
Love all John's videos but he especially shines when he does Dalton roots fishing, multispecies, ultralight tackle, small water fishing. Nobody can match him.
John , you showed that Rattle Snake can be everywhere and anywhere . You showed respect and gave it room so that it could go on it's way. Great Video and good day fishing God has Blessed You. Tim.
Used to fish the Ocoee a ton!! My In-Laws owned a house about 2 hours float down from the dam below the lake. I spent a bunch of time wade fishing and canoeing. Loved that place
I love fishing all three of those dams , they are fun and sometimes can be amazing fishing. That is the second rattlesnake I have seen in that area , the other was by the walkway that goes over the river downstream from there.
John this channel is so like my childhood fishing that I never quit as a adult. At 59 still my favorite type of fishing steam, ditch or creek I love to to do it. Thanks for your videos
Glad to see you back out having fun and catching fish. Love fishing with a 6 foot light. Caught a 15 1/2" black crappie on my 6' Lews light. What a fight, but the Lews held up to the challenge.
Beautiful baby Timberback, I have hundreds of them out here where I live and some of them are really big, they seem to dominate the Diamond backs, because when I first moved to my property it was the Diamonds that prevailed, but since we had 3 hurricanes come over our heads in one season, the timbers came this way to escape the flooding and now the Diamonds are kinda rare now!!....Got fat Moccasins and Corals too, never a dull moment out here, I've gotten really good at scoping out where I walk, saved my ass about a dozen times now, but have lost two dogs to big vipers though!!
@@dundeeecroc Canebrake ???... ever heard that term before And been in the deep south all my life except for 22 years serving!!...What breed of rattler is that??...I've only got three types out where I live..Diamond's..Timbers and Pigmys!!
@@sidewaysvertical2138 Timber's are darker and smaller in color and tend to be up in the higher elevations. whereas the Canebrakes are lighter in color and much larger than the timber's. and thank you for your 22 years in the service.
I'm late to the party, but Canebreak and Timber Rattlers have officially been classed as Timber Rattler, even though there will always be reginal names. Another regional name for them was velvet tailed rattler.
That last picture of the Rattlesnake, with that particular memory verse-Perfect! Great verse of scripture, there. Glad you didn't get bitten by that bugger!
Stay safe and watch your six when kneeing down. A pole with a 10-12 inch knife works well. Carry a shovel and bury the head. The head can bite for over an hour after separation so that is the reason to shovel the head into a hole. You will be surprised by how many fish will go after the rest of the snake. If you can ..., skin it first for fish bait. Did you say this was the first time for a rattlesnake? Enjoyed the video.
I like the way you gently put the fish back!! I am a fisherman, but after stressing the fish out catching them, I wouldn't THROW them into a shallow rocky area. Just sayin! But great fishing spot!
I can testify that Rattlesnakes will go in the river. I guided the section of the Nolichucky River that flows from Poplar NC to Erwin TN. Back in 78 I noticed a snake in the water that was heading towards my raft. When it was about 20' away I realized it was an Eastern Diamondback and we tried to steer it away but it kept coming. I whacked it with my paddle and that stunned it enough so that we were able to get away from it. That gorge is full of them...
Nice mixed bag of fish, bass lures then switching to the ultralight spinning rod for good numbers. The action is always fun minus the snake. Not many poisonous ones in IL but the water snakes are feisty. We always give them a wide berth. Love the sunset closer. Thanks for sharing brother man.
I had one crawl underneath my tackle bag that I set down on the bank. I go to pick up my bag and SURPRISE! It rattled it's rattle and striked at me. I was very lucky it didn't get me
Great scenery John. Loved the red sky in the background near the end of the video. Ultralight is great fun. You inspired my 13 year old son to try ultralight fishing. Thanks John from your friends in Scotland 🏴 🎣
Yesterday my hand was about 8" away from a rattle snake and didn't even know it. It slithered out of the grass around a small tree where I was pulling weeds. Scared the holy hell out of me. Killed it with a shovel.
Awesome video Creek Fishing adventures man I would not want to be near snakes when I'm fishing I tell you what when I went up to lake Erie a few years ago up in Sandusky there were snakes all over the place I even bravely walked through the clear fork Mohican River full of water moccasins from one side to the other side years ago did not get bit that was when I was camping and fishing at Mohican State Park with my grandparents many years ago
Great fishing video. Your channel has become my favorite fishing channel. Beautiful canebrake rattler, he wouldn’t hurt you unless you stepped on him or tried to catch him. I like rattlers over cottonmouths and copperheads. At least they’ll warn you first.
good vid bro. love that area. will be there soon. beautiful rattler. we just saw an enormous timber rattler up in NC, high up in the mountains. seen a few of em out east. way to let em be, i never mess with them, just let em be.... cheers.
First video I've watched on this channel. I have a question. Why stand so far from the water, and throw your fish? I always heard you release gently as to not bust the air bladder. Is that a fish tale?
To increase the survival rates of the fish you release, try to keep the time the fish is out of the water to 10 seconds or less and be as gentle as possible when putting them back in. Some species can handle prolonged exposure to air and thrown back in but why chance it? Nice video btw.
The grass is always greener on the other side of the creek ...... I worked on the Ocoee for years in the 80s ....... My friend Miss B still has her Hippy business there ..... Good to see you . ... Saw you on the Arm's Channel ...... Ever fish the Nolichucky ..... Or trout on the Nantahala ..... Or even on the South Holston below the Dam....
That river at the end was like glass, with the sun going down would be a good time for some top water fishing. Mister Rattlesnake was out looking for grub and a drink of water.
I, kill everyone I ever come across my path get bit by one and anti-venom is $56,000 per vile with a minimum of 4-5 viles if hopefully, the hospital has them and you don't lose a digit or a limb or die approx hospital cost is about $275,000 that's why and yea know folks will say leave them alone and they won't bother you sometimes they can come out of nowhere when hiking or walking and I dont, feel I have to co-exist with a snake especially on my property every snake on my property gets a round of snake shot.
AMEN! Great video! Notice how a Rattlesnake or other poisonous snakes always swim with their whole body out of the water! Prolly had came out of its winter den and headed across the river to lay eggs!
It’s funny how you go through snaky looking places in every episode, but an asphalt parking lot is where you have your snake encounters! Ha! Thanks for the vids!
Heard you say “trout magnet “ and got excited that the TM was making a come back to the channel… then I saw you out the itty bit on the TM jighead. You should do a video on the Ity bit vs the TM to see which Micro lure catches more fish
oh yeah snakes swim. my dad took me to a river when i was kid twixt w.virginia and kentucky and guy were out there shooting snakes crossing the river. apparently a past time in the area
Hey John, so my main channel is all about reptiles (this one is my new channel), and that was a timber rattlesnake, also known as a canebrake rattlesnake in your area. You did exactly what you should do when you come across a rattlesnake; take some photos and let it go on it's way, and appreciate that you were lucky enough to see one in the wild. Really like your channel. If you ever make it up to Minnesota, let me know and I'll take you out fishing!
You have a catfish rod setup and you just let the best bait slither right on by...! Like Jeremy Wade says "Ya' miss more fish with 2 rods than you do with one"...!
Timber rattlesnake, Crotalus Horridus. They eat so many small rodents that they do us a big favor by eating a lot of ticks. It's estimated an adult timber eats about 3,000 to 4,000 ticks per year.
We were up at Indian Boundary this weekend. Caught a few 🐟. Caught a gigantic black Crappie last night. It was massive! The one time I didn't bring my camera, either. It was close to dark and they got really active near the boat ramp bank.
I reckon we all have different priorities....I would tried ra catch the fish then deal with the snake....my granddaughter said snake first poppa, duh. Thanks for sharing John, God bless.
As usual another fun video. I could have done without the rattler though. I think I'd leave before it got to dark, he may just swim back across the river.
Hi, I. Just love watching you fish, you tell what you are going to do that's so helpful, I really hope I can go fishing soon lol 😂 I know you are enjoying yourself. Good luck.
i went ahead and bought the 75.00 snake leggins, they were worth it,been hit dozens of time, that kevlar ruins their day and saves yours,CABELLAS has them in stock ,fear no snake, now back to fishing
