Exploring Abandoned Race Track-Reims Gueux 2023 (1/2) Pressgrandstand
The Reims-Gueux Circuit was a street circuit and used for the first time in 1926 for the ‘Grand Prix de la Marne’. In 1932 it hosted the French Grand Prix and again in 1938 and 1939. After world War Two it also hosted Grand Prix races and from 1950 up to 1966 the Formula One French Grand Prix. Reims-Gueux was also famous for the annual 12 Hours of Reims.
During the years permanent facilities were built, like this press grandstand, grandstands for the spectators, a permanent pits, a VIP building and a timekeeper house. Also the layout of the circuit was changed a few times. If you want to see all these layouts I reccomend our video ‘Circuit Reims-Gueux all layouts’.
Despite being a popular venue and the good permanent facilities, after the 1966 Grand Prix Formula 1 abandoned Reims-Gueux. Untill 1972 the circuit was used for other races, but than closed. The permanent buildings were left abandoned for the next decades. Actually there were plans to demolish it for the construction of new houses. But this never happened.
Fortunately, the foundation ‘Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux’ was founded to save the remains of the old Reims-Gueux Circuit. They get permission to restore the buildings and the guarantee that nothing would be demolished. The restauration started in 2004. In June 2023, I was a guest by the foundation for the second time, to film the restoration Works. During that day I also fimed this exploration of the grandstands.
