Haunted Race Track Reims-Gueux - Nighttime Exploration
In this Circuits of the past video we go explore the haunted race track of Reims-Gueux by night, looking for ghosts…
Some people believe in ghosts, others don’t. But sometimes we see strange things we can’t decare… Can’t we? In this night exploration we’re looking for answers.
The Reims-Gueux circuit is an abandoned circuit in Northern France. After 30 years of decay the buildings are now restored by the foundation “Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux”.
However, some people claim they saw ghosts on the abandoned site.
When Herman visited the abandoned circuit in 2005 he made a photo inside the grandstand. On the picture you see a lot of big orbs. And when he made a drone flight in 2018 he saw strange bright spots in the stands.
Reason enough to do some night time exploration of this abandoned site, looking for paranormal activities. At the end of the video, we're going to analyze all the strange things we've seen.
We start to explore the old pit building. Followed by the basement, also known as the Reims-Gueux Dungeon.
After the dungeon we make a scary walk through the dark tunnel underneath the track. On the other side of the track are the abandoned grandstands. We start at the press grandstand. This was where a guy on Twitter claimed he saw a ghost.
After the night exploration of the buildings and stands we go to an abandoned section of the track itself. There we do a night ride on the abandoned section and make a stop at the Hovette Corner, where a cross stands...
About the abandoned race track of Reims-Gueux
The Reims-Gueux Circuit can be seen as F1’s ultimate abandoned race track and was operational from 1926 to 1972. It actually was a street circuit with permanent pit and grandstand facilities. Reims-Gueux hosted Formula 1 races and the 12 Hours of Gueux.
Originally the circuit ran through the village of Gueux. But in 1952 a new connection cut off that section and in 1953 the track was extended. For more information about the layouts of the circuit I recommend the video “Reims-Gueux Circuit All layouts”: • Reims-Gueux Circuit Al...
When Formula 1 abandoned the circuit after the 1966 French Grand Prix the track became outdated and was only used for national races. After the last race in 1972 thety actually wanted to demolish the buiuldings.
But a new major stopped the demolition and the buildings were left for nature for the next decades.
There were already plans to restart the demolition and built houses on the site instead. But the foundation “Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux” managed to prevent that. They get permission to restore the buildings and the guarantee that nothing would be demolished again.
About the pit building
In the early years the pit building was used by the race control. Later, the race control and the timekeeping moved to the new building “Pavillon André Lambert”, which we will explore too. Since then this pit building was used as a restaurant for drivers and team members.
There was also a restaurant for the spectators in the grandstands. You can see the exploration of the stands in this video: • Exploring Abandoned Ra...
About the dungeon
The so called dungeon is actually a basement underneath the pit building.
A certain person who is apparently very inspired by Herman’s work gave this the name Reims-Gueux Dungeon. After he took off with a topic that Herman has been putting on the map since 2005, he also went to visit abandoned racing circuits, like Reims-Gueux.
Probably he have a dirty mind and thought this is a dungeon.
This “dungeon” is a narrow tunnel to a basement that was used to store Champagne. Officially it is closed for public. But because Herman was a guest of the foundation “Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux” they gave him entrance.

Let me know if you like this new series and if you want me to do more nighttime exploring at abandoned race tracks. Next week I show you the pre-war Zandvoort street circuit, at daytime ;)

Hmmm..I wonder what Herman's favourite circuit of the past could it possibly ZANDVOORT (sorry I have only based that on how many videos you have made on it compared to any other circuit on here correct me if I'm wrong) but either way zandvoort is an amazing place, amazing track, good to drive and nice people aswell :)
@Circuitsofthepast
@Circuitsofthepast 3 года назад
@@happysoul1907 Zandvoort is my favorite track because it's my home track and I have so many good memories to it. In 1989 I came there for the first time. The following years I was there almost every weekend to watch races or drive there by myself. It was also where my fascination for the history of race tracks started. In 1989 the track was shortened and the older drivers talked a lot about the old track. So here my interest for the old layout started.

Very enjoyable. We can all be rational in the day, but at night our imaginations can run wild. Well done . As someone who has been interested in motor sport since the late 1950's, the circuits you visit are all of interest to me. Keep up the good work. Peter

I used to be a volunteer at the Brooklands museum and we used to run ghost tours for our visitors. So your choice of the Brooklands circuit is a good idea. Try going up the test hill and walking around up there as this is supposed to be haunted.

@@petercwatling I'm already in contact with the Brooklands Museum. Unfortunately they have troubles because of Covid-19 and also cancelled the ghost tours because of the restrictions. However, as soon as it is possible again I make a very cool video about the ghost stories of Brooklands.

@@petercwatling I used to live near Portsmouth and the ghost tour at Brooklands was on my bucket list! Unfortunately the only time I could go to one the tickets were already sold out, and having moved away from the area I don’t know if I’ll get another chance any time soon (forgetting COVID lol). Did you have any experiences of the paranormal there?

Great video this old track does look pretty creepy. There is an app that can be downloaded from apple store and play store called Necrophonic which some urban explorers use to pick up spirits voices that are in a location, could try it out if Herman does anymore night time exploring which I hope he does.

Now that the buildings are saved from being demolished, will they still be accessible to go inside and walk around?
@Circuitsofthepast
@Circuitsofthepast 3 года назад
Some are accesssible some not. In this video you see all the buildings which are accessible for public and those who are not (I had permission): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zv6FxqclLGs.html And in this video you see the grandstands, which are not open for public: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dAWMyChcDdw.html I don't think the grandstands will open for public on normal days after the restauration. It's more likely they will be only open during the annual revival.

I know about the ghost stories of Brooklands and contacted the museum already about a reportage. Actually I wanted to film there this autumn and attend a ghost tour. But these are cancelled because of Covid-19. And with all restrictiuons I can't travel to the UK now. But later I will make a very cool video about the Brooklands ghost stories.

What can you tell me about Luigi Musso? Talking about the shadow on the cross i don't know even the "fog" is pretty strange but after all nothing scary Anyway good video
@Circuitsofthepast
@Circuitsofthepast 3 года назад
I was also at the crash site of Luigi Musso at daylight and made a photo of the memorial. That's in the first corner. The shadow was actually from the camera because I slightly moved the flashlight. I solved that mystery when I watched the video back after finishing editing. It was not scary at all, except the risk of encounter a drifter in te buildings or the tunnel.
@gavinmills2806
@gavinmills2806 3 года назад
I found the abandoned part of the track and the cross section of the video extremely eerie, and even felt my heart rate rise slightly! I fully support your idea of doing more haunted/night time videos at old circuits! Even in the sunset, where there is dead silence apart from a slight breeze that blows the trees makes for an eerie atmosphere at abandoned race tracks.
@Hillclimbfan1990
@Hillclimbfan1990 3 года назад
Another comment. The only "logical explanation" I can give for the foggy pictures is condensation in the lens. A sudden temperature change can cause that, or when a small drop of water is caught in/on the lens. It will dry up when you spend some time in a nice heated environment. For example inside a car driving from Reims to Nivelles. Got nothing for the dark shadow though.
@Circuitsofthepast
@Circuitsofthepast 3 года назад
Thanks. That would solve the last mystery. The dark shadow was caused because I moved the flashlight. De shadow was from the camera. In the video you see the same shadow more often.
