My theory for what it's worth: so many "dens" and king size beds tells me that there were multiple families living here. Each family had a living area and a sleeping area.

When they put this place up for sale after the owner died, they put a lot of the stuff that had been piled on the porch inside the house. Older Google Maps photos show the front yard full of junk even a car up on blocks. I couldn't help but think that the original family would have been floored to see this beautiful home basically trashed. I really think that there's a mix of what the original family left in the house and what the new family must have brought in themselves.

@mermaid2014
@mermaid2014 Месяц назад
The house was built with love, but after a certain time, it wasn't maintained due to lack of funds. Chimneys seem to get boarded up not only because of the installation of HVAC; but because often the chimneys crumble after so many years. They need to be repointed occasionally. Your roof is an extremely important part of your house. As soon as water gets in your house, you must rectify the situation ASAP. Whether it's flooding or rain. Roof leaks generally start as small and fixable! "No roof, no house" a roofer told me. If you buy any property, you will need to be prepared for all of life's surprises, good and bad. If you can afford to do so, get multiple inspectors. Seems like they find a lot more wrong; when they're not secretly aligned with the realtor, or the title company. You should really get a survey to make sure your property lines are accurate. It's expensive, but you should really know everything about the house before you sign. Even if you are buying a brand new home, everything should be checked! Home builders can be sloppy. Subcontractors can be worse. There is too much at stake, for you or anyone living in the home. Maintain all your house systems, just like your vehicle, on a maintenance schedule. Find a credit union or bank that has a home equity line of credit. The lowest % you can find. Build this credit line over time so that when you need a new roof, have to fix pipes, replace appliances, you have that line of credit available.

Beautiful woodwork and antique furniture. I’ve often wondered what keeps ppl from going in and stealing all that stuff? Who pays the electric bill? If property taxes aren’t paid, and bank foreclosed, why wasn’t it put on market and sold? If it was paid for why would the family have left? Just questions I’ve always wondered about. Keeping this family in my prayers! God Bless them. Seeing this makes me want to cry for that poor family.

When a property is bank-owned - which in banking is called "REO" for 'real estate owned = had been foreclosed on - it definitely gets put up for sale, but properties in really bad condition such as this one sometimes sit on the bank's books for a long time because the house is in such bad shape, no one has the money to fix it up or thinks it's worth it to fix it up. Banks will sometimes keep the electricity on also, hoping that may be useful in getting the property sold & having put the utilities in their name. And the REO departments of some banks sometimes just don't follow up on the details of their properties & lose track of the details like the electricity being left on for years for no use anymore.

Yes! I wonder the same thing.. I live in New Orleans and following hurricane Katrina (and before the city had a chance to be refurbished) there were many houses that were exposed to the elements and especially thieves. These scumbags would completely strip houses (and even cemeteries) of all historic memorabilia. Luckily, most of these artifacts such as iron mantle pieces, cypress doors, frames, etc would stay within the local area and would eventually wind up at the architectural salvages throughout the city and state.

This is a Victorian home but with 80's,90's furniture. Some are 1930s bedroom suites. I believe this is a 2 family duplex. Upstairs was a storm door in the hallway. I grew up in a Victorian home, and most walls are white. This family chose those outrageous colors. Its grandeur has been lost for years. It's a shame. Especially in the South. The folks can't take care of old homes, and the termites and nature take over.

@@tamzcountrylife I dreamed about this house. No lie. I lived in a house very similar to this one years ago. The owners had divided it up into three separate apartments. My roommate’s and I had the top floor. Since we were in the top floor we had access to the attic. We explored it one day and found old trunks with clothes from the 1800’s. We found an old civil war uniform in there as well. I don’t think the owners had ever really explored up there. They came and got the trunks and I believe they turned them over to the local historical society. The house itself was on the register. It was also haunted. The ghost was a friendly ghost. We were never scared or spooked by it at all. It played tricks on us. The paranormal psychology class at the local college had done a reading on it at one time. They determined that it had a poltergeist spirit in it. Not like the movie obviously. I feel so bad for the family that had to abandon this house. I can only imagine the upkeep and maintenance it took. I bet it was already in bad shape when they bought it and they probably had dreams of renovating it and just weren’t prepared for the cost and the enormity of it all. The owners of the house I lived in told me that it was also falling down when they bought it. Several times they thought about giving up and just demolishing it instead but they didn’t. Someone could probably purchase this house for next to nothing and then spend a lot of money getting it back into shape. I hope that happens but I bet it will be torn down and some god awful structure built there.

@MemphisMama

@@ImHome-yl4ur it is sickening. Nowadays it seems that people would rather tear down these old houses instead of preserving history. Can you imagine what will be considered “historical” 50 years from now? I know Bankz doesn’t always disclose the exact area of these homes, for obvious reasons. I don’t blame him. I am curious though if the historical society in this city has tried to preserve this house. It would take a lot of money to restore it, I’m sure. That makes me sad knowing that there’s no one that has the means to do so. It’s bad enough these people walked away and left their belongings. Imagine what we would’ve seen if all their possessions hadn’t been there? Preserving history is a dying breed.

The reason that all that stuff is left in that home is because the people skipped out on the house payment and couldn’t take all the big stuff. All they could take was what’s in the vehicles. They had two cars or two trucks no big ones didn’t want to attract any attention. They packed up very little and skipped out on the payment of the house, if you would check, the house would probably be costing more than what it was actually worth

I just love those Victorian houses. Looks like the inside has been tossed for some reason. Many years ago a friend of mine and I discovered an abandoned home sort of like this one. We went inside, poked around. The closets were full of men's clothing; many 3-pc suits, most were herringbone, some were double breasted suits. Looks like something from the 1920's. I went upstairs and when I started to walk across the room, I felt the floor sag slightly so I immediately turned around and went back downstairs. We found an old ledger from a general store, the last entry was in 1861. We were very amused at the prices and how they kept the record of what was bought. I swear whoever wrote in that ledger had the most beautiful, exquisite handwriting I've ever seen. The ink was brown, perhaps it was originally blue but turned brown and the pages had yellowed but still in good shape. I felt a connect of some sort with whoever made the entries as I held that ledger. As we left, we discovered something odd, and that was a live rooster in a burlap bag in the back yard. Poor thing had been in the small sack so long that it could not extend it's legs to stand up. It never made a sound and we ended up just leaving it there, freed from that sack. Pretty cruel of someone to do that but we knew others had been to the house but didn't know when.

You need a carpenter during the life of a house that can duplicate and create custom pieces to keep the period as well as a hardware boneyard for the trim. Renovating is difficult, time consuming and expensive if the house is in too much disrepair and so out of code it's dangerous. Hard to get insurance as it is, this would be almost impossible. No ins=no mortgage.. Have watched several people buy and try to restore and ultimately give up.

Why do people leave these homes and leave everything behind??? Why don't families come in and empty out the possessions? Or even the county? My guess, from the looks of this house, is that the residents were unexpectedly arrested and put in jail and that's why everything is left behind. Parents were probably too old to empty out the house and relatives probably either didn't have the keys or just didn't need anything in it, so it was all just abandoned.

The only thing I can think of is 1 . Someone that paid the bills died. 2. They were evicted 3. It’s extremely haunted and they just got out as quickly as possible. 4. Something horrible happened there and they didn’t want to stay there or to be reminded by the items in the house. 5. They won the lottery and left all the stuff behind and bought everything new 😂

Would be interesting if you researched land records to determine who lived in house(s) & when. Easily enough done. Feels like some of the stuff in this house may not have been belongings of ppl in photos.

The back part of the house looks like an add on to the original house. The is a lot of water damage in the very back of the house. I also wonder if the people who owned the house rented rooms out to individuals. Could have been young men who played sports. In the back part of the house the ceilings are much lower than what we saw in the front part of the house. In the original part of the had very nice wood ceilings.

What kills me the most - more than the home itself wasting away, are the family photos! These are very precious & should be w/the family! Hopefully, they could find their way back to them someday! 😢

Great video! I think several families were living here! That would explain all the sofas, chairs & king-sized beds…..also, each room seems to have a different vibe. Maybe multi-family decor….

Who's been paying the electric bill?!?! And how do these places get so messy?! That HAS to be from ransacking. I don't think the family was living in that clutter, all the dishes in the cabinets knocked over, etc. Just amazing. Can you take things out of these homes and salvage them? Or donate them? All those books and clothing? Do you find out who owns these properties before going in? In Oklahoma, as you may know, we have a sort of finders keepers law that let's you claim oroperty that is abandoned for a certain length of time.

It's good to see another one of your tours, I feel there hasn't been so many lately. I haven't seen one of those steering wheel locks for quite a few years. People don't seem to use them here in Australia anymore. I would love to know the life history of this beautiful home . Enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

Carter, those are not a bunch of different stereos, heehee. That is one stereo with separate components like the turntable, the tape deck and/or cd player, the amplifier, the equalizer, et cetera. That's how our stereos used to look back in the day and they were cool as hell! Stereos with the most stacks of components were a source of pride and bragging rights! I miss my old stereo and giant speakers!! Wayyyy better sound than the crap everyone uses today! 😊😊😊

At 7:04, that looks like a MCS stereo system. I have one just like it minus the speakers that a member of my family stole from me. I bought mine about 40 years ago. MCS stands for Modular Component System. The speakers were 200 watt and were almost the same size as the glass cabinet.

Awesome content ❤ 💯% Beautiful it's heart breaking to see it falling apart. They just left way too much stuff you know they had plenty of time to get more than that out of the home before it absolutely fell apart like it did it's strange how all that stuff was left behind. I just wished it could have been donated to somebody that needed it that could have used it very sad to see all that nice furniture and stuff just decaying away.
