My first Alaskan cruise is in July 2024. This video was wonderful and I’ve already sent it to my friend who I’m cruising with! thanks for all you share.
Thank you so much! That made my day! Hope you guys love Alaska as much as we do! If there was one more video I would recommend you watch before Alaska it would be this one… it has a lot of great info in it! m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KKTke0ULxtE.html
We are going on our first Alaskan cruise June 2024, I have to say this is by far one of the best videos I have see on Excursiones. We don’t have kids, and some focus just on what to do with them. You guys hit all the points with and without kids. I have to see I was freaking out when I saw the excursion prices from the cruise ship 😮. But wow you guys put me at ease. I can do a lot without having to spend so much more than we already have with the cruise. Great info. Thx!
In Juneau, I've found out that if you hike up to the top and spend $10 at the gift shop, you can take the cable car down for free, so if you're fit and frugal, this might be a good idea for you.
In Ketchikan, you can ride the city bus ($2 per person each way) to either Totem Bight State Park or Saxman Native Village ($5 per person). In Sitka, the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center has native birds of prey on display, educational talks for $15 per person.
If you have 4 people in Skagway. We rented The Green Jeep. It was fabulous. You drive up the road close to what the railroad does, can see the train most of the time. It plays a CD, telling you where you are, and the history. We drove up into Canada, stopped and saw sled dogs, actually saw a momma bear and cubs on side of road. It's gotten expensive, but was great. Able to stop when you wanted, then went shopping and dropped off jeep downtown.
We rented a car but the cd idea sounds great. Wonder if I can get something like it or a phone download to play in our car?? Leaving in 3 weeks. Repeating our Skagway rental. Where were the sled dogs? Was there a fee?
@@lisabarron2258 I can't remember exactly where, but remember it was on right side of road. It had to be easy to find, as we did not plan ahead of time, just saw it on the drive
You gotta rent a car in Skagway!!!! Drive the south Klondike highway up through Canada! Dont miss the gold rush cemetery and waterfall! Still left us plenty of time walk through town.
I am just starting to plan our first trip to Alaska! I found your channel through a search, Great videos. Very helpful and you are so easy to watch and listen to! Thank you!
Thank you for this video! We are planning a late trip on the Bliss this October. A little worried about it being that late in the season, but we're still looking forward to going. Expecting some of the shops to already be closed, but will most likely hike quite a bit. Hoping to get a few of these excursions in, but wont be real upset if we cant. Really just hoping the wrather isn't too cold, wet and foggy. We did splurge on the balcony, so we have extra warm clothing just in case. Keep up the great videos!
Great informative video on excursions. We are trying to decide if we book through our cruise line RC or on our own. Jotted it all down and you both gave some great ideas especially renting a car in Juneau. Our family likes to hike and Mendenhall sounds great! First cruise to Alaska in July so much appreciated all the tips.
You can book ahead of time or they do offer same day bookings. Would say the hardest is the train in Skagway as it can fill up prior to the cruise. Thanks so much!
Once cool excursion in Seattle was a bus tour from the ship with a few stops throughout the city and then it ended at the airport. Great wat to kill some time if you have a later flight and a ride to the airport!
@@sherylscali1309 sounds like that is with the cruise line. But if you want to do it on your own… with the port of Seattle you can have your bags delivered to the airport and explore on your own. (Fill out the paperwork on the ship before the last day & coast same as if you brought the suitcase with you)
There is a parking lot near the docks where we met the person we were renting from. He met us there and then we dropped him off at his house in town and on the way back we picked him up and he dropped us off at the ship dock. We booked prior to the cruise.
This is great info. Going on my 1st Alaska Cruise with the family in 3 weeks. Wanted to know what Rental company did you use in Sitka and Skagway? Thanks!
@@lindsayslivealittle Thanks for this tip, now I plan to rent on Turo at the port and then drive to Mendenhall Glacier. We have all day at Juneau port, where else do you recommend driving if a couple hours are available after the glacier?
Love the idea of renting a car in Juneau. Which car company did you use? Did they drop it off nearby the port? Appreciate any help possible, as we too, are going with my parents, who have very limited walking adventure :)
I am going to Alaska in September with a handicapped friend. He can walk but do to a stroke not particularly well. What excursions would you recommend?
Just discovered you 🙂We are looking for a cruise in July to Alaska first time. Another great trip we plan is Norway. I saw you did both. Any pros and cons to do one at first? We live in California.
We would suggest doing Norway as soon as possible as some of the key landmarks won’t be accessible. They passed a law requiring electric ships to visit those ports. But for ease of travel Alaska will be your easiest from California and actually offer options from California to Alaska. Push comes to shove Alaska will be there for you in the long term so Norway is the best option in our opinion.
@@davidthomson5183yep we mentioned that is where we have rented while in Alaska ports. Much cheaper than the tour companies offer for Jeeps. Completely agree if you rent from the excursion companies you will pay well over $100. But Turo is a great option.
Here is a link to purchase the city pass in advance. It is valid for 9 days. www.citypass.com/seattle?mv_source=rkg&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD6xuDWtx7dh4RmBSOFZ4-vXwehSj&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlIG2BhC4ARIsADBgpVScV8ZgYdwQu-sIzrQ9LzO2kVNtp36mcsz0ugw9kvPDc_rsDOgiD1gaAhZEEALw_wcB
There will be non-cruise sponsored tours/excursions right after you get off the ship. However, if you are looking to do a helicopter or plane tour would highly suggest booking that in advance as they sell out before the cruise and there are multiple ships in port at a time.
Most bear attacks happen to solo hikers. We were singing “Frozen” most of the time. Best to make noise so bears hear you coming and move on. You can always put a bell on your back pack as well. Always be aware of your surroundings. And just fyi if you see a moose keep your distance as well. They actually kill more people than bear. Thanks for watching! Emma & Jack
You can definitely hike up it. It would be a tough vertical hike but there is a restaurant at the top. As for the free ride down, we can’t speak to that specifically.
Not sure what you mean exactly. The luggage goes under the plane. If you are referring to the Seattle port taking luggage the night before… then they take it to the airport and it gets checked. You didn’t see it again until you land in your final destination. Thanks for watching.
Informative video content. Where did you rent the car? Can I get a mini van or large suv for 7 people? Pls provide me the list of places with rental car to cover in Juneau.
We rented our car through Turo. Additionally, the major car rental companies (Enterprise, Hertz, Avis) are all available in Juneau. Using Turo you rent directly from the owner of the car and they have tons of options.
@@lindsayslivealittle Awesome. Thanks for the info. Do they bring the car to the port? Or do we have to pickup from somewhere? Does the rent include the gas price? Or do we have to fill it up while returning?
@@kiranmarrapugas is not included and for pick up that is all dependent on the person you rent from. We were picked up at the port and dropped off at the end.
